How To Terrorize Your Pets
The "Religion Of Peace" shows children how its wrong to be cruel to animals -- by swinging a kitty by its tail. (Should be required viewing for the P.C. nimrods who insist we be "tolerant" of all beliefs.)
via Breitbart.com
I don't get it. How is this any different than any other ignorant tribal culture involving animal abuse or suffering, whether it be Africans torturing animals for African Muti (cutting off body parts to make magical charms), Jews choking and whirling chickens about their head in Kaparot (some weird stone age thing about transferring guilt to the chicken ... go figure), or Koreans torturing dogs to death (if they die in agony it allegedly makes their meat tastier).
Frankly I don't have much use for Africans, Jews, Muslims or Koreans for their pre-rational, pre-modern tribal barbarities (among other things)... although I figure enlightened Jews, Muslims, Africans and Koreans would consider me bigoted.
Do you?
Or is it only Islam that we should sneer at?
Big Bill at August 16, 2007 5:48 AM
That is probably the most FUBAR anti-cruelty campaign I have ever seen. I always thought that part of the world was primitive, this definatly confirms it, at least with respect those in power. I'm all for religious tolerance, until that religion gives me a reason not to. This looks more like a big fuck you to us in the states than to promote humane treatment of animals. Unless the shrinks who do the youth programing have been using heavy pharmaceuticals when they came up with this.
This really does nothing to change my view of muslims. As far as the whole middle east, I knew they were primitive savages long before I saw this. Not just Palestine but the whole freaking region. That is not to say the all of the locals are savages nor that we don't have the same type of feral stupidity here.
I have trouble believing that the PC nimrods (or anyone in the civilized world)actually believe in tolerating All beliefs. I'd like to know what the haloed champions of tolerance feel about some of the more primitive rituals in Africa.
vlad at August 16, 2007 5:49 AM
Um, I don't think the mainline jewish sects do this. I doubt most Koreans in this country torture dogs for the simple fact that getting dog is really freaking expensive, oh and illegal. As far as African Muti, they tend to use mainly herbs and roots and the most powerful charms are not made from animals but come from a more sinister place.
I feel we should sneer quite blissfully at all primitives. This includes red neck inbreeds in this country as well.

Boys - the video wasn't showing the torture of animals for the sheer fun of it. It was a (BAD) attempt to demonstrate undesirable behavior. At the end the animal abusing bumble bee-man was "tsk tsk'ed" by some chick (I didn't have sound but doubt it matters b/c it was subtitled anyway). The bee promised not to do it again.
The primitive thing in the video is the LACK of understanding of child psychology. Children need ramifications for bad behavior in order to develop an understanding of right and wrong. A mere "oh don't do that" isn't punishment - kids won't "get it" just b/c you "say so." They need to feel the effects of behavior. In my house growing up that meant our video games got taken away, then going-out privileges, etc.
While the intrinsic violent nature of the video bothers me (he didn't really hurt the cat but still) the bee should have suffered more. Maybe he should have thrown rocks at the lions from INSIDE the cage. Followed by a painful dismemberment. (Though I realize that only demonstrates that violent behavior should beget violent reaction - "throw rocks at me? I'll EAT YOU!")
Gretchen at August 16, 2007 6:09 AM
I'm not usually into wanting to see people get mauled, but man was I hoping that the lions would break out of that cage and maul the crap out of the guy in the bee costume.
This was the worst "teaching a lesson" sketch ever. EVER.
Shinobi at August 16, 2007 6:38 AM
... I just thought of this. I wonder if the reason they couldn't explain why it is bad to be cruel to animals is that the creators of the show don't really understand why it is bad.
Shinobi at August 16, 2007 6:39 AM
Worst "don't be cruel to animals" sketch ever. Watching 15 min of Animal Cops on Animal Planet would be more effective.

Much ado about nothing. A few months ago there was a video our our guys in Iraq shooting the legs ofo a dog 1 at a time and laughing like hell... don't expect Disney from the frontlines.
eric at August 16, 2007 8:43 AM
Can we expect anything else from Hamas?
Toubrouk at August 16, 2007 8:51 AM
While I do not agree with what the soldiers did here is the reason the shot the dog. http://video.google.com/videoplay?

Some of it really sucks and yes they should have rapidly and humanly put the animal down. The Russians used these tactics against Germany. It sucks royally and don't be surprised if these guys got in serious trouble for it (mainly because you can Id them).

Before dusk I'll find the courage to follow that link.
Crid at August 16, 2007 9:27 AM
That wasn't the video I was talking about Vlad/Crid. It may actually be the same dog a few minutes later. The video I saw a while back was a sniper intentionally shooting the legs off a dog, one at a time...
Anyone out there know a good book regarding the psychological effects of this type of war? I don't think you could compare the experiences of a child in Berlin 1944 with Bagdad 2007.

This video would have the opposite affect on children than they claim is their intent. I agree with Shinobi; I would have liked to see the lion get out.
Vlad, your link doesn't seem to work.
William at August 16, 2007 10:13 AM
You have to cut and paste both lines into a browser. I had to add a carriage return in the middle or my posts get blocked/lost. It's the enemy using dogs as IDEs. I couldn't find the sniper video. However I don't think it's the stress that causes people to do shit like that. You either do that or you don't, the stress only brings out whats already there. If the guy is a brutal ass hole then he's a brutal ass hole.

I will not watch the video, but will go home and give my little pug Holly some love.

That, and a few glasses of red wine.

In personal pet news, if anybody ever needs animal eye care, I recommend Dr. da Silva in the SF Valley, off Winnetka. Great. And Lucy is fine. Phew!
(My vet recommended the Jules Stein Eye Institute, but I go to a Kaiser opthamologist -- cost, $25 -- my dog is NOT going to Jules Stein!)

My pet gerbil, "Rocky" died last night. His cagemate "Digger" is very sad. What shall I do?
losergrrl at August 16, 2007 6:56 PM
Flush twice.
I'm sorry. Couldn't resist. My condolences. I had pet rats growing up and I loved them.
PS- Rebecca- I like your website...

Please, no answers mentioning Richard Gere.

Thanks, Eric!
On a mildly related note, a good friend of mine had to evacuate her home yesterday because of an approaching forest fire. She stayed with me last night--her and her dog and two cats. I haven't been a pet owner in a few years (my last cat, Lucy, died at the grand old age of 19), and in that time I forgot how much attention some cats and dogs require, particularly if they're owned by a single female in her late 30s who really, really wants children.
Rebecca at August 17, 2007 5:51 PM
Even expensive pets are cheaper and easier than children. I've said it before: think about how great it would be if children would fit in your handbag and if you could just tie them up to a parking meter while you're in a restaurant.
Amy Alkon at August 17, 2007 6:13 PM
Boy oh boy, I've seen more than a few children in restaurants and stores behaving so badly I wish it was legal to tie them to the parking meter outside.
This is why I really appreciate companies in the U.S. like Petsmart who encourage the presence of well-behaved pets. It's really charming to see pet owners and their beloved pets shopping together. Meanwhile, three doors down in the big box store shopping plaza, some three-year-old is throwing a store-wide temper tantrum in Target because Mommy won't buy him some candy.
