Since when has BO had an alluring effect? I can't imagine even prehistoric people thinking that stinkiness equals virility. I guess if everyone stank it wouldn't be so noticeable, but it still wouldn't be sexy.

Some of us are more keyed into smells than others. I'm no armpit queen, but If I'm dating someone, I like smell his body leaves on the pillow, the shower towel, etc.

Actually, we're probably not always conscious of BO that attracts us. But we're immunologically better mates with some people than others, and I think (and seem to recall reading something that says) our attraction/repellance to others smell relates to that.

hmm...I was just chatting with a friend last night about how it's so weird how men will smell women's underwear....like how animalistic is that? My friend, Stella Valente, made a really good joke about it, but you'd have to see her stand-up act to hear it.

Would you say this is all men, or just a subset? I'd guess small subset.
Amy Alkon at December 21, 2003 11:17 AM
well, i guess more men are probably into touching the panties in the drawer vs. smelling them..but i could be totally wrong
Tiffany Stone at December 21, 2003 2:28 PM
Speaking as a male, I'd have to vote "small subset." I rarely notice odors, unless he's someone who obviously doesn't shower or prefers to marinate himself with cologne rather than use it sparingly. The worst is the one who does both.

Unless your significant other (sexual partner) has an incontinence problem, there doesn't seem to be anything odd about liking the smell of their underwear. It's all part of their below-the-waist appeal.
I have a smell thing. In high school, a friend once observed that when she handed me a book to look at, the first thing I did was open it up and smell it. I don't understand this at all.
