So cool. Have you seen where Obama wants the Clintons to release their tax returns, due to her "loaning" $5,000,000 of her own money to her
campaign? I thought all this time she had a huge war chest of money raised by her campaign!! McCain and Hilary are very much alike to me, in that either will do anything to get in office. At least Obama is hopeful. And he's so dang polite...gotta love him. Also interesting is his parents: mother was atheist; father muslim. Hmmmm? I think those factors alone would help him in the white house.

Here's a question -- if you're an Obama fan, why? Is it just that he's Not Hillary, or is there something more?
The Republicans are pushing McCain for the same reason many like Obama - He's the NotClinton.
All that matters to most people this election is keeping That Woman and Her Husband from the oval office. Many (myself included) view her candidacy as Bill's end-run around the 22nd amendment.
Of course, I don't support any of the candidates, so I won't be casting a vote for President. I may vote downticket, if there's anyone worthy, but not president.
I caucused for him in IA because I prefer him to the others, but I'm not swooning like a lot of folks. For me a big part of it is the not McClinton thing. I'm sick to death of the ridiculous partisan bickering this past 15 years or so. I don't know if he can come through on his bringing both parties together talk or not, but I do know a President McCain or Clinton would add on at least 4 more years of McHitler/murdered-Vince-Foster nonsense.
As for him being such a socialist, so what? Even factoring out defense spending, the GOP under Bush has handed us the biggest growth in government since the Great Society. The GOP spent the past decade shoving the federal government's nose into every aspect of education, creating a new cabinet-level beurocracy out of whole cloth, and manufacturing a gigantic new entitlement program. I'm supposed to be worried a Democrat may like big government too much?
I'll take left-wing socialism over the right-wing socialism the GOP's been selling any day of the week. It's also icing on the cake that he was right about Iraq from the start.

I was gonna say, "and I think he has a big dick!" but I won't. Seriously, I like what he has to say about immigration. I like many of his environmental ideas. I am glad he is seeking alternatives. I am glad he wants out of Iraq and is smart enough to know we can't do it immediately. We shouldn't have gone, but we can't just bail. I think his interesting parentage will help the white house in many ways...and no, pole-up-your-ass-Jordan, it's not the diversity. The atheistic mama probably helped him with his rational side, and the Islamic background may very well be useful in the ME. It could go either way, but his politeness could win them over. I mean, don't you think the politicians in the ME are sick to death of Georgie Porgie. I am just guessing. And yeah, I do like his realness. I like what seems to be a basic decency about him. He is not snake-in-the-grass McCain or McClinton. I am not big on his health care plan nor some of his fiscal policies that coddle the lazy, but he does seem to want to reward workingclass people. Every politician has to lick some dirty boots. I am hoping he will follow through with the issues that make the most sense all around, and skip around some of the appeasiators. I'm not sure about the dick, but I really DO like the way he walks. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they walk.

I like the fact that Obama doesn't treat people who disagree with him politically as evil, or fools; this means he is able to do business with them. I think this is a good thing. Tip O'Neil and Reagan disagreed a lot politically, but respected each other and were able to do business. He collaborated with Senator Lugar on securing nuclear weapons - not a high profile issue, but an important one. When Obama worked on a health care bill in Illinois, instead of trying to ram it down the throats of insurers, doctors and hospitals, he brought them to the table, and actually got a bill passed. This sort of politics enrages the Kucinich-Edwards angry left of the Democratic party (hooray!) who just want to stick it to the Republicans and the corporations, but to me it sounds like succeeding in doing good for the people you serve.

I am too, but since the GOP has decided sweeping government powers are just dandy folks like you and I only have two choices: The best option is to get behind third party or long-shot candidates that favor limited government like you say. Unfortunately, with the sorry slate we had available this cycle I saw that as a wasted vote so I went with choosing the viable person I viewed as least objectionable.
