Anybody Get A Cell Phone Call Supposedly From McDonald's?
I did -- was on my voicemail, about some contest. Not sure if it's actually from McDonald's, but that's what it says, and it sounds like it's a professionally recorded voiceover (several people talk on the call, if I remember correctly). I have it saved to voicemail.
I'm on the Do Not Call list, and I sure don't want calls on my cell phone from any company. In fact, I discourage friends from calling me on my cell, and it's always on vibrate.

I have difficulty being polite to people who spam my landline. But I manage, because for the most part, they are doing a difficult job for little money, so I politely ask them to place me on their in house Do! Not! Call! list, as being shitty to them does not advance me in any way. It would be like yelling at the paper boy because you don't like the headlines.
However, if you call someone at their desk, you risk catching them at a bad time. If you call someone on their cell phone, you risk catching them at a bad time *and place*. I'm wondering if I would be able to be so polite to someone who called me while I was deep into something else, like dinner.
Go ahead and spam my email. I can filter. But my cell phone is a work tool, and if it goes off, I pretty much have to answer it. If you are not one of my clients, I'm gonna be pissed.

It is a federal crime to call a cell phone for marketing purposes.
What's happening is that these scammers (and I have no doubt that there's some scam going on here somewhere) are robocalling random numbers in the hope of finding a mark.

Uhhmm, not quite:
A PowerPoint from Jacksonville State:Illegal to make a phone call by means of an automatic dialing system or pre-recorded (or artificial) voice that results in the party called being charged for the call (includes cell phone calls).
But I agree its annoying. And to add to it, if you fill out your cell-phone number on one of those free giveaway type things, you have just opened up your cell to marketing. If you read the fine print in the raffle things. Post the link in the next one.
