Are You Smarter Than A 12th Grader?
A U.S. News & World Report test on money smarts. I got all six right. This is not, however, a brag, because they're easy questions if you're 12 x 3 + 8, which I am. The real question is, how many 12th graders can get the answer to 12 x 3 + 8 right?

I remember looking at Mom when I was in third grade and wondering why it was a big deal to be able to "read at the 12th-grade level". Wasn't the whole point being able to enjoy books more? Even by then, in the '60s and in Florida, standards had slipped so far she couldn't understand why that was considered a gauge of achievement.
If you couldn't read by the end of the second grade when I grew up, you didn't leave the second grade in regular school. Now what? It's OK if you can't, so long as you represent a headcount to get money?

I got 5 out of 6 and I live in Canada so I'm not familiar with US financial regulations (that's my excuse for getting the 50 states question wrong!)

Dear Goddess
Really, you don't look A day over 8 x 3 + 6.

I got 4 out of 6. One of them I know I'd taken similar quiz and got it wrong again. The same one that Chrissy got wrong, CD's are FDIC insured. The last one I simply disagree with as an investment strategy. Buying individual stocks unless you know exactly what your doing is a very bad approach to the whole thing. Mutual funds are usually your best bet, or go through a brokerage firm with good history.
As far as "12 x 3 + 8" that most of the would get right now 8 + 3 x 12 would probably nail lots of students.

Effortless but wrong. You seem to have forgotten basic math. Multiplication and division have precedence over addition/ subtraction. 8 + 3 x 12 means multiply 3 by 12 and then add 8. Answer: 44.
