Do I Get Fries And A Unicorn With That?
A big problem with feminist-written policy is that it so often reveals feminists who wrote it to be screaming idiots who can't do basic math (as well as people who stand for UNEQUAL rights: demanding injustice to men as the path to justice for women).
At The Lily, the often earnestly silly WaPo section for those with vaginas, Frances Nguyen writes about Hawaii's "feminist economic recovery plan." "The state wants 'to build a system that is capable of delivering gender equality." Heh.
A universal basic income. Special emergency funds for marginalized groups, including undocumented immigrant women, domestic workers, women with disabilities and sex-trafficking survivors. Waived co-payments for covid-19 tests and treatment, including for incarcerated women. A 20 percent pro rata share of the covid-19 response funds the express recovery needs of the indigenous population. A $24.80/hour minimum wage for single mothers. Free, publicly-funded child care for all essential workers.None of these proposals have come from the federal government. These proposals instead come out of Hawaii, the first state to propose a what it's calling a "feminist economic recovery plan." Rather than restoring the economy to the old normal, the state is looking to seize the opportunity "to build a system that is capable of delivering gender equality."
The plan, produced by the state's Commission on the Status of Women, is designed for "deep cultural change" by explicitly incorporating the unique needs of indigenous and immigrant women, caregivers, elderly women, femme-identifying and non-binary people, incarcerated women, unsheltered women, domestic abuse and sex trafficking survivors, and women with disabilities.
"A $24.80/hour minimum wage for single mothers." Way to encourage intact families. What about, say, single widowed fathers? Is the answer: "Fuck you, daddies"? Appears to be.
Also, since businesses are struggling with zero customers and will soon have far fewer customers, will they thrive if they have to charge $22 for a cup off coffee to pay an employee's hourly wage?
Also, where will all these handouts come from? I know they have some exotic plants in Hawaii. Are money trees among them?
I love the detachment from reality. If it's "woke," it must be, and that's that!
(This is the reasoning of a demanding yet dim 8-year-old.)

If this were to pass and if I were a business owner, why would I ever hire a single mom when I could hire any other class of people for less money?

From the article:
Yet.
Would this absolve men of all alimony and child-support? I joke. Of course it wouldn't. And some women have insisted that divorce is not incentivized.
Which will encourage men to insist they identify as women or non-binary for the sake of these free government handouts. At least the kids on Halloween have to wear a costume and say "Trick or treat" to get free candy. Men won't even need the costume to get the goodies from the government.

Mike S: you would be required to have a certain level of single moms on your payroll.
Patrick: heh. As I sometimes claim, I'm a woman trapped in a man's body. But she's a lesbian, so it's all good.

You mean people that not only don't have a higher minimum wage, but people who can work overtime and don't have to leave in the middle of a workday to care for a sick child?
Why ever?

Waiving the Covid tests makes sense to me. It would help us study the pandemic and all that. Data is good, I think that would be a good investment.

Those Hawaiian taxpayer dollars are hard at work.

Wow, nearly $25 per hour would give women an incentive to become single mothers.
That's around $50K per year! Why even get training for a decent paying job or spend years climbing the company ladder when you can just get pregnant and get paid so much just for that.
Really not fair to everyone else.

Um, Isn't it illegal/ or at least frowned on for an employer to ask the prospective employee if they are single or have kids. This would require it.
Joe J at May 24, 2020 7:40 PM
I wonder if the SJWs advocating $24.80/hr minimum wage for single mothers also support unrestricted illegal immigration. They're really just pricing single mothers out of the labor market.

Perhaps we'll also recognize some new parameters for our future: The United States might be tempted to chart a path away from capitalism, one based on our fondest daydreams, or upon socialist idiocies. But China, our most entangled financial partner, is in no way obligated to play along. We see in 2020 that they're competing with us quite consciously; and whether their principles are Confucian, communist, or authoritarian, they're not inclined to be especially gracious or honest.
Consider this podcast with Sam Harris and Daniel Markovits. There's some remarkable stuff in there.
I've not read the Markovits book.
But listen to the podcast to get the lay of the land. And then read his recent NYT oped, which includes a few jaw-droppers:

I don't understand what Nicole is getting at here:
Waiving which Covid tests? How would that give you data?
Crid at May 24, 2020 9:19 PM
Waiving the fees for getting tested for Covid or for the antibodies. Testing more of the population, but not charging them for it.
NicoleK at May 24, 2020 9:54 PM
Ah. More "redistribution" hogwash.
If I produce wealth, and it is taken and given to someone who did not produce it, I have an incentive to produce less wealth, and the recipient has an incentive not to produce any wealth for themselves. Result? The lose-lose spiral into socialist misery.
As the influential feminist, Catherine McKinnon, has observed, feminism = communism. My observation? Feminism = stupidity.
