BTW, it's small wonder they are so confident... eight years of extralegal arson by the racebaiter-in-chief and his thugs in the politicized alphabet agencies have left the Left convinced the powers-that-be have their backs. Until now, they've been correct about that.

Distraught, I cut a deal with my adviser that I would spend a month in the archives, examining government records and official correspondences to find out more. Sure enough, pirates were everywhere. But they were not who we thought they were. They were not anarchistic, antisocial maniacs. At least not in the seventeenth century. Like Moses Butterworth, many were welcome in colonial communities. They married local women, and bought land and livestock. Pirate James Brown even married the daughter of the governor of Pennsylvania and was appointed to the Pennsylvania House of Assembly.
Pirates, it seemed, could be civil, neighborly, and law-abiding. Why hadn’t this been noticed before? I chalk it up to specialization. By focusing so closely on their own areas of expertise, historians had overlooked how piracy permeated colonial life.

Ppen: If you do not have control of your borders, you do not have a nation. Period. We know good and damn well that enemies around the world try to insert operatives into the U.S. And since Mexico does not have control over its own borders, we have to control our border with them.
Once that is accomplished, then we can talk about immigration reform. I'm not adverse to immigration per se. And there is a lot of stuff in current immigration law that is just stupid, like per-country quotas. But we've got to get the process under control. Very true that Mexicans walking across isn't the only aspect to the problem; you yourself point out the number of visa over-stayers, which is itself disgraceful. But it's part of the problem. Ask anyone that lives in southern Texas. And part of the problem is that the international Left, which very much wants open borders, also tries mightily to discourage and even prohibit assimilation. The Left wants people to be micro-divided into ethnic and identity groups. Makes it that much harder for the people to mount opposition to the Left's tyrannical rule.
As for trade: I have been as much of a free trader as anyone here. One of the (few) things I appreciated about Bill Clinton was his commitment to free trade. But I assumed that "free trade" meant free exchange of goods and services between free people in free countries. I realize now that we've been economic chumps. You can't have free trade with a nation that has an un-free economy. China is abusing its own people to enrich its leaders and their cronies in the West, and they're laughing at us all the way to the bank. To Davos Man, moving jobs from Western nations to the Third World is a political strategy, to be undertaken regardless of any benefits to either producers or consumers. Its purpose is to open up more opportunities for graft, corruption, and political back-scratching. It is not really free trade, in any reasonable sense of the phrase. It is "managed" trade. Guess who manages.
The Left keeps complaining about economic opportunity. Yet it is the Left itself that keeps creating conditions that increase economic opportunity. The Left has been fighting a war, for almost two centuries now, to defeat its mortal enemy -- the Western middle class. Because that class is the one thing that stands between Davos Man and absolute power. The middle class is finally waking up to the fact that they are at war. Brexit and Trump have been the first, few, crude shots fired. There is a lot of rust to be knocked off. Trump is a blunt instrument. The next one will be sharper.

I'll chime in that a wall is pointless. I'm here in Houston. I have friends who swam the Rio Grande. But building a wall wouldn't have kept them out. Also, Ppen is right that illegal immigration has plummeted in the last decade.
The reality is that most illegal immigrants to the US are economic migrants. I.e. they came here for the jobs. The Democrats have done a wonderful job of killing off low wage jobs. Hence there is little reason for people to come here illegally. But making the US into a shitty country isn't a good solution to illegal immigration. Also, if Trump is successful at beating back the regulatory estate the US economy will boom and it will once again be very attractive to migrate illegally to the US. Either way the wall is just a vanity project.
Other Trump initiative probably will be effective. Cutting off federal aid to sanctuary cities and states can have a massive impact. Pushing forwards on job verification and cracking down on illegal jobs will have an impact. As will fighting identity theft. Certainly adding more agents who do check up on people who overstay their visas will have an effect too. But I don't know if that is a Trump initiative or not.

