Africa Is A Continent?
NAFTA? Is that a competitor of Huggies? So glad Sarah Palin knows energy policy! From Fox News, there's this:
UPDATE: I'M SORRY
Martin was right. I shouldn't have posted the Palin Fox News video sourced only from a "McCain campaign worker." It was a hoax, and the two who perpetuated it are absolutely vile and I hope Palin sues them down to their jockey shorts. I don't think she will, and I think being victimized this way will increase her standing considerably in the long run. This sort of thing is the antithesis of behavior promoting democracy and anybody who hires these two scumbags will not only not get my dollar but will likely get my boycott of the rest of their products.

This was an election driven by the "revolutionary" nature of the two tickets. One had a black man and the other had a woman. We're so obsessed with diversity that we put an unqualified woman on the Republican ticket, and we put an unqualified black man on the Democratic ticket. Holy shit.
Jeff at November 6, 2008 12:09 AM
Great hair, though. And I *love* her eyeglasses! They really look great on those high cheekbones.
The Republican party is soooo fucked. Bobby Jindal could probably ask the RNC for breakfast in bed every day for the next four years and get it.

If she was a Democrat, I'd still want to know the name of the source.
And I will now refrain from using foul language to describe you guys. Have fun for the next four years. Goodbye.
Jim Treacher at November 6, 2008 4:35 AM
Sounds like a whole lot of blame laying from a losing campaign. I'm with Treacher on this one - let's know the actual source before we give full faith and credit to the reporting.
Or are you saying you believe everything Fox News reports now?
BlogDog at November 6, 2008 5:31 AM
regardless of whether this is true or not, if the GOP wants to survive, they must ditch the overwhelming pandering to the social conservatives.
talking about Jesus isn't going to win you elections. talking about Adam Smith, will.

Amazing that no one spoke about how qualified our last president was - and he was voted for twice... AND WHITE. So at least, this time we do have some diversity. Equal opportunity for anyone who is equally unqualified to be president.
april at November 6, 2008 9:36 AM
90 % of Americans thought the country was going in the wrong direction.
The incumbent President's approval rating was
The country is heading into the worst recession since the Great Depression.
Americans had the chance to vote for their first black President.
And people think Sarah Palin was the reason Republicans lost this election?
Amy, you asked for substantial evidence of Palin's qualifications. I posted at great length about that yesterday, and I'm not going over it again. Against the overwhelming real-world evidence from her record, you are so gullible that you're ready to mindlessly swallow ludicrous, anonymous 3rd party rumours from backstabbing sacks of shit who are looking for any scapegoat they can find to divert the blame for running one of the worst-organized campaigns in history.
She spent a huge amount of time as Governor negotiating a deal with a Canadian company for a pipeline through Canada to the lower 48...Oh fuck it, I'm not going to lower myself to try and rationally refute such asinine gossip. The fact that you're willing to give it any credibility says more about you than it does about her.
"Talking about Jesus isn't going to win you elections. Talking about Adam Smith, will".
Obama talked about spreading the wealth, not The Wealth of Nations. He is absolutely hell-bent on raising taxes on investors in the depths of a recession, for the sake of "fairness", and on imposing protectionism to pander to his allies in Big Labor. In fact, his economic policies are pretty well identical to those that turned the Crash of '29 into the Great Depression.
Who won the election?

I didn't have time to go through your post and pick at things, but earmarks, for example -- she brought in plenty of them, etc. Again, I want to see why she's qualified to be VP, not why she is qualified to be governor. I don't think it's farfetched that she wouldn't know those things based on what I heard in her interviews. Please understand that I wanted to like her from the start, and was predisposed to like her. I like her persona. That's not enough.

