Today's Dumb Lefty Award
Goes to Noam Chomsky, who "seeks to use the Cuban missile crisis to explain the Iraq war, which is a little like using the first Moon landing to explain the dotcom boom." The quote is from a review, by The Guardian's Nick Cohen, of Chomsky's new book, Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance.

I'm not a big Chomsky fan, but I wasn't impressed by the book review, either. It was general boilerplate stuff that could've had Howard Zinn, David Cole, or any number of other names plugged into it. I'd bet money that the reviewer didn't even read the book.

i bet chomsky meant his claim about the cuban missle crisis leading to Iraq in the context of a domino effect, much like that James Burke tv
series, Connections, in which you see how a crop cultivated in ancient Egypt led to man walking on the moon.
