Be wary of the college students with perfect grades.

re Sixclaws's post about college research faculty that have sexually harassed the students they were supposed to mentor.
I kinda like the nuclear option being proposed (a complaint being made known to grant providers) as long as the investigation's findings are made known as well.
Naturally stupid human interactions will catch up some but my perception is that sexual predators outnumber the stupid ones.
And we know that there is no financial necessity for the colleges to police their own (hello Catholic Church).

But ask yourself about the standard of evidence. Is it the same as in sexual assault accusations on campus? (No due process for the accused.)

Of course the standard of evidence will be the same as used in the kangaroo courts on campus.
But then again, when the university has a sizable financial stake, they're going to be conflicted. My employer charges a 52% overhead on grants, so say a 3 year, $500k grant is going to be worth $260K to the university. That's not a small thing.
But as Bret Maverick pointed out, the crooked game is the one that is easiest to win if you know how it is rigged. I knew a young woman who was in a doctoral program under an advisor who liked young women. And she totally used that to her advantage, and clawed all sorts of favors out of him.
Oh, and he was married. Later events suggests that she liked young women, too.

Chalupas "...are small, thick, boat-shaped fried masa topped only with salsa, cheese and shredded lettuce..." And chicken or whatever meat you have handy. And a little salsa on the side. Readily available all over South Central Texas. And ten kinds of good. A real standard at Mexican restaurants in Texas.

Ghanaian professors are calling for a statue of Mahatma Gandhi to be removed from their campus because they claim he was racist and considered Indians to be “infinitely superior” to black Africans.

Well, I had to wonder. Why was the statue there in the first place?
From the BBC:
http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-37430324
"Nelson Mandela said that the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi had helped to topple apartheid in South Africa. Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie I, was also an admirer. 'Mahatma Gandhi will always be remembered as long as free men and those who love freedom and justice live,' he said. Yet not all African leaders are inspired by the man known as the 'Father of India'."
And:
"The statue is a gift to the Ghanaian government from the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, unveiled when he visited Accra in June."
The article does not, however, explain why the president thought the present would be highly welcomed.
I'm not sure I understand why the statue shouldn't come down. Anyone who's studied Gandhi in detail knows he wasn't even necessarily opposed to violence or even war - but he certainly was when it came to, say, fighting the Nazis. (He encouraged the Jews to commit mass suicide and tried to appeal to Hitler's "conscience" by writing him a letter.)
Statues are highly conspicuous, take up valuable three-dimensional space, and need to be chosen with care. Being remotely grateful to Gandhi shouldn't automatically mean having to accept a statue of him on campus. Ordering the students to study his philosophies, as being ironically helpful to African liberation, should suffice.
And, from another article:
...Professor Opoku believes institutions like the University of Ghana should honour African heroes instead of iconic figures from elsewhere.
“However great Gandhi is; he may be great for the Indians, but for us we have our own heroes, men and women in African history that we don’t know about them. So we need our own heroes because they are the ones who can inspire us.”
He explained that “if you take foreign heroes you would always think that greatness is reserved for foreigners; but we have our own great people here whom we must revere and honour to become a source of inspiration for our young people.”...
