Sex Policing
If you can rent out your couch, why not your sex parts?
Sexworker Rights PSA: If a sexual act would NOT be illegal if no money had changed hands, then simply adding money to the exact same situation should not magically transform it into a crime.

Introducing money into the exchange changes the motivation of both parties, not to mention the nature of the relationship.
Take organ donation. Donating a kidney to save a person's life is one thing, selling it out of a desperation is another. Money introduces corruption and exploitation into the mix in a way that a voluntary exchange does not.

In theory, yes. In practice from what I can see legal prostitution correlates with high human trafficking and more black-market prostitution, including underage. From what I can see, the Nordic model seems to work the best.
Also, it opens the door for more sexual harassment in the workplace, including sexual favors as part of the job.

If you're referencing the European report, there are a few flaws with that. In it, a woman who moved, of her own volition, from a county in which prostitution was illegal to one in which it was legal in order to work as a prostitute was counted as trafficked.
However, I suspect, in general, that your surmise is correct; that legalizing prostitution invites trafficking and exploitation.

Sorry. It was Uthman, not Hassan, who had the Quran codified.

Sorry, wrong thread. Busy morning and I'm just now having my coffee.

You can't sell sex for money, unless someone is filming it. Why is that?
Steve Daniels at May 9, 2019 9:03 AM
Why is that?
Because THEN it is a regulated commercial endeavor.
I don’t get why this is so hard to understand. Just as with childcare, it’s only the State’s business if you are a commercial entity.
When you BECOME a commercial entity, the State has an interest.
Look at Asia Carrera’s FAQ and you will find that the State requires a business license and STD testing.
You don’t have to do either to hook up with that gnarly hottie at the bar.
Wanna make a living at it? Meet some requirements. Pro tip: there doesn’t have to be media in the camera. Pro tip #2: you might WANT to record your business to defend yourself later.

This dominatrix replied to the advocate you quoted with a plea to stop quoting George Carlin because he was a dead, White person. I told her she looked pretty White herself and added a link to a video of Eddie Murphy's "Kill the White People" gag.
I will probably be doxxed now, and my house will be set on fire, but it will probably be worth it anyhow.

The "trafficking" claim is almost always bogus. Desperation and drug use as motivations for prostitutes sure. If you are religious, it is immoral but for atheists, why the opposition? The Left wants all sorts of weird stuff to be accepted, why not prostitution? It used to be sort of legal all over the US up to WWII and even more recently. I think there is an ickiness factor plus women don't like the competition.
Consider how many women today go on dates where they get treated to an expensive dinner etc and then sleep with the guy. Is it not prostitution because they sell themselves cheap or eat all their earnings? Hard to convince me.

So as long as the monkey doesn't get paid, everything is OK? Good to know.

"Introducing money into the exchange changes the motivation of both parties, not to mention the nature of the relationship."
Then why does the law reward, rather than prosecute gold-diggers?
There's no shortage of sex for remuneration other than cash. An exchange of value is an economic transaction whether the medium of exchange is cash, celebrity, social rank, food/shelter, etc.
So, what you're saying that prostitution is OK as long as you're not honest about what's going on.

@Ken McE:
Well, in West Virgina, the monkey also has to weigh over 40 lb.
bw1 at May 10, 2019 5:13 AM
The law "rewards" gold-digging? Really?
Sometimes there's even sex just for the fun of it.
Not at all.
You know, you're awfully quick to associate any sexual liaison as prostitution under a different name. Do you regard your wife as a prostitute?
Perhaps she's the breadwinner and you're the prostitute.

In an episode of Barney Miller, Barney's ex-wife walks in and is waiting to see him when she encounters another woman in the outer office:
"Why are you here?"
"Prostitution."
"I could never sleep with a man for money."
"Okay. Why are you here?"
"To pick up a check."

Conan"
Wrong. Did repealing Prohibition result in Budweiser and Miller shooting it out in the streets of Milwaukee?
Criminalizing prostitution invites trafficking and exploitation, since the prostitutes cannot call the cops without going to jail themselves.
markm at May 10, 2019 8:47 PM
Right.
Because visiting a prostitute and drinking a beer are exactly the same.
And I didn’t say violence. I said trafficking and exploitation. You make the selling of women legal and the money's in having women to sell.

"The law "rewards" gold-digging? Really?"
Absent a prenup, yes, the default handling of divorce tends in that direction.
"You know, you're awfully quick to associate any sexual liaison as prostitution under a different name."
Not ANY, but there are plenty out there that are an exchange of value other than cash.
In the immediately following comment you answer yourself better than I have the time to.
"Because visiting a prostitute and drinking a beer are exactly the same."
In the world's most widely embraced moral system, yes they are.
Closer to home, both have the potential for broad negative externalities, depending on how they're conducted, but then that applies to almost anything.
