When Hurston tried to get Barracoon published in 1931, she couldn’t find a taker. There was concern among “black intellectuals and political leaders” that the book laid uncomfortably bare Africans’ involvement in the slave trade, according to novelist Alice Walker’s foreword to the book, which is finally being published in May. Walker is responsible for reintroducing the world to a forgotten Zora Neale Hurston, who’d died penniless and alone in 1960, in a 1975 Ms. magazine essay. As Walker writes, “Who would want to know, via a blow-by-blow account, how African chiefs deliberately set out to capture Africans from neighboring tribes, to provoke wars of conquest in order to capture for the slave trade. This is, make no mistake, a harrowing read.”
One publisher, Viking Press, did say it would be happy to accept the book, on the condition that Hurston rewrote it “in language rather than dialect.” She refused. Boas had impressed upon her the importance of meticulous transcription, and while her contemporaries — and authors of 19th-century slave narratives — believed “you had to strip away all the vernacular to prove black humanity,” says Salamishah Tillet, an English professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Hurston was of the exact opposite opinion.

I dont know Australia's numbers, but in the US while it is true that all full time men only earn 80% of what all full time men do, they only work 66% of the time
80/66=1.21
So for the same TIME worked, women in fact earn 20% more than men
Earlier this week Eric Lundgren was sentenced to 15 months in prison for selling what Microsoft claimed was “counterfeit software,” but which was in fact only recovery CDs loaded with data anyone can download for free. The company has now put up a blog post setting “the facts” straight, though it’s something of a limited set of those facts.
“We are sharing this information now and responding publicly because we believe both Microsoft’s role in the case and the facts themselves are being misrepresented,” the company wrote. But it carefully avoids the deliberate misconception about software that it promulgated in court.
That misconception, which vastly overstated Lundgren’s crime and led to the sentence he received, is simply to conflate software with a license to operate that software.
...I want to ask this: Do left-leaning feminists really want the ERA to be ratified? Or is this just political theater? The safe bet is that, for most of these supporters, it's probably the latter.
...
That 1996 initiative's core provision (which is now part of California's Constitution) stated, "The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting." It was, in part, a mini-ERA (although it covered only public employment, public education, and public contracting and like Title VII it had a bona fide qualification exception designed to make clear that such things as separate restrooms would remain permissible).
These left-leaning feminist organizations opposed it with a passion. Instead, they supported preferential treatment for women, particularly affirmative action preferences in state jobs and preferences for woman-owned businesses in public contracting.
Progressives confirmed they are totally passionate about listening to and supporting people of color, but added the caveat that anything they express can be dismissed if it is not in line with progressive values.
“Listen 👏 to 👏 people 👏 of 👏 color 👏!” one person wrote on Twitter, but appended the tweet with “(Except for Kanye West, who supports Trump. Don’t listen to him).”
I belive it, I know a guy who works in one of the AZ warehouses, way he tells it they all have the exact same lunch time, for several hundred of them to check out go to lunch, and make it back inside the security perimeter before lunch is up.
He says a lot of people dont bother because the line to exit the operations area can take over half the lunch break
