Jesus Camp
Meet a lady looking to grow little Christian monsters. Pastor Becky Fischer runs the North Dakota bible camp shown in the new documentary, Jesus Camp, and sounds intent on creating suicidal little freaks for Jesus. In her words from the ABC piece at the YouTube link above:

This means war. I wanna see them as radically laying down their lives for the gospel as they are over in Pakistan, in Israel and Palestine and all those different places.

Awww, how sweet...just like ice cream comes in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, it seems primitive barbarians come a variety of religious flavors. In other words...

Suicide (or perhaps, homicide) in the name of primitive belief in god: It's not just for Muslims anymore!

Hi, Amy. I know first-hand that this sort of nonsense has been going on for at least the past 20 years (and I'm sure it's been a lot longer than that). My mother--because she had a bad experience with a public school when she was a teenager, poor dear (ahem)--sent me to a fucked-up christian school where we were encouraged to babble in "tongues," roll around on the floor in religious ecstasy, and play spot-the-demon with rock music cover artwork. It was a mind-raping on the level of a war crime, and I had no recourse short of taking to the streets and selling my body. But hope springs eternal...I'm an atheist now, and a personally and professionally successful one, at that. I lived this nightmare, and emerged on the other side, so all hope is not lost.

The Nazis had a similar movement about 65 years ago; it was called Hitler Youth. At least their "diety" was a real person! BTW, I wonder if Jesus Camp is located on tax free property with their income also tax free?

A very good point, Bill, since they sound more like a terrorist organization than a religious one.

We are the subjects of the Jesus Camp film. Please know that we are not about suicide. Laying our lives down for God does not mean anything like that. We are unapologetically radical though, as Jesus was... counter cultural to society and to the religious establishment. Our kids love what they do.
