What You Don't Watch Won't Hurt Them
Once again, the irrational god believers are terrified that somebody, somewhere, might jerk off in a hotel room. No, I don't want to think too much about how often or how well they clean those bedspreads, but what's with these fundies who not only won't watch porn, but don't want to let anybody else watch it either? Here's an AP story about a coalition of 13 conservative groups trying to keep not only their own eyeballs off porn, but yours, too:
(They) took out full-page ads in some editions of USA Today earlier this month urging the Justice Department and FBI to investigate whether some of the pay-per-view movies widely available in hotels violate federal and state obscenity laws....The leader of the campaign against in-room porn is Phil Burress, a self-described former porn addict who heads the Cincinnati-based Citizens for Community Values.
Burress and his allies have had some success regionally, pressuring about 15 Ohio and Kentucky hotels to stop offering adult movies. But he says a nationwide pressure campaign would be difficult because nearly all the big hotel chains have similar policies — porn is available at some but not all of their affiliates.
Though unable to cite specific cases, Burress contended that the availability of in-room porn is making hotels more dangerous.
“As more and more of these (hardcore) titles become available, we’re going to have sexual abuse cases coming out of the hotels,” he said. “Hotels are just as dangerous as environments around strip joints and porn stores.”
Oh, please. I just returned a book to the library with pages of meta-analysis that says quite the opposite; for example, in one study, in countries where porn is available, crime stats went down commensurate with the increase in availability of pornography. Of course, if you believe in god without evidence, why should you quote statistics based on evidence? Your imagination should work just as well!
I don't think porn causes crime. People with sick minds cause crime. If someone wants to have sex let them find a willing partner and not some exploit anyone in the process.

Why are religious nuts so obsessed with sex? I have no interest in knowing about or controlling other people's sex lives, but that's all they seem to care about. Not very spiritual of them, is it?

When Ed Meese was Attorney General, he was directed to find a link between pornography and crime. He couldn't.
Part of the reason was that most enthusiasts of sexual activity don't find violence particularly attractive, but the real reason was that Playboy and its channel don't cause sexuality, deviant or otherwise. A classic case of post hoc, ergo propter hoc died a natural death when properly investigated.

I think religion is obsessed with sex partly as a control measure, partly because it is a transcendental experience, which puts it into the religious domain.
The control bit is this: if you are infested with sexual hangups from an early age, then when you become an adult you won't be able to think straight, and you'll be easier to control.
The transcendental bit isn't taken so seriously these days: sex is now too smutty to be god-like. But in days gone by it was different. Bodily fluids played a big part in Ancient Egyptian theology for example. Priestesses had to ritually masturbate the priests on a regular basis. I believe it's important in some modern day religions too, such as Satanism, but I don't know.
I honestly think that Muslims would be a lot less uptight if they didn't have such fierce sexual taboos. What are their young folk supposed to do with all that repressed energy? It's just going to explode somewhere.

I agree with Norman on all counts, especially the last bit about the Muslims. They really need to get laid. And another weird thing about that-why would they care about getting all those virgins after they're dead and no longer have a physical body? It's probably the same 70 virgins, as none of the guys have penises anymore.
And sex can be transcendental, if you have a really good orgasm (especially for women, who have been shown in scientific studies to experience a different brain-wave state during orgasm than men do)

for a lot of muslims, women are for having children, boys are for fun.
not a judgement, just an fyi.
there is a video out there on them thar innerwebs of two iraqi guys and a donkey. one to hold the donkey, one to hit it (yes, that way). taken by a stryker vehicle on the infrared camera. soundtrack provided by the bloodhound gang.

So for muslim men, violence has replaced sex? Is that what the donkey story illustrates? (like a religious parable!)
