Car seen...driving!

Unless you have Officer Mindreader on staff, you can't know what a person's intentions are.
I have "defaced" some road in my time, usually when realizing too late that I was supposed to turn.
PS Many have no idea that there's "meaning" in rainbow paint. https://t.co/jVC5N6YuXR

We might have thought the sciences were somewhat insulated from woke-ism, but we'd have been wrong, very wrong.
I was reading today that given his beliefs about race and IQ, it's a matter of time before Darwin is discredited.

• The thing about this video is that it's an app for your phone, so you'll never feel you're away from your friends.
• This video from Darth yesterday is an action-packed half hour of conspiracy thinking about Epstein. Barnes in particular seems savvy, giving clear notice when the ideas are fanciful and merely entertaining.
The discussion made me look up clips from The Russia house. It had been thirty years. Pfeiffer's accent is laughable. Even in late middle age with whistling dentures, Connery was fun to look at.

I'll try again. I thought the legal eagles on this blog would appreciate Viva Frei more, but I never got any response to this stuff in the past.
This is Viva Frei's take on Central Park Karen (aka Amy Cooper) who called the police on an African-American man (Christian Cooper, no relation to Amy) who asked her to put a leash on her dog.
Patrick at July 10, 2020 4:16 AM
Why do they choose to be metaphorically trampled underfoot? Don't they place the American flag on the ground when they want to denigrate it? Like BLM written on the streets, the symbolism seems a bit much - like there's a hook in their nose and they are happily led around by monied interests who want to capitalize on their anger to do something nefarious - e.g., to reinstate Chinese hegemony in US cultural institutions and continue hollowing out manufacturing.
El Verde Loco at July 10, 2020 5:55 AM
It is interesting Patrick. But I am just a bit burned out on such things. Right or wrong it doesn't look like Viva Frei's views will make a difference. Or most anything written online.
Over the last four years you can compare the Clinton investigation and the Trump investigation and come to some depressing conclusions. Hillary and many who work with her engaged in blatant illegal activity. Charges weren't even brought against her. On the flip side the FBI clearly perjured itself and put innocent people in jail for political reasons. No one has been disciplined much less charged even though the crime is well documented.
So for a politically charged event it doesn't look like how correct the legal opinion is matters. Hence Frei becomes irrelevant.
That is why you can find more and more cities talking about disentangling with the federal government. The sanctuary city movement lead the way and now people are talking about applying that principle in general. If the FBI or the IRS or the EPA want to enforce their rulings they may soon need to use their own officers as local police refuse to enforce or even respect federal decrees.

I generally try to avoid vlawblogs, but I broke down and tried Viva and found him to be on point, clear and precise. Similar to Hoeg Law, who also on youtube. Tho Hoeg tends to be more verbose in explanations. Lawsuits in the making:

If the department of Education has their own swat team, I don't think these guys are sweating a lack of force.

Gee, something painted on the road got tire marks on it. What were the odds that would happen?
I thought destruction of flags and symbols was free speech, or does that rule only apply when the symbol being defaced is the American flag?
Conan the Grammarian at July 10, 2020 7:25 AM
It's the Nullification Crisis all over again.
The Civil War was supposed to have settled the question of the supremacy of federal law over local law. Apparently, it did not.
And, just as the original nullification fight helped fuel the animosity and left in place the ambiguity about state's rights that led to the Civil War, this one is going to engender lasting ill will and some dangerous talk of secession.
Without the cooperation of local authorities? Good luck with that. What happens when that lack of cooperation becomes active resistance and obstruction?

Well, that's Canada, so they don't have free speech. On top of that, it's government speech. Locally, I see our BLM street painting at Gaines and Railroad Ave has an acceleration mark on it already. It was painted on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
Wonder if that will be investigated?? what about doing doughnuts???

IRA, yes they have force. But not enough to cover the entire US. Doing targeted raids is possible but things like prosecuting the war on drugs isn't possible without local police support. Yes a president can try to move in with the US military and occupy US cities. How willing the US military would be to doing that is very questionable. Doubly so since the president doing that would be a Democrat.
Conan, it isn't just the civil war that is similar here. "The Supreme Court has made its decision, now let them enforce it." ~Jackson.
Ben at July 10, 2020 10:32 AM
Apologies Conan, Jackson was part of the nullification crisis.

Ben, there's always the power of the purse. Do you remember how FedGov convinced the states to raise the drinking age to 21?
Oh, I know, they'll scream and holler, but let 'em. You want nullification? give them nullification good and hard. I don't believe for a moment that they actually love the 10th Amendment. It's good to see them acknowledge it exists.
Alternatively, arrest the governors and mayors as necessary. At least with deBlasio, NYPD will be curiously absent when the Feds show up.

Oh, and the Jackson quote is probably apocryphal:

Video of this galactic atrocity.
So it wasn't just paint on a street!… The crosswalk had been preciously "installed." I especially enjoyed this responding tweet:
Here's more news about sanctimonious painting on public thoroughfares... Streets... Roads...I mean, these are the surfaces of our planet which are SUPPOSED to be filthy. It couldn't be more obvious that these people are desperate to take offense at something. It's like etching a likeness of Jesus to the bottom of a toilet and then getting upset when someone has to take a shit.
These people are BEGGING to be taught where the boundaries in their lives should be. They ARE that naive. The ARE from fatherless homes, and desperately crave the attention and instruction they never received, but just old enough they can't ask for help un-ironically.

I agree the power of the purse is real IRA. But a lot of that has hit it's limit. We will see if they are going to tie education money to EPA support from the police or some other such scheme. And like I said the sanctuary city stuff has set a precedence. They howled and tried to get it declared illegal when Trump tried to tie funds to INS support. That same precedence can be applied other places. Now will people be inconsistent and try to insist one rule for things they like and another for things other people like? Sure. They already do. And that is a lot of the issue.

Roads are for driving on - not for making some sort of political statements.
charles at July 10, 2020 6:50 PM
Sixclaws, at least one writer suggested - almost exactly 50 years ago - that there was a good chance that when the ancient writers said that those who looked upon Medusa's face "turned to stone," they meant (originally, at least) that the beholders were SCARED stiff as stone.
And if some myths were exaggerated for the sake of excitement, others were toned down from their horrific origins. Edith Hamilton said that plenty of flower-myths were likely cover-ups of human sacrifices to make crops grow. (And given how much trouble she went to in explaining the REAL reasons Daphne fled from Apollo, I suspect that some unknown author before Ovid gave the story a more grim ending - namely, an "honor killing." Even before Apollo caught up with her.)
