What Bill O'Reilly Isn't Gonna Do
About the O.J. interview airing November 27 and 29:
So here's what I'm going to do as a citizen. I'm not going to watch the Simpson show or even look at the book. I'm not even going to look at it. If any company sponsors the TV program, I will not buy anything that company sells — ever.
But, wait, it turns out OJ is slated to appear on FOX...owned by Rupert Murdoch, same as FOX News is. Here's the Wikipedia page:
In 1996, Fox established the Fox News Channel, a 24-hour cable news station. Since its launch it has consistently eroded CNN's market share, and it now bills itself as "the most-watched cable news channel." This is due in part to recent ratings studies, released in the fourth quarter of 2004, showing that the network had nine of the top ten programs in the "Cable News" category.
So...when, exactly, do you think Mr. Morality is going to tell Rupert to take all his money and fuck off?
And here's a question for you...do you think listeners know the Rushes, Seans, and Bill O'Reillys of the world are unrepentant liars and distorters? That that's how they earn their living? That if they told the truth, they'd be poor slobs nobody watches instead of rich, famous slobs? Do viewers and listeners know, essentially, that these shows are, well..."for entertainment purposes only"? (For those who find the inciting of mob hatred entertaining.)
For those who want the truth, tempered with sarcasm, there's Keith Olbermann.
Rupert gets his money back at the same time all those people promising to leave the US if Mr. Bush was elected actually go. Hypocrisy is everywhere.
I can identify the incorrect elements of a radio or TV broadcast. I'm sure the public can't, but it is still important to get the issues into the public domain. I am disappointed that the felonious activity of police and the BATF gets no notice.
By the way, you can add "60 Minutes" and such to the entertainment category. They've actually been required to correct themselves on the air at least twice by the courts, because people think they are a "news" program.

Digg this morning linked to an Olbermann interview with Steven Yagman, the evil LA lawyer who's representing Tabatabainejad. Did we need more evidence that Olbermann's a self-righteous blowhard?

What's this? O'Reilly's a self-righteous hypocrite? Breaking news. Really. The most shocking thing since Boy George came out of the closet.
Speaking of shocking, I see Crid is offering his usual fare. Bloviated personal attacks on those that he disagrees with, without actually addressing the points they make.
Though I'm a tad disappointed in "self-righteous blowhard." Aside from the irony of that statement considering the source, the harangue is not as colorful as it usually is. I thought the insults he levelled against Maureen Dowd were much, much better. I also like the "petulant teenager" charge he levelled against the gay rights activist who attacked Mary Cheney for her rather passive stance on the threats to gay marriage.
But "self-righteous blowhard"? Crid get a thesaurus and come up with insults with a bit more zest. If that's the only thing you're going to offer this blog, you should at least try to be good at it.

I saw that interview. I didn't have a problem with it. Your problem with it?

And yet Fox news went to court and argued that lying to and misleading the public were not illeagal and was in fact their company's right when they were sued for terminating an employee who refused to lie on camera.

I think I could sit down and have a beer with O'Reilly, even though I disagree with most things he says. I would probably punch Glen Beck after his first sentence.

It's the money, not the principle, but they'll swear up and down on the air that it's just the opposite.
Amy Alkon at November 19, 2006 9:33 AM
Thank you Eric. Glen Beck wants world war III and is hell bent on trying to create it.

Why don't we ever talk about Nancy Grace? She is a fucking scream. That hair! She's one of the things I like about being stuck in hotel rooms in hideous American cities like Nashville or Philly. I catch up with her and old reruns of Law & Order.

"the insults he levelled against Maureen Dowd" Insulting Maureen Dowd is as hard as making teenagers depressed.
"Why don't we ever talk about Nancy Grace?" god, that power bitch thing is such a turn on. Take heed, Ms. Dowd. Less Valium, more megabitchery.

Bummer, guys. Fox backed out of the project. Looks like O'Reilly won't quite be in the predicament we'd hoped for.
