Whoring 101, By Mitt Romney
Why Romney won Michigan, by Byron York, on NRO. (He promised them our money, of course!):
When rival John McCain said — probably correctly — that some of the state’s lost automotive jobs wouldn’t come back, Romney answered, “Baloney.” He also promised the auto industry $20 billion in federal investment, along with relief from mileage standards and burdensome employee health-care costs. Looked at from the voter’s perspective, one candidate, McCain, offered Michiganders little understanding — the Michigan equivalent of McCain’s opposition to ethanol subsidies in Iowa — while the other, Romney, promised to throw them a life preserver. The guy with the life preserver won.
On the liberal/conservative divide, all the Democrats and 2/3 of the Republicans are liberal, in my opinion. I guess Republicans get to celebrate diversity.

For 25 years the American tax-paying public has been forced to perform fiscal CPR on the limp body of the automotive industry. After 25 years, either:
1) The body jumps up, thanks us, and walks briskly away,
Or
2) We pronounce the body dead, call the meat-wagon, and walk away, shaking our head sadly.
25 YEARS!! One whole generation. The Japanese kicked our asses. I can live with that. Cripes, the Japanese are probably building as many cars in the US as Detroit does.

Republicans are basically Democrats without the reputation for handouts (which they give with abandon, all the while preaching small government).

Typical politics. People go for the person who answers the question best "What can you give to me"?
The is why farmers who should be considered the most conservative, will be the ones that vote support the politico/party that can give them the most. While still feeling like you are not copping out.

Too true. I'm was a lifelong Republican, and then we achieved a Republican majority in Congress. They spent other people's money like drunken Democrats in financial whorehouse,
It took decades, but I get it now: Republicans really are just big government moralists.

Mitt Romney was able to tap his bailed-out banker buddies on Wall Street to the tune of 10 million dollars in one day.
