Does The Democratic Party Need To Keep "White Supremacy!!!" Alive To Survive?
Interesting piece at Spiked. Martin Durkin writes:
'They're all bloody white!' It struck me as I was scanning raw footage of last summer's Black Lives Matter and Antifa protests. A heaving sea of zealous white college students. There was the occasional black person, enjoying a kind of celebrity status, though looking slightly awkward. Otherwise, it was WASP Central. If you smell something fishy about the 'anti-racism' of the left, you're not alone. A number of black American commentators think the left is using the spectre of racism cynically, for political gain. The left, they argue, needs racism. The left must promote the fear of racism, see racism where there is none, and call people racist who aren't.
Why? To avoid political oblivion. The problem dates back to the 1960s, when vast numbers of working-class Americans switched to voting Republican. Seventy per cent of those who elected Ronald Reagan had no college degree. More recently, there was Trump and his working-class 'deplorables'. The loss of the working class was embarrassing for the Democrats - and electorally devastating. It is a startling fact that in every single presidential election since 1964 most white Americans have voted Republican.
The Democrats are politically dead without the black vote. But what happens if, one morning, God forbid, a large number of 'black' Americans woke up and decided that they're not 'black' after all. Just Americans. It is a matter of survival, for the Democrats, that 'black' Americans must continue to see themselves as a distinct racial group, at odds with the rest of society - and that they look to the Democrats for salvation. The fact that America is obviously far, far less racist than it used to be, must therefore never be admitted.
...The spectre of racism serves many purposes for the Democrats. It diverts attention from the social chaos caused by welfare and the failure of government schools. It is used to intimidate and silence their opponents, to demonise working-class Americans who vote against them, and to justify more government interference in our lives. And it is used to keep black Americans in their little black box, to frighten and cajole them into voting Democrat. Without any of this, the Democrats would struggle ever to achieve power.
The tragic, and ugly racist thing about this so-called "anti-racism" industry is that it perpetuates the myth that black people are less: can't get ahead, need special infantilizing treatment, etc.
I have friends of all colors and they all have one thing in common: they are all pretty amazing people. Accomplished, intellectually exciting and creative, and people of character.
I can't think of anything more offensive -- and utterly wrong -- than telling them they're helpless and incapable because of the color of their skin.

Unfortunately I think it's part of their long term plan. Portland is one of the whitest cities in the US, but has some of the most constant riots. Why it and it's education system has been pure leftist for decades and we are seeing the result of a decade of indoctrination graduating into violent activism.
In middle America it hasn't fully taken root, most don't experience it till college, but it is starting to take root. With the pandemic and zoom classes at home parents finally wised up to what their kids were being indoctrinated with. Until then it was just rumors.
"I can't think of anything more offensive -- and utterly wrong -- than telling them they're helpless and incapable because of the color of their skin."
And also self fulfilling. I'm reminded of a story of a teacher giving an advanced test to two of her classes. one she told "I don't know why they bother it's way too advanced for you you'll never do well, why even try." "The other was told it's a little advanced but I expect you'll all do well on it. "
The one class barely tried the other did well. self fulfilling prophesy.

Yes the DNC needs the appearance of racism to keep the black vote. It also needs to not admit to real racism when it happens. Critical race theory is racism. Once you cut away all the nonsense and circular arguments you end up with the claim that the color of your skin determines who you are and how society should treat you. A pretty text book definition of racism. As CRT is wholly owned by the left wing it cannot admit to that.
Most examples of real racism in the US today are from democrats. Segregated colleges based on race? Democrats. Black only/white only water fountains? Democrats again. Critical race theory, once again democrats.

I often say that these people are going to regret raising white racial consciousness. There's no way it ends well.

Black only/white only water fountains?
The CRT evangelists only object to the language of such signs in those old photos. I think they would be OK if you change them to "white devils" and "oppressed POCs".

Don't discount the fact that Progressives tend to be genuinely racist. Frankly the most Progressive people I know are also the most bigoted when it comes to race, gender and social class. But they've either convinced themselves that their bigotry is morally enlightened or projected it onto everyone else - that's why they see 'white supremacy' everywhere BTW.
And FWIW I do differentiate Progressives from Democrats generally and other elements of the Left. Progressives are their own political caste in my opinion, they're basically America's version of genuine Fascism.

it perpetuates the myth that black people are less
Not exactly. The myths it perpetuates are (1)that racism is all that holds black people back, and (2)that all whites are guilty of it.

I just listened to Ben Domench's podcast from Monday. He interviewed Charles Murray, who essentially made the same point.
And, I am listening to the "Unsafe Space" podcast from Tuesday right now, which is probably the same one you refer to above.
(Expense reports are BORING; I either listen to pods or watch Bar Rescue or home renovation shows while I'm working on them.)

Remember the CHAZ? They just wanted fancier fountains for the black guys. And more rape I guess.

They certainly need to divert everyone’s attention from the disastrous Biden administration. Not sure it will work though.
