It amazes me what ugly shit (sometimes literally) passes as "art".
But bad as this is, what's really laughable is when they give an elephant (or something) a paint brush and have them splash on a canvas like a kindergartner fingerpainting and then have the nerve to call it art and ooh and ah about how amazing it is.
No, the emperor has no new clothes.

Art should convey a message, an aesthetic view of life. I see nothing here that I wouldn't put on a dog park so the Goddess's Dog (and countless others) could mark their territory.
Lawn ornament, that's what they did with it. Some people at the LA County Museum of Art dumped this piece of crap outside of the museum. I guess SOME people working at the museum got good tastes.

Is there a giant hand in a giant baggie hovering over it?
This piece took funding from not one, but two funds: The Caplan Family Contemporary Art Fund and the Frederick B. Weisman Contemporary Art Fund. It usually resides at the Baltimore Museum of Art. (They were apparently overstocked with poo so they loaned it out.)
I hope the tax payers didn't have to fund that piece of sh*t. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Anyway, I live near Omaha, and yes Omaha actually does have "art."
However, near the university they have some taxpayer funded art that looks like giant concrete sewer drains, and a few other pieces of "art" that would pass for material at the local landfill. All funded by the tax payer.
I'm sure that local tax payers are taking it in the shorts all over the country, for these pieces of "art."
I hope the taxpayers didn't have to pay for that grotesque display above!

It's my belief that the only "art" that should be funded by taxpayers is architecture... I think it would be great if courthouses, etc. were pretty again.
As for this crap- pure waste. (No, really.) If an artist can't get a commission (or can't get someone to buy his work at a show), he should consider a career change.

The problem with public funding for art, is the same problem you have when you see multiple people in a room trying to write a sentence. You usually wind up with something rather like that piece of "art".
Art was better off when it was privately funded and a certain amount of talent was required to be successful.
Modern art's only message seems to be that it has very little to say that is worth saying.
It was all over when Warhol signed a soup can.

Art like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have no gripe with "artists" and any piece they are inspired to create. I have a large (read huge, monstrous, mad as hell) super gripe when they expect me and other taxpayers to fund/buy what no one else wants. Let them sell their "art" on the open market; but, don't force me to pay for it.

Ahh, once again the Philistines go, "Pbbbb!"
This is an illustration of fundamental principles.
The first one is "The Cluster Index". The Index is a number determined by counting the number of people involved in production. Background: as the number rises, it includes many who have no skill or comprehension whatsoever, but who have the power and inclination to make changes. This distorted the intent of the sculptor, who still managed to include the other principle in the display: "What Goes Around Comes Around Is Still The Same Old...". The bald statement is that nothing is new, and that political correctness prevents his art from having an edge.
It's a Mobius strip with no edge.
I'm surprised I have to explain these things.

Oops. I forgot the other statement this art makes: "If you paint a turd, you can pick it up by the clean end."
In this year's summer show at London's Royal Academy of Arts, "Exhibit 1201" is a large rectangular tablet of slate with a tiny barbell-shaped bit of boxwood on top. Its creator, David Hensel, must be pleased to have been selected from among some 9,000 applicants for the world's largest open-submission exhibit of contemporary art.
It amazes me what ugly shit (sometimes literally) passes as "art".

THIS is giant poo art paid for by the taxpayer (bonus points for non-European-invader historical frame of reference):
