But that means they have to run on their voting record!
By constitutional design, the branch that is qualified to establish immigration policy and check any excesses in the implementation of that policy is Congress. See U.S. Const. Art. I, § 8, cl. 4. And, so far as we can tell from our modest perch in the Ninth Circuit, Congress is no place to be found in these debates. We have seen case after case come through our courts, serious and earnest efforts, even as they are controversial, to address the nation's immigration challenges. Yet we have seen little engagement and no actual legislation from Congress. It matters not to me as a judge whether Congress embraces or disapproves of the administration's actions, but it is time for a feckless Congress to come to the table and grapple with these issues. Don't leave the table and expect us to clean up.
The Chinese government has facilitated the mass transfer of Uyghur and other ethnic minority citizens from the far west region of Xinjiang to factories across the country. Under conditions that strongly suggest forced labour, Uyghurs are working in factories that are in the supply chains of at least 83 well-known global brands in the technology, clothing and automotive sectors, including Apple, BMW, Gap, Huawei, Nike, Samsung, Sony and Volkswagen.
Me: Trouble is, anyone who's struggled with high school unpopularity will tell you that "being yourself" is often what will KEEP you unpopular. Miss Manners points this out all the time. Travis Bickle (I know, fictional) was just "being himself" when he took his date to a porn movie and, IIRC, didn't even guess that it might be a bad idea. Maybe Travis didn't know any men who DIDN'T do that on dates, but that was his problem, not hers.
Or, as the wise man said: "Do NOT do unto others as you would have them do unto you; they may have different tastes."
... I wasn't talking refusing to conform to some high-school clique; I was talking about teens who are just plain unappealing in appearance and behavior to ADULTS as well as to their peers - and for the same reasons. Bad smells, bad language, lack of humility OR a severe lack of confidence, etc.
In other words, there's good conformity and there's bad conformity. Don't confuse them; even a five-year-old can understand the difference a lot of the time, such as the need not to allow one's classmates to bully someone.
Try will. And the results will be catastrophic for that population. A population unlikely to seek out medical treatment, and many of whom have existing health issues that make them very vulnerable to COVID-19. And then the local emergency responders will also be exposed.
In other words, there's good conformity and there's bad conformity. Don't confuse them; even a five-year-old can understand the difference a lot of the time, such as the need not to allow one's classmates to bully someone.
The nation's founders appeared to understand this principle:
"In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock." -- Thomas Jefferson.
Four teenagers were injured when an 18-year-old driver intentionally ran them over as they were walking on the sidewalk in Burlingame, California. Two of the victims suffered serious injuries and were taken to Stanford Hospital, while the other two teens were taken to a different hospital with less severe injuries.
The SUV driver, identified as Omeed Adibi, struck a fire hydrant after he mowed them down.
And these days it sometimes seems agencies change their statutory interpretations almost as often as elections change administrations. How, in all this, can ordinary citizens be expected to keep up—required not only to conform their conduct to the fairest reading of the law they might expect from a neutral judge, but forced to guess whether the statute will be declared ambiguous; to guess again whether the agency’s initial interpretation of the law will be declared “reasonable”; and to guess again whether a later and opposing agency interpretation will also be held “reasonable”? And why should courts, charged with the independent and neutral interpretation of the laws Congress has enacted, defer to such bureaucratic pirouetting?
More like that, please!

Galloway has convincingly argued that the era of the brand is ending through the power of Amazon and others to service different market segments, and to regulate information about and traffic between them.
In short, the opportunity to build a powerful, emotionally-appealing brand exists as long as the quality and ownership experience are not significantly worse than the rising industry-wide average.

Polonius gives advice to his son
This above all- to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
but that is to be tempered with
Give every man thine ear, but few thy voice;
Take each man's censure, but reserve thy judgment.
