Things To Be Thankful For
What are you thankful for? Being American in 2007, I live what could most simply be described as a charmed life, especially as compared to women of all other times and in all other places. But, getting down to the specifics, I'm especially thankful that I'm not a dog, an infant, or a woman living in Saudi Arabia (all of which get about the same level of rights). Via CNN:
Under law in Saudi Arabia, women are subject to numerous restrictions, including a strict dress code, a prohibition against driving and a requirement that they get a man's permission to travel or have surgery. Women are also not allowed to testify in court unless it is about a private matter that was not observed by a man, and they are not allowed to vote.
Also from the CNN link, about that woman who's getting 200 lashes and six months in prison after being raped -- increased from 90 lashes because she spoke to the media about her case:
The man and woman were attacked after they met in Qatif on the kingdom's Persian Gulf coast, so she could retrieve an old photograph of herself from him, according to al-Lahim. Citing phone records from the police investigation, al-Lahim said the man was trying to blackmail his client. He noted the photo she was trying to retrieve was harmless and did not show his client in any compromising position.
What else is okay under Islam? "Pleasure from a little girl" -- two, three, or four. "Sexual pleasure from an infant."
Sick fucks. A pity they don't blow themselves up first.
(See the note here, next to the video for the references.)
Oh yeah...and did I mention how much fun it is to be gay or lesbian and living in a Muslim society?
Amen, Amy! My daily mantra is: "I live an enchanted life and am abundantly blessed." And it's the absolute truth.
(I just took 2 pumpkin pies and a cherry pie out of the oven; in about 1/2 an hour I have to go to the high school to pick up daughter #1 from the football game, and when I get back, I'll be making my stuffed mushrooms (with bacon and crabmeat stuffing), and then gathering up the pies, mushrooms, and a nice Oregon pinot noir to go to my mom's for Thanksgiving dinner. BF is in his tree stand until noon (we've already got the one turkey, but he's looking to get another), and we'll have dinner around 4 at Mom's, with my brothers and their families. Full house today. We are truly thankful that we can all be together again this year.)
I wish you and Gregg and everyone else who posts here a wonderful holiday, and many blessings to all of your families. o_O

Thanks, Flynne. Same to you. For all the complaining people do about this country, and sure, we do have problems, I can't think of a country that offers more opportunity or a better life.

Mousse pie, real birds (as apposed to the tofurky we had last year) and all the sides you could want. Momma's doing baked tofu. We are definitely grateful to do thanksgiving as a family this year, looking forward to another mouth next year.
Happy thanksgiving to y'all.
Flynne - Are you an Oregonian? As of almost three years ago, we are. Unfortunately, this means no extended family here, but we had a great speakerphone conversation with everyone an hour ago...

Tofurkey?! Watch that those children don't end up with breasts before they're supposed to!
Gregg wanted to make me pork chops (I hate Turkey -- a dry, tough old bird), but we're having kebabs with my friends Rebecca and Marie.

Remarkably, it's actually really tasty. Especially the stuffing.
I rather hope that neither of my boys end up with breasts. I mean, I am supportive of anything they do and will continue to be. But trans is a tough life and I hope it can be avoided. Time will tell...

No, DuWayne, I'm on the East Coast. I just heard that a pinot noir from Oregon was really good with turkey, so I thought I'd try it. I brought 2 bottles to Mom's, and there's none left, so I guess it went over really well!
Mom cooked a 24-lb. bird this year, it was excellent, it was so moist the meat just fell off the bone! o_O
