Not to be mean, but it's 52 here, going to 82 today. It went to 86 yesterday. It's a little cold in my house now, so Lucy's wearing a sweater and so am I. A little cold, like 66 or something, I'd guess. So sorry, hate to gloat. Well, not enough to stop doing it.

Up yours, Alkon.
We got to a balmy -2°F overnight. Dog was not terribly interested in staying outside to play this morning at -1°

Up yours, Alkon.
Tee hee.

Nah. Go ahead and gloat.
Our son-in-law called last night, worried that we might be suffering, with lows for two nights in the -20s, forecast to fall nearly to -30 last night. So I sent a reassuring e-mail to the extended family gloating about how warm the house is with two wood stoves fired up. And about having antelope steaks smothered in Parmesan and onions cooked on the wood cookstove.
I don't know how cold it actually got last night, but the car started this morning, and my wife took off for her knitting lesson in town. We're not in danger of cabin fever. Besides, a warmup is forecast starting tomorrow and lasting through the week.
Your weather sounds perfect; we'll have to wait for May to expect anything like it.
Axman at January 16, 2009 8:41 AM
I should have mentioned that the warmup next week might even include an hour or two of above-freezing temps on Tuesday. A good day to go bird hunting.

I'd like to see Lucy in her sweater! See how the other half lives... without mittens, hats, etc. etc.

I'm in San Diego, and it's been in the mid-80's for the last week. I get a really perverted glee out of telling my cold-weather family and friends about going to the beach in a bikini in the middle of January.

Woke up this morning in Winnipeg to the warmest temperatures this week, -30 (-22F). On Wednesday, the temp was -36 (-31F) with a windchill of -51 (-58F) at 7:00am.
I'm really looking forward to that vacation in Puerto Vallarta in a couple of weeks.

Oh real cute, Amy...
(Next year I'm sticking our log stack inside. It's just perishing on Long Island)

Groaner I read somewhere: An elderly North Dakota lady is informed by the state government that, due to an old, overlooked surveying error, her property is actually situated in South Dakota. "Well, that's just fine with me, dontcha know," she cackled. "I didn't think I could stand another of those damn North Dakota winters!"
Sorry, just had to do that. Not that bad here compared to elsewhere -- 17 degrees. Looking at msn.com, Los Angeles does have a weather warning, which reads thus: "HIGH SURF EXPECTED ON WEST FACING BEACHES OF VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTIES BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT... "
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

You can all be glad you're not in Toronto, where a huge slice of the West End has been freezing in the dark ever since 10 PM last night, after a watermain burst & flooded a power station, short-circuiting everything in sight. And this on one of the coldest nights ever in the city. Hope they don't find too many old folks frozen dead tomorrow...

"-30? Let's hope they're moving toward nuclear power for heating there!"
And for cooling LA in the summer.
I was going to dog on your air quality too but ozone, the only common parameter I could easily find, is only forcasted to be 3 ppb higher in Santa Monica than Detroit.
I actually agree with you that LA has nice weather, it's just that too many other people like the weather there as well.

How I miss Southern California Winters. Not to bad here in the deep south. About 45 out side now. By the way learned something since I left "No season having" Southern California, seasons are are entirely over rated! Give me between 60 and 85 all year long and I am one happy son of a bitch.
pvm at January 16, 2009 12:12 PM
The major downside to Southern California is the ground tends to move. I like my ground to stay where I left it.
I wish they'd build some nukes up here. We had to shut all of ours down due to the criminal negligence of Northeast Utilities, and since we get all our power from out of state, we pay twice what everyone else in the area does.
There are, as yet, no plans to build a power plant anywhere in Connecticut.

We're at 56 now, when we were only supposed to have a high of 49 today. Last week my mom (who lives in Vegas) was complaining that it was around 42 there that day, and we had a high of 45 (I live in Nebraska). So of course I had to gloat a bit. I like todays temps better than yesterday. Snow & a high of 22. Bleah! I would'nt mind snow so much if it didn't go hand in hand with ice.
Sandy at January 16, 2009 12:28 PM
It was -21 when I left my apartment this morning. It's now warmed up to a cozy 5 degrees above zero. I think that's the warmest it's been here(St. Paul) all week.
Amanda at January 16, 2009 2:04 PM
72 degrees here.
Went to the beach.
Happy dogs swimming in the surf.
Is that a haiku?
