With trillions going this way and that, we might hope some comeuppance for profligate academe is at hand.
But as socialist impulses boil unabated during this lockdown, take a look at who's been getting educated.
And then consider who's been saddled with the debt.

None of the jobs you mention need to be done often. Let's not pretend it's comparable to daily housework.

I think you do find that the demands of parenthood often are evenly distributed when you get rid of one parent.

Even if the dog WAS attacking the deputy, why couldn't the deputy have fired a warning shot instead? It sounds as though the dog was smart enough to respond properly.
In the meantime, regarding the confusion some people still have as to how masks work, I found this, elsewhere:
Cozmik Cowboy:
"My wife read me a thing she saw online that explains the reasoning behind masks for all better than anything else I’ve heard:
" 'If everybody’s naked and a guy pees on your leg, you’re going to get wet. If you have pants on, some will get on you, but not all of it. If he has pants on, too, you’re fine.' "
Rcwhiting:
"This is really about a emerging new morality. Where it was cover your body and show your face, it will be cover the face and hands while you can bare the rest…. Snicker."

Lenona, In many states warning shots are illegal. Even in those where it is legal you are on shaky grounds. Even for police if you draw your weapon you should be prepared to use it to kill.
Ben at May 11, 2020 10:03 AM
And thanks, NicoleK. Keep it up.
Not to mention that, often, tasks like clearing gutters and lawns don't get done At All, since uncleared gutters and lawns do not immediately get in the way of anyone's comfort or health. Cleaning the interior, daily, is clearly more important to residents and guests alike. Or, if those monthly tasks DO get done, outsiders often get hired to do them, partly because many people consider unpaid work (mowing their own lawns) to be beneath them. So a husband just might hire a teen on the spur of the moment. Whereas obviously, a wife, normally, does not hire a (more expensive) housekeeper without discussing it with her husband first - and he just might say "no, it's a waste of money, and housework is good exercise anyway."
Lenona at May 11, 2020 10:22 AM
Because with every gunshot, there is a live bullet moving rapidly toward an eventual target.
When you fire a gun and miss, the bullet does not drop harmlessly to the ground. It keeps going until something stops it. If you're lucky, friction and gravity will stop it. If not, someone in the house next door might.

What I posted in 2012:
Reminds me of an Arlo and Janis comic strip (they're married and had a young son at the time) where it's Arlo's turn to cook, but, as is typical for him, IIRC, he simply orders take-out. Janis is very annoyed.
Arlo: "What's the difference? You don't have to do it!"
Janis: "It's the principle of the thing!"
To frugal types like myself, there's nothing laughable about Janis' line - after all, what she means is, "Think of all the money I save by cooking, even though I sometimes hate doing it. Where would we be if we BOTH always ordered take-out?"
Lenona at May 11, 2020 10:35 AM
Conan, I was thinking of firing the gun at the ground, near the dog. Of course, if there are flagstones everywhere, that would be a bad idea.
Lenona at May 11, 2020 10:37 AM
NicoleK and lenona seem to be on the side of "men don't do their share" and gutters etc are only a "sometimes" thing. I raised my kids and at times my wife stayed home. In order for that to happen I painted the house myself and was busy helping with dishes/laundry/trash till time for bed. Yard work can take half a day every week. I didn't watch TV for a decade. I had no complaints but in what sense could I have done more? There may be some husbands who veg out watching sports all weekend, but not the guys I know. There are also women who don't lift a finger and DO order takeout or let the kids eat cereal for dinner.
A survey I saw showed that women who had a more traditional family arrangement were much happier.

Buried rocks can cause a ricochet. Firing a gun without the intent to hit a specific something with the bullet is a bad idea.

All's well that ends well, I always say.
Gog_Magog_Carpet_Reclaimers at May 11, 2020 12:10 PM
Warning shots are a TV only thing for a good reason. Even celebratory shots into the air kill people who were no where near the gunshooter.
I still confused why people are talking like kids are still raised in a two parent family. Even back in 2014 it was only 46% of families on their first marriage, and falling. 15% in a remarriage and holding steady. 26% in a single parent and raising. Today it should be around 42% in a first marriage and 30% in a single parent family. By 2040 or sooner the plurality should be raised in a single parent family.
Whine all you like about lazy men. If you aren't happy with your marriage then get a divorce. It isn't difficult. As for your kids they probably aren't getting married. It isn't like this is some long term problem society needs to deal with.

Hollywood has the worst gun-handling habits - habits that any well-trained firearms instructor would advise his students to avoid.
Characters fire warning shots, shoot into the air, shoot at fleeing vehicles and criminals without regard to the people around them, and generally spray bullets all over the place - and that's the good guys.
Conan the Grammarian at May 11, 2020 1:02 PM
habits that any well-trained firearms instructor would advise his students to avoid
Unless you want a negligent discharge on your record. If you're very lucky, you put a hole in the ground. If you're not, you put a hole in yourself. If you're extremely unlucky, you put a hole in someone else.
I'm not a gun owner, but a thing that drives me nuts about TV shows is the lack of trigger discipline many show.
I R A Darth Aggie at May 11, 2020 2:39 PM
cc, no one's saying you didn't do your share - it sounds as though you did plenty.
And so do plenty of spouses, male and female.
But when single, constantly exhausted parents allow anyone over the age of three to lie around with video games when the kid could be playing at washing floors - or even washing dishes by standing at the sink in front of the parent, on a stool, the parent is just setting up a future scene of anger, fighting and misery very soon, when the parent DOES start to make demands.
In the same vein, Dr. Spock recommended that babies be allowed to eat with spoons around 18 months, even though it takes a lot of slow practice before the big messes stop. That's because 1) learning to use a spoon is more fun to a baby at that age, and 2) when an impatient parents keeps spoon-feeding until age two or older, the kid loses interest in feeding independence and balks big-time when the parent tries to demand the kid feed itself.
In other words, you don't want a spoiled kid who honestly believes that five minutes of work is all a kid should have to do per day - or a teen who believes that he/she is entitled to more hours of leisure time than an adult, just because teens don't get paid for schoolwork or housework. Or an adult child who holds the same spoiled attitude toward any type of roommate.

Another example: The only time a worker cheerfully does overtime work that someone else should be doing is when the latter worker pays the former worker for it, one way or another.

I think you mean unpaid overtime Lenona. Lots of people love getting time and a half. If someone else is responsible for giving them more of it they are usually grateful.

CC, you sound like a catch. Your spouse is a lucky duck!
I'm happy with the split in my marriage, but I don't have a full time job. Got too many friends who have to do the full time job AND all the housework stuff. They are very unhappy.
