• Neighboring UCLA students had a loud beer party tonight as I read this tweet, and see the preceding one from McArdle for a statistical perspective.
• Another statistical factoid.
The McArdle column itself has some candy:

• I got nuthin' against trans people, but I don't understand why everyone (including Biden) wants to describe their challenge as one of the most profound the civil rights considerations of our day, even as other hazards (alcohol, family dissolution) scorch so many more lives. Consider this. Why are so many, distant as they are from actual transsexuals and those with disturbed feelings about their gender, so eager to push them down a largely irreversible path?
• Here's are four interesting airplanes.

I have nothing against anyone, but I don't really feel we need intact, unchanged men with "a female soul" in the changing rooms, unadultered boys in female sports, or male rapists in female prisons.
This apparently makes me a far right conservative now.

Been a while since I'v been here. Here's my submission. I won't hold my breath concerning the GOP vis a vis subject.

That's wise. Generally speaking. But regarding your subject:
I will not risk open war.
Open war is upon you, whether you would risk it or not.
In the human psyche, to admit a thing is nearly the same a creating a thing.

"describe their challenge as one of the most profound the civil rights considerations of our day"
Win the young voters by diametrically opposing, in rhetoric if not fact, conservative-by-comparison parent-figures.

The most famous trans of all owns an Olympic gold medal, and at age 70 can probably still kick the ass of many younger people; I suggest that if you have a difficulty it is mental and related to a fundamental mistake that the world should care more about you.
Nope. Bring it, or not. That's what the world cares about.
Radwaste at June 20, 2020 12:16 PM
I can't make out what you're saying. What does an Olympic medal, being 70, or kicking the ass of many younger people have to with an idea that the world should care about someone?

Agreement in principle doesn't strengthen these links. These are guys who've been screeching 'Wake up, Sheeple! We're at WAR!!' since they were five.

Ok, thought it was obvious. My bad thinking about the decathlete's situation.
Being trans is not the problem. The difficulty such people have impressing the real world outside their compartmented need to be recognized is - just like everybody else. If they're bold enough to simply get on with life, and maybe realize it's not the most important thing on the planet to be idolized for being unhappy with their build code, there's a spot for them. Caitlyn Jenner damned sure isn't hiding and wasn't dependent on recognition for being trans prior to reality TV notice. Of course, your local doesn't have a hundred million in the bank to console him/her.
"And while 40 percent of victims had ties to nursing homes, 60 percent did not.
Incomplete. More than 95% of the public lives outside those homes.

OIC.
Well, there are still a few refinements that need to happen for the technology: At this point, what gets decoded might not provide the arousal viewers are anticipating.

Gotcha, agreed.
In the 80's I was working for an ABC affiliate when morning TV was a big deal. Jenner was the talent for one of those mundane auto-safety segments, the kind recorded in a real life location (A local park!) with the latest technology (A television *mini-cam*!). The moment required him to drive into the shot, stop the car, step out and read two or three lines to the camera. He drove in, stopped the car, cut the motor, opened the door to step out, but had forgotten to put it in park, so it started rolling... So he vigorously slammed the break, cranked the shifter, continued his exit and read the copy. And that was the take that they used.
Well, it was exactly the kind of bullshit television I myself was making in those days (for a lot less money), and it was easy to imagine how the field producer had to explain what had happened when the show runner saw the footage: Jenner was in a shitty mood, and didn't want to do it again.
The subtext being, This guy is in a hurry to be famous, and not interested in the details of doing it right… As if his mind's on something else.
Sailer or someone has noted that a disproportionate number of M-to-F'ers, particularly those making the transition late in life, had been known as especially arrogant men.
