From "Cracked":

What really caught my eye was the top-rated comment underneath, from Galway:
"And now I will do the kind of advice-giving that understandably annoys Seanbaby, but it is about something he wrote several paragraphs about. Just don't have your kid watch YouTube, or anything on an iPad. My kids are just a few years old, and sure, I had something playing on the TV sometimes when my kids were toddlers. But so many parents just stick a screen in front of their kids' faces for hours a day, and it shows in later years. That 'Hi, The Future! We raised a generation of children on unlimited hypnotic gibberish! Did … d-did it work out?' line was funny but all too true. My wife has been a kindergarten teacher for 13 years, and in the last six or so there are more and more students in the classes who have never held a crayon, who have no idea how to talk or play with other kids or sit and do something for five minutes, and in general can't deal with the outside world because they are used to staring at an iPad for several hours at a time."
(end)
And people wonder why people like Bill Maher say: "So, no, I don’t have kids. And you know what? I don’t intend to have any until people start making some I’d want my kids to play with. Until then, I’m just glad I own a lot of stock in Ritalin."

It would have been hilarious if there was a studded belt inside the box and the woman said to the brat that is to teach him a lesson:

Lenona, your quoted section is more about single motherhood than about viewing habits. For a simple comparison look at the cartoons and kids shows from decades ago. You can even buy them on amazon and watch them anew. And I had a friend who did just that. He was so excited after he made his order. He had all these great memories about all these great shows. And then he got his box of DVDs. The next day he looked at me and said "Damn Ben, I was retarded as a kid." Yes youtube's kids shows are painful and Daddy Finger is driving people insane but at the same time there is no question it is more educational than anything offered when I was a kid.
So what has changed between now and 30-40 years ago? Everyone had TVs back then. Schools happily wasted days on movies and other junk back then just like they do today.

Single parenthood had gone up dramatically. In 1960 73% of kids were on their first set of parents who were married. By 1980 it was down to 61%. 2014 and we are at 46%. The out of wedlock birth rate is also way up. In 1980 it was 20%. Today it is 40%.
If you've only got one parent she has to work. Her kids are raised by day care and after that public schools. She doesn't have time or energy to be a mom. That is just how life works.
