Morons Gotta Mor: Wet-Diapered Adult Babies Rant Against Working
Joanne Jacobs writes:
The anti-work ethic is being promoted on one of Reddit's fastest growing sites -- r/antiwork -- writes Anna Codrea-Rado on Vice. The subreddit describes itself as being "for those who want to end work, are curious about ending work, [and] want to get the most out of a work-free life."
..Some participants are communists or anarchists interested in anti-capitalism politics, writes Codrea-Rado. Others are "looking for advice on drawing boundaries, asking for more money, or gearing up for a career change." Old-timers, known as "Idlers," and new recruits don't get along.
Idlers "spend a lot of time discussing tactics workers can use to slack off, cheat, sabotage, and steal from their employers in an act of defiance," she writes. "Earlier this year, a user reminded the subreddit that April 15th is Steal Something From Work Day."
Predictably:
Young people who leave the workforce or put in minimum effort and steal office supplies may pay a high price, writes Allison Schrager in City Journal.A habit of "resisting 'hierarchical structures at work' -- that is, the indignity of having a boss tell you what to do" -- can lead to involuntary unemployment.
An alternative to being a thief -- of pay, if you're slacking, and of stuff from the supply closet? Hating your job all the way to honest work to become a successful entrepreneur.
Jacobs:
Working less or working differently can make a lot of sense -- if you can pay the bills and feed the kids. Not working at all? I did a series on welfare reform 20-odd years ago: Living on welfare is miserable. You're poor and you're powerless. The idea that we should be able to live without working is one of the "luxury beliefs" that Rob Henderson and Robert Pondiscio have written about. These are "ideas and opinions that confer status on the rich at very little cost, while taking a toll on the lower class."

Eh, this trope has been around forever, remember the film Office Space?

It’s not as simple as young people are lazy. At my last job I couldn’t give it my all because of the particularly bad trans and fuck white people propaganda. I had to quit and find a new one. In the past men would work to support their family, but now more and more young men are perpetually single since monogamy is dying. Also smart phones and the internet have made people lazier too.

The camel's nose is already way into the tent, as government already says what you must pay someone and that you will support them medically. The idiocy of "universal income" is not lost on those who would cause it to happen to buy votes.
Hi, Crid!

Hi Crid impersonator!
Ben at December 27, 2021 5:20 AM
That’s rich Ben. Coming from the guy who I strongly suspect is impersonating me. Jealous much?
Crid at December 27, 2021 6:02 AM
Second post isn’t Crid either. It’s someone who doesn’t understand that a writing style and world view are as easily identifiable as fingerprints.
Isab at December 27, 2021 7:40 AM
Are you sure Isab? The second one does feel more like something Crid would say. I suppose though that you have a more fine tuned sense for these things.

When I worked for a bank, August was "Steal Something from Work" month. Pens, pads, notebooks, and other supplies disappeared in large numbers with kids returning to school and parents seeking cheap school supplies.
I'm something of a stationery snob, so missing supplies in the office supply closet rarely bothered me. I brought most of my own from home. Universal things like Post-It notes, binder and paper clips, staples, etc. were in short supply then, too.

We'll see. 'snot possible to fake Crid for long. Even if you use "'snot" and "duzzenmadder".
Radwaste at December 27, 2021 8:29 AM
There have always been people who hated to work (remember hippies?). With the internet they can get together and pretend to be a movement. They don't realize they sound like children who don't want a bath. "do I have to?"
When you get old and haven't worked much and have no savings or 401k, it isn't so funny.

A habit of "resisting 'hierarchical structures at work' -- that is, the indignity of having a boss tell you what to do" -- can lead to involuntary unemployment.
"I don't like being told what to do" is a big red flag not only at work, but in life.
Kevin at December 27, 2021 11:01 AM
Damn straight Kevin. As they used to say in the Prussian Army: Those who seek to lead, must learn to obey.
Isab at December 27, 2021 11:36 AM
Also note the "I don't like being told what to do" crowd is strongly tied to the "if it isn't nailed down then steal it" crowd.
"Idlers "spend a lot of time discussing tactics workers can use to slack off, cheat, sabotage, and steal from their employers in an act of defiance," she writes. "Earlier this year, a user reminded the subreddit that April 15th is Steal Something From Work Day."" ~Jacobs
I don't remember thinking those were linked when I was in high school. Now that I've been working for a while it is pretty much a 1:1 correlation. Commies are thieves. Very petty thieves too. And they don't just steal at work.

Isab at December 27, 2021 11:36 AM
Not me. Probably Orion. But this is my last post on this subject.
Isab at December 27, 2021 12:06 PM
No work? Okay.
No food, no shelter, no transportation. Those go along with no work.
Ask the Pilgrims in their first year. They ran that experiment and nearly half of them died.

This is not me:
“Are you sure Isab? The second one does feel more like something Crid would say. I suppose though that you have a more fine tuned sense for these things.”
I suspect half of the above conversation is this imposter talking to himself. Could it BOTU? This seems like something he would do..
