Trendily Short On Gratitude For People Risking Their Lives To Protect Us
People who will thank those in the military who put themselves at risk clamp their mouths shut when it comes to cops.
They seem to forget that these are people for whom a bad day at work might mean never coming home again, but -- hey, "woke"-think and hating the police is in now, so they'll just rn with that.
Risking your life has to feel pretty bad when the public hates you -- not because of of anything you've done, but because some cops are bad apples.
I predict that this will deter good people from going into policing -- precisely the people we'd want to have...as will the apparently increased danger for those who are already policing.
Amanda Woods and Emily Crane write at the New York Post
The number of cops shot and killed in the line of duty across the United States this year has hit a new high, the National Fraternal Order of Police revealed Wednesday.Fifty-eight police officers had been murdered on the job as of Nov. 30 -- up from the 47 killed in all of 2020, according to the FOP's latest figures.
In all, 314 officers have been shot in the line of duty through the first 11 months of this year, more than the 312 shot in the line of duty all last year.
In addition, the number of ambush-style attacks on cops -- defined as attacks carried out without warning or giving officers the chance to defend themselves -- has spiked 126 percent compared to last year, FOP figures show.
In 95 ambush-style attacks recorded so far this year, the FOP said 119 officers have been shot, 28 of them fatally.

For those wondering how dangerous a job it is... the answer is pretty dangerous. Not as dangerous as trucker or garbage collector or fisherman, but still up there.
Apparently lots of the deaths are accidental traffic deaths.

After the Waukasha parade terrorist attack, and how the press continues to try to spin it as an "accident'. A portion of those 'Accidental' traffic deaths are probably deliberate murders, just with a different murder weapon.
With improvements to medicine, rapid communication (cell phones), medical care turns what would have been deaths a few year ago into just injuries today.

Long before the nationwide pandemic of cop bashing, Portland, Oregon was experiencing significant recruitment issues. They started to lower recruiting requirements. This will have decades long repercussions. At best we will see increasingly poor judgment by less capable police, which will cause a feedback loop.
I am also guessing that it will increasingly open the door to increased police corruption.
Frankly, I am coming to the view that we should eliminate police departments. 1. Police are unable or unwilling to protect the public. 2. If otherwise law abiding citizens take steps to protect themselves the full force of the criminal justice system will pursue them with extreme prejudice. (See Kyle Rittenhouse and the McCloskeys) 3. Without police at least I have a chance to defend my family and myself.
I have also noticed that police chiefs, almost always appointed, unsurprisingly tend to reflect the attitude and policies of their city politicians. Whereas Sheriffs, usually elected, tend to be a bit more receptive to the idea that their job is to protect the public, not the political movement de jure.

"1. Police are unable or unwilling to protect the public."
Apparently you are unaware (I hesitate to use the i-word, though it is best in this case for such a fundamental) of Warren v. DC, which established that police have absolutely no duty to protect your person. If it had not occurred to you that it is in fact impossible to protect you, because crimes do not even exist until after they are committed... I recommend further study.
I will never ask an officer to risk her life against a mob absent the backing of her office. We may pretend her oath of office puts her out there in all cases, but the overwhelmingly liberal governments have decided to feed their own citizens to mobs, and so I will not demand that she be first.
You might notice the appalling, evil sickness infecting your own neighbors, as they ignore the law repeatedly in order to fuel fantasies -- and demand a lynching. This is not so different from what you suggest later in your post, and so you should think about that, too.
Raised in shelter from every sort of adversity, a large number of people have aged without maturing. It will take a long time and many deaths to remind them that history has shown others that civil order is superior to immediate gunfire.

There are far too many people today, on both sides of the political aisle, who are anxiously awaiting the coming civil war; convinced of their side's moral superiority and deluded that their side will easily and quickly defeat the other side.
When the Civil War began, civilians from DC gathered on the hillside to watch the Union soldiers spank the rebels along the banks of a little creek known as Bull Run. The rebels easily trounced the ill-trained Union army and sent both the army and the civilians fleeing in panic.
With such an easy victory, the rebels deluded themselves into believing that they could, and would, easily defeat the morally and physically inferior Union.
Four years later, the fighting finally ended with 600,000 Americans dead, millions more wounded both physically and mentally, and a large swath of the country consigned to a future of poverty and ruin.
Some lessons have to be repeated.

Props to the Arizona cop who shot a wheelchair-bound man in the back nine times and handcuffed his corpse.
The danger of him slowly rolling away was too great to ignore.
