Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
My friend Brian Linse has a new film out, "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead," and it's great. A film for grownups. That's so rare these days, except when you go see something with subtitles. It was direct by Sidney Lumet, and stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, and Albert Finney. And it's probably the best performance I've seen Marisa Tomei give. P.S. She has a hot set of headlights. The trailer is here.
Other movies we've seen recently: The director's cut of Blade Runner, also fantastic, especially without Harrison Ford being forced to slam the audience with a voiceover throughout (it's been removed). And Human Nature, which I was surprised to have missed, since I'll see just about anything Charlie Kaufman writes. Turns out it came out September 12, 2001. Oh.
Marissa Tormei was legendarilly sexy in The Perez Family...

Never saw it, but she's one of those actresses I think gets sexier as she ages. Helen Mirren is another.

She does give a great performance. And I don't like it doggie style so you can trust my critical eye on this one.

I saw the BladeRunner re-release at the Landmark a few weeks ago.
It's not a fantastic sci-fi movie, it's a fantastic MOVIE.
Sci-fi with with subtle story elements or concepts...a sadly absent thing ever since the Michel Bay's of the world crawled out from under their rocks.

There is only one Michael Bay in the world. One Michael Bay with many faces.

We saw it there, too, RedP. Not sure if it's still there, was limited release, but if it is, recommend that over ordering the DVD!

TMI, but thanks nevertheless!

Oh, did I actually say that out loud? I hate it when that happens.

Although I am a little concerned that that heart monitor thing keeps showing up in Sidney Lumet's movies (even though that has to be the coolest fucking product placement for Levis ever) -- anybody check to see if any of his kith or kin have mysteriously coded blue lately?

"Before The Devil Knows You're Dead"
Heh. That used to be a part of a toast I would give on St. Pat's day, "May we both be in heaven half an hour before the Devil knows [we're] dead." o_O
