Who Do You Think Won The Debate, And Why?
I was working on my book all night (it's due this week), and taped the debate. What's your take on it?
My take:
Obama was *slightly* more likely to *kind of* answer a question in under 3 minutes (note: there was a 1 minute time limit per turn). But both were equally full of hot air.
I'd be inclined to vote for anyone, no matter how much I disagreed w/ him/her, if that person just ANSWERED THE FUCKING QUESTION!!
Gretchen at October 8, 2008 6:20 AM
I think Obama's temper-tantrum when he wasn't allowed to respond (against debate rules) to a McCain statement (which he then did instead of anwering the next question) was funny. I'm suprised Brokaw didn't cave to him.
I say McCain. Not hugely. Unfortunately, if all I knew was listening to this debate, Obama sounded decent. The millions of voters who don't bother to do any research will probably go with him. Scary.
Anyone see where the Nevada office of Acorn was raided by the FBI for voter fraud? What are the chances of this coming back to Obama like it should?
momof3 at October 8, 2008 6:29 AM
Who won? The same ole shit politics. Who lost? We did.
I’ll take either ones plan for health care reform. I’m paying $8730/year for health insurance and getting no tax break or credits. Anything would be an improvement from the status quo.
Roger at October 8, 2008 6:38 AM
Momof3, we've got the same thing happening with ACORN here in CT:
HARTFORD -- The State Elections Enforcement Commission has opened an investigation into allegations that a community activist organization submitted at least 10 false voter-registration cards in Bridgeport.
One of the phony registrations was for a 7-year-old girl in the Marina Village housing complex, whose age was listed as 27 on the voter card.
Another registration came from a man who later said he couldn't have completed the voter card purported to be his because he was in jail on the date of the document.
Joseph J. Borges, the city's Republican registrar of voters, filed the complaint with state officials after months of local complaints on the tactics that ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, was regularly filing applications that were ruled ineligible.
In response, a Bridgeport leader of ACORN on Tuesday night called the charges "part of a concerted and coordinated campaign by conservatives and the GOP to attack and discredit ACORN." The charges date back to the summer, when the Connecticut Post reported that ACORN applications were flooding the registrar's office and resulting in excessive extra hours of research to check their authenticity.
"We have many more complaints," Borges said Tuesday, adding that the 10 are just highlights. He said he went to Marina Village personally and interviewed the 7-year-old.
ACORN filed more than 8,000 voter cards in the city during its registration drive, but Borges said the piles of cards are riddled with duplicates and false information that was found by him and his staff.
Borges submitted evidence including the registration of a Stratford woman who said she was "pressured" into completing a card with a Bridgeport address. Another registration contained two voters registration forms with different signatures for the same person.
"We have three boxes of returned letters, with no such address, no such name," Borges said. "It's crazy."
On his complaint, Borges said the flood of ACORN-generated voter cards "has put a strain on my office and jeopardizes our ability to enter legitimate registration cards."
Nancy S. Nicolescu, director of communications for the SEEC, confirmed Tuesday that the commission took the complaint, but declined further comment.
"The only thing I think we can say is we've received it, it's been docketed, and it's under investigation," she said.
When the issue first broke over the summer, ACORN officials said that at least one employee was fired for trumping up voter registrations.
Emeline Bravo Blackwood, chairwoman of the East End ACORN chapter in Bridgeport, said in a statement Tuesday night that she is "proud" of the local and statewide drives that have registered 20,000 new state voters.
"It is shameful that partisan, right-wing operatives -- who are clearly afraid of our ability to bring low-income people to the polls on election day -- are more interested in slinging trumped-up allegations at ACORN than in working with us in our campaigns to stop foreclosures and predatory lending, win paid sick days, raise the minimum wage, and make sure that low-income, working families have a seat at the table in our democracy," she said.
Flynne at October 8, 2008 6:56 AM
I don't think either of them "won." I got tired of the debate quickly. Maybe my mind operates on a more suspicious setting than most, or something; all I kept thinking when one of them started up on "He's wrong because" or "I'm right because" was: tell me where the documents are to prove it, because I don't believe a single thing either one of you is saying just based on the value of your "word".

