Do "they" even know that in Cuba the "free" groceries are a big bag of rice, some other basic staples, and the opportunity to NOT buy other stuff 'cause you know it's bad for you.
But oh, I bet "they" think they are special* and will be able to do things the "normal citizens" can not.
*special is the definition of their peer group that got shot/imprisoned/disappeared pretty soon after the Castro won.

I'm surprised Totten wasn't arrested by the secret police for going "outside the wire" in Havana.

Every advocate of central planning always — always — envisions himself as the central planner.
In their minds, they're not capable of evil, so even a dictatorship under their rule would be quite "benevolent" and "humane".
Of course, that goes back to the worst thing you can do to a socialist. It isn't making him/her/xer live under unbridled capitalism, it is making them live under socialism run by people not their friends.

Speaking of Cuba, it wasn't particularly good if you were black since the "white hispanic" Castro brothers are rather racist.
Whoops. Seems like it is it forbidden to use university funds to conduct electioneering.
The University of New Hampshire will not punish two individuals, dressed as Harambe and Richard Nixon, who counter-protested a walk-out over Donald Trump’s election, despite complaints from UNH professors. UNH’s Women’s Studies department, however, will undergo a full investigation.
Since the U.S. is a nation that finds it amusing/necessary to have a television show called "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?," here's an eighth-grade-level biology test in 10 questions.

Leadership.
Then on Christmas day, he would load his vehicle. At about 4 a.m., General Krulak would drive himself to every Marine guard post in the Washington-Annapolis-Baltimore area and deliver a small package of Christmas cookies to whatever Marines were pulling guard duty that day. He said that one year, he had gone down to Quantico as one of his stops to deliver Christmas cookies to the Marines on guard duty. He went to the command center and gave a package to the lance corporal who was on duty.
He asked, “Who’s the officer of the day?” The lance corporal said, “Sir, it’s Brigadier General Mattis.” And General Krulak said, “No, no, no. I know who General Mattis is. I mean, who’s the officer of the day today, Christmas day?” The lance corporal, feeling a little anxious, said, “Sir, it is Brigadier General Mattis.”
...
About that time, General Krulak said that General Mattis came in, in a duty uniform with a sword, and General Krulak said, “Jim, what are you doing here on Christmas day? Why do you have duty?” General Mattis told him that the young officer who was scheduled to have duty on Christmas day had a family, and General Mattis decided it was better for the young officer to spend Christmas Day with his family, and so he chose to have duty on Christmas Day.
For a moment there I was confusing it with the Somali Muslim attack at a Columbus, Ohio restaurant in February but of course I didn't confuse it with the Somali Muslim attack at a Minnesota mall in September.
Otherwise I'd probably be some sort of racist Islamophobe or something.
