I'm a finalist in a few categories (see below). (100K refers to circulation -- over 100,000 circulation...I run in large and small papers.) Awards are giving out in mid-June. Here's hoping! In the second one, I'm up against my friend and reason editor-in-chief Matt Welch, a formidable candidate, who's doing an amazing job (the LA Times sure was dumb to let reason snap him up)!

Good luck. You have my vote.
David M. at May 15, 2009 9:10 AM
Yeah, especially in the headline categories. Your headlines crack me up.
Sarah at May 15, 2009 9:19 AM
What? Someone in the LA Press Club thinks that "Safety Concern" beats "From Beer to Eternity"?
Seriously, here's hoping for a few more trophies on your mantel.
Martin at May 15, 2009 9:20 AM
Good for you!!! Congrats.
Feebie at May 15, 2009 11:40 AM
Good luck, Amy! o.O

Wait a minute! This isn't FAIR! I don't see any of these categories that are reserved for women only! Doesn't that imply that women don't require "special" recognition for their achievements in the male-dominated world of the keyboard?
Damn! I'll just have to assume that Amy can compete with ANYONE, notwithstanding that she's a hot, flame-headed, flame-throwing chick.
Congratulations, Amy! Now kick ass and take names, ok?
Jay R at May 15, 2009 12:16 PM
Sweet! Best of luck to you! & I love the headlines too
MeganNJ at May 15, 2009 12:27 PM
You're a shoe-in for the headlines. Going through the years of this blog reading just the headlines would be a lot funnier than an evening of sitcoms or a Hollywood teen comedy.
Kinda liked "Role Models", though. Let's sing along with McCartney:
Love, take me down
To the streets...
Watching with a remote control in hand minimizes the damage

Incredible. All this recognition and you are banned from the L.A. paper of record?
I don't know of this "Press Club" but if it is, as it seems, kudos from your fellow journalists then, that is bitchin. Unfortunately journalists these days (at least ones with staff membership) are complete crap. I am talking about stuff like, when I was following the pig flu outbreak, Le Figaro was saying "20 dead in U.S." when they meant 20 cases. BAD.
But syndicated journalism (which I equate to free-lance) passes my muster most of the time. Especially in the age of blogs; I mean free lancers were the proto-bloggers, no? But it must make your life tough, not having a "regular job" and all. Still waiting for your book to come out!

Shoo-in. Yes, I'm embarassed. Can we get on with our weekend now?
Thankee

You're a shoe-in for the headlines. ... Shoo-in. ~ Crid
Wow, I learn something every day from this blog .... I always thought shoe-in also, like foot-goes-in-shoe.
~~~
In case anyone else wants to know ...
"The correct form is shoo-in, usually with a hyphen. It has been known in that spelling and with the meaning of a certain winner from the 1930s. It came from horse racing, where a shoo-in was the winner of a rigged race.
In turn that seems to have come from the verb shoo, meaning to drive a person or an animal in a given direction by making noises or gestures, which in turn comes from the noise people often make when they do it."
MeganNJ at May 15, 2009 2:00 PM
"Jay R...you have a warped sense of humor....I like that! :-)"
Julie, only "warped"? That's generous! You should see it from MY side! (Paraphrasing a great line by a wasted Lee "Kid Shaleen" Marvin in the classic "Cat Ballou.")
You're ok yourself, but I don't expect we'll be tradin' spit in the shower anytime soon, as they say!
Jay R at May 15, 2009 2:20 PM
By the way, Welch made an devastating incursion into your territory by naming this "Blood Diamond."
Fucking perfect: Smartass, illustrative, not-too-distracting...
Crid [cridcridatgmail] at May 15, 2009 3:38 PM
Thanks, everybody -- been out all day...we shot the promo to get advertisers for my web TV show we've been developing...just woke up!...really nice to see all this.
