The Asshole Of Evil
The pope warns of gay marriage being part of "the ideology of evil" and says it's insidiously threatening society. This is so sick, but so over-the-top, it's almost funny. Let's take a glance "the ideology of evil" -- two people, who happen to be of the same sex, who want to make the same lifelong, legal commitment to each other that two people of different sexes are able to do. The guy who bought my old Mercedes is gay. He bought it because his boyfriend needs their Scion to drive their adopted child to school. Do you see Satan in this picture? Or is it in some old man, head of the church that's spent, probably centuries, shuffling around pedophile priests? Perhaps old Pope-ie needs stronger glasses so he can take a better look in the mirror.
You know how everyone in the Catholic Church is worrying that the pope is becoming too sick to be in charge? Public statements like the one above are proof that their concerns are justified. The old man's brain is rotting in public. It's time he folded up the tent already, before it gets really embarrassing.

Apparantly the cardinal most likely to succeed the present pope is from Bavaria, and he makes this pope look life a hedonistic pinko hippy.
Cardinal Ratzinger has already denounced Buddhism as "spiritual auto-eroticism" and Hinduism as "morally cruel". My favorite of his unifying thoughts: "A true dialogue with other faiths should not be a journey into emptiness
but a search for the eternal truth revealed in Jesus."
Make way for der PanzerCardinale, as he is known at the Vatican.
eric at February 23, 2005 11:37 AM
I am amazed people actually think the pope has anything useful to contribute to the planet. If he is looking for the ideology of evil at the forefront are the catholic cardinals, priests, etc who were either themselves pedophiles or shuffled pedophiles around and protected them from prosecution.
Gay people are an easy target for a lot of stupid people and pope is about as dumb as they get!

"Make way for der PanzerCardinale, as he is known at the Vatican."
If only we were making way for the Pansy Cardinal!
Lena at February 23, 2005 12:18 PM
Eric, you are in rare form lately (der PanzerCardinale, etc, and more from other recent posts).
That comparison above reminds me of how Lena describes Moxie's (Moxie.nu) politics:
"She makes Cathy Seipp look like Joan Baez."

I have a vacation coming up, sorely needed! I go commune with the whales, walruses and dolphins next week.
PS- He really is known as "der Panzercardinale"- no joking!
eric at February 23, 2005 1:11 PM
This just in: The frail pope has been rushed back to Rome hospital. Obviously, God is punishing him for the stupid things he's been saying about homosexuals.

National Religious Leaders Reject Pope's Defamation of Same-Sex Couples
http://www.thetaskforce.org/media/release.cfm?releaseID=794
The National Religious Leadership Roundtable today rejected Pope John Paul II’s statement in his recently-published book calling equal civil marriage rights for same-sex couples "part of a new ideology of evil."
"We share with the rest of the world concerns for the Pope’s health in light of his recent illness, and pray for his strength and wholeness. But we cannot be silent when he questions the human dignity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people," said Bob Gibeling* on behalf of the National Religious Leadership Roundtable.

Lena:
Though I am not Catholic, Chrsitian, or anything really, I don't see the Pope as a force of evil. Nor Hitch, if you are there, Mother Theresa. Misguided? Out of date? Out of touch? In my opinion, yes. But not evil.
Now, to absolve the Catholic Church, an institution, of its sins, no. They have committees of capable minds, yet choose dogma over justice. They have at their grasp the ability to lead into the next century, but defer to the time of Galileo.
------------- and --------------------
It pisses me off when Christians pull Jesus/God into things like Tsunamis, but it took me about 6 hours before your "god is punishing him for the stupid things he's been saying about homosexuals" pissed me off. It's a slippery slope when god is on your side.
-------------- awwwww shit. ------------------
Mostly I just wish there was a local pub where people were as interesting as you all.
PS- Leeeeeeeeeennnnaaaaa- I see you still capitalize GOD!

Hi Eric --
The BC bud and wine sound great. I just had some rockin' Peanut M'n'Ms. Next, some decaf and a book by Chalmers Johnson. Life is good for us middle-aged transsexuals.
"it took me about 6 hours before your "god is punishing him for the stupid things he's been saying about homosexuals" pissed me off."
Three words, Eric: Sense. Of. Humor. Just because you're heterosexual doesn't mean you can't clown around a little bit. Fire up some more of that bud! Go frolic with a few more walruses (or whatever it is you do for fun up there).
I don't think I ever said the pope was evil. Don't you think the concept of "evil" is completely useless anyway? As far as I'm concerned, if something doesn't potentially respond to legislation, rehabilitation, or argumentation -- it doesn't exist. Conceptually, "evil" is an hermetically sealed black box. And boxes were meant to be torn open (especially the one between my legs).

For sense of humor, I suggest the film title Lena has been using to make me laugh all day:
Buttmen 3!

I know.... I just wanted to stir up the pot.
spread em.

I'm here bored, drunk, stoned, Just saw "13 Conversations" and deep into "Baraka". With a laptop... LYT???????
eric at February 24, 2005 9:44 PM
"bored, drunk, stoned" -- you are so friggin' well-rounded, Eric.
Buttmen 3 is a short story anthology, not a film. "The Crack of Don" is my favorite so far. "Jailhouse Rock(Hard)" is a close second.
Lena-doodle-doo at February 24, 2005 10:11 PM
i am indeed fucked up- erp- well rounded.
Chalmers and Buttmen? The Blowback is too easy.
:-(
eric at February 24, 2005 10:21 PM
Chalmers pisses off us drunk communistic romantic types. I watched REDS last night- I'm sorry.
A toast to Jack Reed and Louise Bryant!
eric at February 24, 2005 10:26 PM
Eric --
I tried Chalmers for about 5 minutes tonight, but the Buttmen were beckoning. I plunged in.

"Your bitterly paranoid Althusserian transsexual friend"
I have no idea what that means on so many levels, but sweet dreams, chum.
As in Out of Africa, "Time to find a pillow".

Althus -very cool story. Benevolent. fade to a Manet like blue and greeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnn.........
many believe that the emperor would supress the churches if he dared....
eric at February 24, 2005 11:03 PM
The soundtrack for Out of Africa includes Mozart's clarinet concerto in A. That's my "if I were stranded on a desert island and had only one song I could play" piece of music. It's got everything a girl's ear needs.

A Reuters headline this morning:
"Pope Breathing Unassisted, Advised Not to Speak"
Great advice! Perhaps they should sew his mouth shut to make sure that he doesn't!
PS: morning, Eric. hope you're feeling all right after last night's binge.
