We Hate Smart People
Via Reason Express:
"You want to talk about some of the stupid things Bush has done? Why restrict the best and the brightest people from coming into your country?"-- Jim Goodnight, CEO of software giant SAS, on restrictions on the number of high-tech visa applicants the U.S. will accept. The alternative is for the industry to grow operations in India and China instead.
"Jim Goodnight, CEO of software giant SAS"
Benefiter of H1B, the program to destroy the native high-tech workers. There is no shortage of IT workers. It's just that software giants and big business can pay the imports less. Hmmm. Not at all about "restricting", but about saving money.
"The alternative is for the industry to grow operations in India and China instead."
Straw. The alternative is to sustain it right here with our own people. Oh, yeah, that would crimp the golden parachutes.

Be nice to Mr Goodnight. I used his software in my dissertation work.

The problem is, after 30 years of school programs that don't put science as a high priority, we're lagging behind. That's what a viral biologist told me, and she's not the only one.

Thank you.....and Goodnight now!

Yes, SAS is reasonable software. Developed by U.S. IT. I will retain ill opinion of anyone who would hire outside U.S. workers to displace residents.
Yes, we're lagging (as in falling from where we were). No, we're not behind yet. Simply observe the scientific arena to observe that we still lead in cutting edge tech; nano, eco, aerospace, energy, pharmaceuticals, etc. Let our residents work and perhaps put the emphasis back on science instead of nurf physchology and sociology feel-good studies.
My degree is in biological sciences and I have 35 years telecommunications experience. I've seen firsthand the H1B at work.

Apparently, the real impediment to high-tech imported help is that they can't figure out how to wade the Rio Grande. We let everyone who can walk in stay. Just don't try to swim here.