I'm gonna get tired of saying this on various blogs/forums but consider the source.. or wait we don't know who the source is yet and the timing is suspicous.
Sure, I didn't have a great impression of Palin's smarts/policies but the media and dem campaign did a great hatchet job on her and she failed to define herself, letting them do it. She apparently took on the job as most VP's do, as team chearleader and thus blam, is gonna take heat from a badly run campaign combined with the factors Martin mentions above.
Sio at November 6, 2008 10:12 AM
Why pretend she's a Dem when there's a real live Boob for a Dem soon to be VP that we can make fun of. Doing the jobs the MSM won't do, so to speak.
I love Sara, BTW. A little more seasoning and she'll be fine. She's clearly smart and can think on her feet. It's not like she'd be asked to split the atom with kitchen utensils if she'd been elected.
Sean at November 6, 2008 11:51 AM
Amy, can you point to anything - ANYTHING - in Bob Barr's record that would lead a rational person to believe that he's qualified for any high office, let alone President/Vice President? Can you point me to any proof that Barr has a superior knowledge of international relations?
It's easy to make the case that Palin was unqualified for VP, but no one who looks at the record from her office in Alaska and compares it to the evidence from Barr's office in Georgia can reasonably deny that her record is much more impressive.
Yes I know it was a protest vote, but you just voted for a man who is manifestly unqualified for high office.
Martin at November 6, 2008 12:12 PM
And Bobby "The Exorcist" Jindal is much more of a creationist nutter and a much more militant pro-lifer than Palin is. Don't think that that will escape the MSM's attention if he decides to throw his hat in the ring in 2012.
At least Jindal and Palin both have proven records of superior competence in high office.

These snipes from disgruntled McCain workers simply doesn't pass the smell test. They also said that Palin didn't know who the 3 countries in NAFTA were. I simply do not believe this. I took the time to watch the Alaska gubernatorial debates. Palin simply doesn't strike me as the big dummy that so many of you feel comfortable believing.
It's long been said that the first victim of war is the truth. I believe this also applies to politics.
Make no mistake that much posturing is going on for which wing of the Republican Party will rule it in the coming 4+ years. I believe this is very much a part of it.

Fair question. But no one has excited the Republican base more than Palin. Those first couple weeks were their best time since Reagan. And at this point, you'd probably agree that the loyalties of the Fox network are indisputably conservative.
So when a report like this comes from that source (and from their showcase venues), it gets a little extra street cred.
I agree that people should wait for confirmation before presuming this is true. For all we know, this is the work of campaign staffers trying to scapegoat their own failure. They're going to be looking for jobs in 2012, too.
But after hearing that she thought Africa was a nation and not a continent, I was again disappointed in Katie Couric: A more competent journalist ought to have been able to expose incompetence of this magnitude. And ought to have been able to do it subtly, without the interview subject (or their audience) feeling like she was being mocked.
Crid [cridcridatgmail] at November 6, 2008 12:58 PM
One more thing Amy. How many times have you shown your utter contempt for anonymous trolls who spew hateful ignorance at you from the safety of their mommy's basements and don't have the balls to sign their names?
And yet here you are, using your blog to give credibility to vicious insults spread by nameless, spineless sacks of shit who don't have the balls to face the public.

I've seen so many shows that show how little Americans know about the world outside of the United States. Georaphic ignorance is not uncommon in this country.
If she was competent, and these things are, in fact, untrue, then what STILL do you explain for the fact that McCain and his campaign muzzled her and kept her out of press conferences. what STILL of the idiotic comments she's made. what STILL about the fact she has no interest in foreign policy, constitutional law, ad infinitum.
She might be an ok governor, but she does come close to being a suitor for the highest office on the fvcking planet.
To me, she's more like a plaintiff on Judge Judy. But that's another story...
farker at November 6, 2008 4:42 PM
One of two things is true: either Sara Palin really is more stupid than anyone imagined, or McCain's staff was made up of lying, petty, backbiting assholes. I tend to believe the second one; however, all of this just makes me happy that McCain lost.
Karen at November 6, 2008 6:06 PM
"the idiotic comments she's made..."
You mean like
"The most important thing right now is a 3-letter word: JOBS. J-O-B-S"
"When the Great Depression started in 1929, President Roosevelt went on television to address the nation"
"Gird your loins!"
This from the guy who really is a heartbeat away, after sitting in the Senate for 36 FUCKING YEARS.
How do you account for that?
Martin at November 6, 2008 11:30 PM
yes martin, because pointing out someone elses flaws relieves her of her own.
It's like claiming you're the best waitress at Denny's. that may be so, but so effing what?
farker at November 7, 2008 10:46 AM
You're right, it doesn't.
But her flaws relating to lack of knowledge can be fixed. There's no excuse for her trainwrecks with thr press at the start of the campaign, but by the end of it she was the most press-friendly of the candidates, and Biden was the one being muzzled.
If she never steps onto the national stage again, she'll still go down as one of Alaska's best-ever Governors, and that's good enough for me. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to a lot of laughs from Biden in the next 4 years.