Brexit was the dumbest thing ever and all those pro-Brexit leaders knew it, hence why they looked they like shit after winning. Rember Boris Johnson looking like he just heard the worst news ever. Why didnt he take on the mantle? Cuz he didnt believe it was in the best interests of the country to leave and I agree.
The EU is going to punish the UK by forcing it to follow its regulations anyways and forcing it to pay fines to do so! Scotland is going to say bye bitch oil is too important we are going back to the EU. All of this to get Poles out. OH and it wasnt the "middle class" it was rural vs urban same as here.
The only great thing about this was how David Cameron singlehandledly fucked up all the careers of the pro-Brexit crowd. He gave them all a nice middle finger.
"If Boris Johnson looked downbeat yesterday, that is because he realises that he has lost.
Perhaps many Brexiters do not realise it yet, but they have actually lost, and it is all down to one man: David Cameron.
With one fell swoop yesterday at 9:15 am, Cameron effectively annulled the referendum result, and simultaneously destroyed the political careers of Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and leading Brexiters who cost him so much anguish, not to mention his premiership.
How?
Throughout the campaign, Cameron had repeatedly said that a vote for leave would lead to triggering Article 50 straight away. Whether implicitly or explicitly, the image was clear: he would be giving that notice under Article 50 the morning after a vote to leave. Whether that was scaremongering or not is a bit moot now but, in the midst of the sentimental nautical references of his speech yesterday, he quietly abandoned that position and handed the responsibility over to his successor.
And as the day wore on, the enormity of that step started to sink in: the markets, Sterling, Scotland, the Irish border, the Gibraltar border, the frontier at Calais, the need to continue compliance with all EU regulations for a free market, re-issuing passports, Brits abroad, EU citizens in Britain, the mountain of legistlation to be torn up and rewritten ... the list grew and grew.
The referendum result is not binding. It is advisory. Parliament is not bound to commit itself in that same direction.
The Conservative party election that Cameron triggered will now have one question looming over it: will you, if elected as party leader, trigger the notice under Article 50?
Who will want to have the responsibility of all those ramifications and consequences on his/her head and shoulders?
Boris Johnson knew this yesterday, when he emerged subdued from his home and was even more subdued at the press conference. He has been out-maneouvered and check-mated.
If he runs for leadership of the party, and then fails to follow through on triggering Article 50, then he is finished. If he does not run and effectively abandons the field, then he is finished. If he runs, wins and pulls the UK out of the EU, then it will all be over - Scotland will break away, there will be upheaval in Ireland, a recession ... broken trade agreements. Then he is also finished. Boris Johnson knows all of this. When he acts like the dumb blond it is just that: an act.
The Brexit leaders now have a result that they cannot use. For them, leadership of the Tory party has become a poison chalice.
When Boris Johnson said there was no need to trigger Article 50 straight away, what he really meant to say was "never". When Michael Gove went on and on about "informal negotiations" ... why? why not the formal ones straight away? ... he also meant not triggering the formal departure. They both know what a formal demarche would mean: an irreversible step that neither of them is prepared to take.
All that remains is for someone to have the guts to stand up and say that Brexit is unachievable in reality without an enormous amount of pain and destruction, that cannot be borne. And David Cameron has put the onus of making that statement on the heads of the people who led the Brexit campaign."

1. Determining what is necessary to build a wall is not "building a wall".
2. Determining what is necessary to build a wall is keeping a campaign promise. Very few expect a wall if it is not the THING to do, but it is refreshing to see a promise kept.
3. Cyclically we've had problems so a review of what policy changes are needed for ILLEGALS as well as LEGALS is refreshing as well.
4. Reducing AID to anyone is always on the table (unless you have been bought). If a city/country no longer meets the requirements to DESERVE aid then it should be on the table. Otherwise it is not AID.

"Brexit was the dumbest thing ever "
I suppose we'll find out after it happens in March 2019.

So bolstering the Constitution and the economy rates a "NO NO NO" from Ppen.
Good to know. I guess. Some just don't have any idea what a President of the Unitied States is supposed to do, I guess.
No wonder the self-important get so much traction running for office.

I never realized that moving a pawn was so important.

"Brexit was the dumbest thing ever . . ."
Oh, I'm so confused. I was told that George W. Bush was the dumbest thing ever. Is Brexit his nickname or something?

Not every TED talk is rational.
Here's one in which an overweight SJW complains that ballet dancers doing a PSA for public transit are "triggering" her. Fat shaming or jealousy? You decide!

Are we going to build a wall? Put it on our credit card? Ask a country we are bankrupting to pay for it? All to stop people that are flying in on tourists visas?
Great questions, I wonder why liberals never asked them of Obama, who spent more on the border wall than every president going back to Reagan combined.
I wonder why Californians who claim to hate the border wall never ask that the wall between them and Mexico come down.
As an Arizona resident I would love it if California border wall went down
