Yes, the slogan "black is beautiful" has been around for 50 years, but the unspoken slogan "white women are more beautiful than black women" is pretty overwhelming, not to mention centuries older - on THIS continent and others.

Sure they can guilt you into verbal conformity. But so far, have no means to alter what you really think.

People generally prefer romantic partners from their own race. This is "bad". Note that preferring a partner from another race is also bad. White men who like asian women have "yellow-fever" which is bad. Black men who like white women are race traitors. There are plenty of black actors and musicians who are black that white people find attractive. This "white is the standard" is crap.
As to youth and beauty, there are strong biological reasons that men find young attractive women desirable and why women find confident successful men desirable. Railing against biology is simply an attempt to lower standards by unattractive (and noxious) people.

Tough spot for health care workers, cops, bus drivers, grocery store workers and everyone else -- no matter what color they are -- working for "essential businesses" where there's a lot of contact with other people. On one hand they still have a job and are getting paid but on the other, of course, they have that exposure and risk.

I can't stand the whining of well-off people -- again, no matter what color they are. As just one example, I saw a NY Times article last month about a woman in some posh Westchester County suburb who was whining because she could "only take walks in the yard" surrounding her mansion, a yard that looked as big as many small city parks.

Last time I paid any attention to such things, folks like Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, and Beyoncé were on those lists. In addition, I believe Iman achieved supermodel status before she married Bowie.

Some things, like youth and symmetry, are valued uniformly across cultures.

Then there's the vaguer one of people preferring features associated with higher status. Which features are associated with higher status varies across cultures (weight, skin color, etc). What doesn't vary, is valuing higher status.

Because of this massive economic dislocation and the cessation of any operations that can be put off because of the Corona, the Detroit hospitals are closing and laying off those black health care workers. Apparently people with money kept the wheels turning on the whole economy.

The field hospital at the Suburban Collection is only opening a quarter of the capacity they originally expected. A field hospital planned for Ann Arbor is being shelved.

Elective surgeries, which white golfers have the money to pay for, would keep more of those black health care workers on the job, except "that woman in Lansing" has decided she is planning an entire economy, badly, based on her anecdotal experience.

I thought the old saying was, "Tall, Dark, and Handsome" as the desired list for men.

But since the virus mainly kills elderly and those with pre existing health conditions. And less than 30,000 dead. Exactly how many black policemen has it killed? That is getting pretty specific.

Sounds to me that Dana is the racist here; if the thing she notices is the skin color of the person whining about not being able to go outside and the skin color of those who have to still work and, perhaps, die from this virus.

To fixate so on someone's skin color/race is NOT a characteristic I would want in an Attorney General.

Um, Joe, you do know, don't you, that until about 50 years ago, "dark," in literature, typically meant "dark-haired," right? Which is probably why the three-word expression isn't used as much by white women as it used to be in the days when both legal and social segregation were the rule - that is, back when no one thought that a white woman would even consider dating a distinctly dark-skinned man.

Example: All comic male superheroes are handsome, but only a few are blond, IIRC.

And even in the 21st century, in the British Isles, that still IS the default meaning of "dark." Usually.

Oh, and the counterpart is "blonde, blue-eyed, and petite."

Even nowadays, in these parts, a person with my coloring (dark brown hair, light olive skin) is called "noiraud". "Noir" meaning black.

I got curious and looked up those male superheroes. The only really famous ones were Aquaman, Captain America, and Thor. Well, OK, there was also the Human Torch, but you can't see his hair most of the time anyway!
