1. Identify a respected institution.
2. kill it.
3. gut it.
4. wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.

Moar Bees: Don't you hate it when bee handlers are stone foxy?

Moderna, Pfizer, and BioNTech could have plenty of room to run.

The U.S. government secured major supply deals with leading vaccine makers, notably Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE). These companies made billions of dollars, ...
Moderna thinks that "new epidemic
waves are undoubtedly on the way."...
The bottom line is that booster shots and new vaccines targeting the variants will likely be needed. ...
Moderna's research appears to indicate that it's not a question of if but when booster shots will be required...
If the coronavirus continues to mutate and force the need for new variant-specific vaccines to keep the pandemic at bay, Moderna, Pfizer, and BioNTech could have plenty of room to run.

Those companies were tragically underpaid.
If they called up and asked, I would happily send each of them —and not just my beloved Moderna™ 💉—

Here's the sick part: This woman is BRAGGING—
Okay, we each make our choices: But this *is* a choice. For the rest of a lifetime, when this person complains about the cruel economics of food/transport/edu/healthcare/real estate/etc., it will be difficult to sympathize.Crid at June 2, 2021 9:45 AM

I say more power to 72-square-foot girl. She's figured out a way to neatly organize her necessities into a tiny space, she's learning to live without clutter and unnecessary items, and she found something in her budget. A decade from now, she might have a house in the suburbs with kids and two dogs, so now's the time to do what she's doing.
I lived in a basement closet in D.C. for a year. I now live in an 1800 sq-foot house in TX with attached garage (for just a little more per month than what paid for the basement closet), and the skills I developed back in the basement closet serve me to this day when it comes to organization, efficiency, budgeting and decluttering. It also has taught me to pack light for travel and camping. I sometimes think longingly on those days when my packrat husband brings home new items to stash in the cluttered garage and my in-laws call our house "a tiny little cottage."

So, remember how, last year (2020!) when everything was turning to poo nationally and internationally anyway, we also had to worry about the severe flooding that was threatening to collapse the Three Gorges Dam, which would have devastated the Chinese economy, and thus our own economy as well?
Well, Hello Summer 2021!

I liked both of those links regarding bees, Crid, but the intro to the first one was a bit misleading.
That is, you don't want a QUEEN bee in your car, since the others will follow. But whether it's a queen or not, one should never panic and cause an accident with the car, since a trapped bee's only interest is...getting out. (A trapped wasp is a different matter.) Bees only sting in self defense.
lenona at June 2, 2021 5:06 PM
The comment in the second one, that they don't make trouble when they don't yet have anything to defend, was a surprise.
Crid at June 2, 2021 5:14 PM
Btw, I find hives fascinating - and romantic. Maybe because people tend to think "rustic" when they see one, even a very modern one? Not to mention that bees are even smart enough to COUNT landmarks in their area! (I first heard that via Dave Barry, who referred to this 1995 study from Berlin.)
https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg14519672-900-busy-bees-have-a-gift-for-numbers/
lenona at June 2, 2021 5:14 PM
And here's Barry's 1996 column:

lenona at June 2, 2021 5:17 PM
Some people aren't bothered by bee stings, but I certainly am, so "rustic" will never be what comes to mind. Run Like the Wind! will be what comes to mind.
It's probably on the internet somewhere, but...
We're told that worker bees are genetically identical siblings, and thus have no particular worth as individuals. (Same for ants.)
Why then would any hive accept (or reject) a new queen, since she wasn't genetically related to any of them?

Ever known anyone who actually took the time to rage against Monty Python's "Every Sperm is Sacred," on the grounds that the title should be regarded as TRUE?
Ever assumed no one could top that?
Here goes...and it's hard to believe WHERE this was published!

"By this logic, shouldn't humans spend all their time mating in order to maximise the number of egg and sperm combinations?"
