Did Your State Get Its Fair Share Of Porkulus?
A question from Powerline. Here are all the states, and here's mine. Note the new kitchens we're buying in Alameda ("Replace kitchen, bath cabinets and counters in all the 186 units of the Independence Plaza") And then there's the "vintage lighting" we're buying for the city of Alameda. Somebody likes Alameda. And why is nobody painting my house?

I notice that WV gets exactly ONE project. At $700,000 total, the 2nd-poorest state is getting the least amount of money listed.

Of course, part of the explanation is that, at last call, WV actually still had viable state savings and was not hit too hard by the real estate bubble. So there wasn't much motivation for the gov. to go begging.

But as for the rest of the story- well, WV did not go to Obama in the primary or general election and came in for plenty of ugly, bigoted criticism because of it.

Can you say 'Revenge'? Thought you could.

yeah, I had to wonder who WV pissed off... but basically the central US didn't get much, reflecting that most people live on the coasts and figure we are flyover country. We got 201 projects and O is coming here to sign the bill, as if that's some big deal...

$23.2 billion for California, Ms. Alkon? What profligate spendthrifts you are! Our great Commonwealth of Virginia only gets about $2.3 billion, and about 80% of that going to Hampton Roads (Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, etc.). Of course, your state probably has ten times more Democrats than Virginia has...

Let the floodgates open!

1200 projects for only 10 billion, we must be utilizing our enormous illegal labor pool. Yippee texas.

My fav is the disk golf course. Lots of jobs there!

CT got a lot of dough, for roughly 10% of the cities in the state. I noticed Bridgeport got a freakin' boatload of money, and it's such a pit. Hartford didn't get much, and it's more of a pit than Bport. Stratford and Stamford got a lot more than I thought they would, and Meriden and Waterbury got a boatload. Norwalk got some, too. Hmmmmm. New Haven did pretty well. Not that Milford really needed much, but I see that one project that the city wanted federal funding for got cut. But hey, we've done without a boardwalk that connects Silver Sands State Park and Walnut Beach for this long, what's a few more years? But nothing for Groton, where Electric Boat, the Coast Guard Academy and the Sub Base are? Something's amiss. But with DeLauro, Lieberman and Dodd pretty much running the show here, I'm not surprised. o.O

My state's getting $380,458,530. I notice that all of it is divided up between Lincoln and Omaha. $3,000,000 of it is going to replace a Golf Clubhouse in Lincoln. I'm sure THAT'S a big emergency.

3rd projest on AZ list is the 3 million dollar clean up of two miles of a residental street,

Amy I'll send you a screen capture of my GPS software that you can add as an update if you like

Flynne -

Can someone please explain to me how spending 1.2 BILLION dollars on Bilgeport is going to make it any less of a shithole?

For that money they could relocate all the assholes there to the moon and still have enough left for lunch. Which might actually make it a nice place.

Of course, Ganim tried to fix the place, but they threw him in jail for being mobbed up or some shit like that.

When are we gonna learn that you don't fix a city in the northeast without a little "Family" assistance?

Posted by: brian at February 17, 2009 7:54 PM

Brian, you and I might not know how but I am certain those "Families" will get their (self defined) fair share of the pork pie.