"That One" Obama, was cool and real, clearly better.
McSame was simply politics as usual, w/ a mean streak. We don’t want his saber rattling in the White House.

Better a sabre than a tea cup.
Flynne at October 8, 2008 10:16 AM
Flynne, did you really think Obama gave off a tea cup vibe? Or do you think his agressive debate talk is just talk and he doesn't intend to back it up if he's elected?
Sam at October 8, 2008 10:30 AM
Tea cup? When asked about Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, Flynne, remind me again who said he would attack Al Queda if Pakistan were "unwilling or unable"? Which one waffled? Seriously Flynne. Please explain.
Eric at October 8, 2008 1:23 PM
Obama is reckless, naive, and stupid. A very dangerous combination.
He's advocated for a unilateral invasion of Pakistan while saying that the war in Iraq was illegal and unnecessary.
He's openly criticized our allies in public fora.
He's propped up the hopes of our enemies likewise.
I think Obama might invade Pakistan just to prove he has balls.
That would be the worst possible reason.
brian at October 8, 2008 1:24 PM
Don't you ever get tired of your own bullshit Brian? How is it only you know these things? Please link to 1 serious person who thinks that America under Obama would invade Pakistan, as if we could.
Eric at October 8, 2008 1:49 PM
How about Obama his mother fucking self.
Fuck you, Eric.
See this? This is my ass. You are free to kiss it.
brian at October 8, 2008 2:12 PM
You're a real asset to humanity Brian. Tell us all again how you are smarter than Obama.
Eric at October 8, 2008 3:13 PM
So you don't think Obama is a serious person. He said it during the debate last night.
Jim Treacher at October 8, 2008 8:36 PM
No, he is not talking about an invasion. He is talking about taking out the guy who killed 3,000 innocent people and may attack us again. This would be a concerted air or missile strike in the outlying areas surrounding Afghanistan. Maybe a hundred or so American soldiers for cleanup. You know, like what the current policy is.
Jim, you do know we are conducting these operations in Pakistan and Iran right now, don't you?
Let's put it up to a vote: if we know where Osama bin laden is in Pakistan, and have the opportunity to kill him, should we?
Eric at October 8, 2008 9:23 PM
well, if we know where he is, sure.
I have a different take; why do all that? Why spend the money to send troops on a wild goose chase in godforsaken mountain ranges? Is Osama honestly a real threat? If he's still alive, he hasnt really shown up on the radar in a while. I think we should pull out of those countries we can (we're so deep into iraq reconstruction that doing so now seems absurd) and let our intel sit. If Osama is truly alive and wants to attack us, this time we'll be waiting for him. just keep tabs on the currents and when Osama gets bold enough, he'll show his head. And have it shot off. Otherwise, we're wasting time and money.
Scott at October 9, 2008 2:25 AM
Eric. Bin Laden's been dead since 2003. And "cross border raids" are a far cry from an invasion, which is what Obama was talking about.
Of course, that would be lost on you since you've got your head so far up Barack's ass you can see his tonsils.
brian at October 9, 2008 7:19 AM
Again, it is amazing what you know Brian.
Eric at October 9, 2008 7:36 AM
Well, Eric, since you're obviously an intellectual giant, and I am but a mere retard, why don't you enlighten me with even one shred of evidence that Bin Laden is still above the dirt?
The man is a camera hound. He's not been seen on video since 2003. He never did audio tapes prior to that. And authenticating a voice on a bad cassette tape is not something I'm going to accept as evidence.
What's amazing, Eric, is how you manage to keep breathing with your head up Obama's ass.
brian at October 9, 2008 7:50 AM
As long as we are rumoring... I heard a rumor back in 2003 that Osama had some sort of condition that required him to be on dialysis, therefor was unlikely to still be alive.
NicoleK at October 9, 2008 8:15 AM
Nicole: I've heard the same thing, but I've also heard the opposite.
I suspect the temperature at Tora Bora was a little too high for meat to survive in. Hence no more Bin Laden tapes.
brian at October 9, 2008 8:26 AM
While Obama has actually been dead since 2001, I nonetheless agree with Eric on this one.
