Too Submissive To Be French!
I just love this. As most of Europe bends over for Islam, all the while apologizing that they haven't bent over quite far enough, the French have told a citizenship-seeking Muslim woman to take herself and the giant pup tent covering her back from whence they came. For Reuters, Estelle Shirbon writes:
PARIS (Reuters) - France has denied citizenship to a veiled Moroccan woman on the grounds that her "radical" practice of Islam is incompatible with basic French values such as equality of the sexes, a legal ruling showed on Friday. The case will reignite debate about how to reconcile freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by the French constitution, and other fundamental rights, which many in France feel are being challenged by the way of life of some Muslims.
Le Monde newspaper said it was the first time a Muslim applicant had been rejected for reasons to do with personal religious practice.
"She has adopted a radical practice of her religion, incompatible with essential values of the French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes," said a ruling by the Council of State handed down last month and sent to Reuters on Friday to confirm a report in Le Monde.
...She wears a black burqa that covers all her body except her eyes, which are visible through a narrow slit, and lives in "total submission" to her husband and male relatives, according to reports by social services. Le Monde said the woman is 32.

I'm originally from Canada but I live in Norway and most of the people I meet on a day to day basis believe that when you come to Norway, you should conform to Norwegian customs. The government says that we should accomodate newcomers to Norway and make them feel at home (unless you are American or they think you are American). Now there are many instances of people coming here, leeching off the system, making open threats to Norway's security, and causing all kinds of problems. When I was in school to learn Norwegian, I was with people from many different nations. Our teachers taught us to be tolerant and embrace each other's differences, which is kind of funny because when I was out on the street with 'ethnic' Norwegians, they all say, 'Send those fuckers back home.'. I'm pretty sure the only reason why most of Europe's nations allow these scumbags to stay is because they want to look better than the United States. It's just a big popularity contest over who deserves a prize for putting up with the most shit.

Now I dont know what the immigration process for France entails but here in america at one point you have to take a test.
Had this woman lived here she obviously would have failed the test since her faith orders her to know nothing other than what the men in her familly say.
So here was my thoght when I saw this story
Why does an irrational belif in an imaginary friend trump the law?

Wonderful little story that might be the sign of a new hard-line against religious extremism. let's keep watching.

Once again, I'm proud to be half French.
Really, they are taking religious freedom too seriously these days and accommodating too far. There are limits. Just as you can't make human sacrifices in the name of religious freedom, this kind of nonsense needs to stop being tolerated.
It's time we all stand up and hollar no the next time some idiot demands sharia courts or that a woman can't remove her veil to get her pic on a driver's license.
Sad truth. You can't have limitless freedom because sooner or later what you're free to do would impinge on someone else's freedom.
Good for France!

Amy, perhaps you should hold a contest for your many readers to send in money to a Paypal account which would go toward sending Atlanta's Cynthia Good to France to fight this clear injustice against one of her sisters.
I can just imagine the protest sign that Ms. Good will carry around:
"A womyn's fashion choice must be hers and hers alone. Free the Womyn of France to all wear black tents!"

I think Cynthia is most in need of a complex surgical operation to pull her head out of her colon.

Whatever happened to "when in Rome..."
I think it's about time. You want to live in a country, adapt to the rules of that country.
Yay France! *claps*
