When "Diversity" Dreams Translate To Institutionalized Racism And Sexism
Suzanne Lucas gets to the heart of this at Inc. in an article on the Google walkout. One of their demands is that Google make "a commitment to end pay and opportunity inequity."
Lucas rightly notes:
Importantly, this is not about fairness in opportunity, even though they use the phrase "opportunity inequity" this is about fairness in the outcome. They want, specifically, "women of color at all levels of the organization." Sounds lovely, but there simply aren't as many women of color who want to do and are qualified for tech jobs as there are other people. When you demand women of color at every level, you're seriously lowering the possibilities. This demand, if met, would require promotions and hiring based on skin color and gender rather than merit. Not something a smart company wants to do. It's also illegal under federal law.

Thanks for sharing! And what I didn't say, but should have, is are they rejecting Asians as "people of color"? Because I bet they aren't considering that.
Asians make up 35 percent of Google's population. For a country that's less than 6 percent Asian it seems like Google has a lot of "people of color."

How is it this company can't do metrics, like the NFL, and disable criticism with performance stats?
People leave the NFL alone about "opportunity", because the outcome is documented.

AntiWhite hate speech - misfits and minorities using their power to stick it to Whitey.

This stems from a belief, common amongst many rank and file employees, that anyone could do a senior management job and that the only reason the people who are in those jobs are in those jobs is that they kissed the right ass; that the job is cushy and consists mostly of barking orders to the lower ranks.
As such, any inequality in the senior management ranks can only stem from institutionalized discrimination and not from any difficulty in finding qualified people from the grievance group.
Asians also make up a significant proportion of the population in the Bay Area - Google's home turf. San Francisco County is 33.3% Asian and 6.1% African. According to Wikipedia, "In the biggest 14 cities in the nation, San Francisco is near the bottom in the percentage of black residents."
According to the 2010 Census, the entire Bay Area is 23.6% Asian and 6.7% African. The US, as a whole, is 6.0% Asian and 12.4% African (2010 Census).
Because the national population is more African than Asian, SJWs don't see Asians getting ahead as a sign of diversity, but tend to focus on Africans not getting ahead as a sign of discrimination.

Well, that, and if people demanded the sort of "fairness" being yammered on about at Google, then the NFL would be about 13% black. As would the NBA.
We can't have that. Nosiree Bob!

They do not count Asians or Indians (from India) or Persians as minorities (except at voting time).
In a company like Google that must be the highest high tech to stay in business, mediocre talent simply will not do. If you hire mediocre you get Yahoo which has been sliding into oblivion for years. If they slip up (which they are starting to do with their search results for political stuff and their censorship) they can be gone in a heartbeat, even faster than Sears.

To be fair CC Sears has been dying for my entire lifetime. Vanishing faster than Sears isn't saying much.

Google is in a tough spot. The reason that Rubin has gotten such a generous 'severance' is to keep him from going to another company, but they can't really say that. Android is an open source operating system, he could easily start a competing version elsewhere.
The other issue driving this is that Google's hiring practices have resulted in a grad school culture in many offices.
They've always taken a misplaced pride in the fact that Google has Phd's working customer support, thinking it was an indication of how 'elite' their people are. But the reality is that they have a lot of over-educated people working menial jobs that they are dissatisfied with.
This is why campus politics have infected the company.

I believe this was exactly the point made by James Danmore (equal outcomes don't make sense because the numbers of women in tech are too low). Focus instead on equal opportunity, encourage more women to enter the field, provide early learning outreach to girls to expose them to STEM careers, etc.
But he got fired for that.

"Because the national population is more African than Asian, SJWs don't see Asians getting ahead as a sign of diversity, but tend to focus on Africans not getting ahead as a sign of discrimination."
And they buy into the hoax that every black person is "African".

Wait until Boeing employees start making demands as to who is designing the aircraft ...
Jay R at November 7, 2018 1:30 PM
Next, Boeing employees will be making demands about the color and sex of the people who design airplanes. Then we'll see who is really committed to "diversity"!
Jay R at November 7, 2018 1:33 PM
My sister works for Boeing Jay. They already are and she is one of them.

"Google is in a tough spot."
Probably because they're evil.
