Two Interesting Books Somebody Here Bought On Amazon
One of my big influences, Albert Ellis, the late founder (with Aaron Beck) of cognitive behavioral therapy, was influenced by the Stoic philosopher Epictetus, who said, "It is not events that disturb us, but the view we take of them."
So, I was very interested in these two books somebody bought by clicking through the Amazon logo on Amy's Mall:
A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy and The Stoics: A Guide for the Perplexed (Continuum Guides for the Perplexed)
.

No FTC disclosure? For shame. ;-)

Oh, and fuck you, FTC. Let the marketplace rule, and don't treat adults like children. People know who's a shill. And if they don't, maybe by getting taken for a ride once or twice, they'll learn.
A Detroit newspaper columnist hit on me when I was 14 or 15 after I rode my bike over to his house, which wasn't too far from my parents. I guess I thought he'd impart great wisdom to me. Instead, he started pawing me, and I hightailed it out of there. I learned something: Hmmm, if you go over to a man's house alone, something besides journalism lessons may happen. Now I know. Case closed. Girl growed up fast.

That never gets old for me, I laugh every time. You tell 'em, Amy.

Also "Feeling Good," by David Burns. He's a staunch believer in cognitive therapy and gives a great deal of credit to Albert Ellis.
And fuck you, FTC, from me as well. No one's paying to recommend Burns.

Difficulties show men for what they are. In case of any difficulty God has pitted you against a rough antagonist that you may be a conqueror. And this cannot be without toil.
