Hot Off Hot Air
Did a great half hour radio show about my book and rudeness in general yesterday, with Hot Air's Ed Morrissey, who asked great questions, which made for what I think is a very interesting piece. Here's a link to the piece on Hot Air, and here's the show below. (To listen to just my segment, slide the little line to the 30 minute mark -- I came on 30 minutes in.)

I'm liking the Guaraldi-esque Charlie Brown music he has for an introduction anyway. I also enjoyed his fixation with the subtitle, "One woman's battle to beat some manners into impolite society."
You did a very good job and your host did well in plugging the book.

Ed Morrissey sounds like the nicest guy ever. He calls his granddaughter "the little Admiral". I frankly don't believe him when he says he, too, commits occasional acts of inadvertent rudeness.
In addition to enjoying the substance of the interview, it was interesting to hear your voice, Amy. It adds to the complete picture, if that doesn't sound too stalkerish.

I may have my own piece of rudeness. Amy, did you mention that you were going to be on the Dr. Phil show?
You are looking good so far.

Hi, Robin. If you're interested in hearing another example of Amy's voice, it just so happens I know just the place.
Here's Amy on "Ring My Bell."
Dear Amy,
I have a rude cat. I was laying in bed last night, trying to read my new book, "I See Rude People: One woman's battle to beat some manners into impolite society," and I was enjoying it very much. But my cat, Seraph, jumped up on my bed and began to purr loudly. "What is this?" I wondered. "This cat is taking up my air space with her loud purring! She doesn't even have a cell phone!"
Then to make matters worse, she jumped over my body and proceeded to lay on the book I was reading. I nudged her off my book and started to pet her, hoping she'd stay where I repositioned her. No luck. She walked right over to my book and started to lay on it again. Thinking perhaps it was just the spot she wanted, so I adjusted my position and was able to move the book out from under her and place it in a different spot, so I could read. I tried to pet her where she was, again hoping that would give her incentive to stay where she had placed herself. Again, no. She got up and started to lay on my book again. I took my book out from under her again and turned over, planning to read on my other side. Nothing daunted, this persistent purring machine jumped over me and started to rub her face on mine, still purring noisily.
Finally, I decided to take a hint from the book I was reading and confronted the rudester. "Now listen, Seraph. You're being very rude. Your loud purring is cluttering up my airspace and your interposing your furry body between me and my book is stopping me from reading! You need to have more consideration, especially on my bed."
A largely ineffectual tirade, although I did my best. What did I do wrong?

You got a cat instead of a dog.

Oh, wait! This is what I forgot! Public humiliation. Here's a picture of the feline rudester right here.
Wait till she comes back in. I'm going to show her that she's on the internet now, her rudeness laid bare for all the world to see!

Aww, no...thanks so much for listening. When a host is smart, it's such a pleasure...I appreciate any opportunity to promote my book, but I'm a sucker for interviews like this where it's really interesting for me, too.
And Ed Morrissey's a class act!

I just ordered the Advice Ladies' book, too. I'd love to read it. Someone's been tweaking your page on Wikipedia. They even added a nice picture of you, too. Black dress with evening gloves (rather like your latest book cover), gigantic black hat, from the DeepGlamour Fashion Celebration.
I have my eyes on it for vandals. I'm hoping to pin down some more information about you.
Regarding the Ellis "saner" quote about you, and the Howard Bloom "intellectually promiscuous," someone's asking for a citation. Do you have a source for these quotes?
I have a feeling, despite the disappearance of newspapers, you'll find your way back into a few of them very soon. (If you'd be so good as to find your way back into a Tampa Bay paper, I will be sure to reward them by purchasing advertising and/or buying a subscription. And if your column bumps Dan Savage's, so much the better. That will be two public services you did for Tampa Bay.)

I hate to be critical but, I heard too many "you know"s from both of you during your interview. I really enjoy you comlumn every day on the internet. I wish that you could be back in the newspaper as you were before. Mine is the OC Register.
Thank you for saying all the things that I would like to say but can't about rude people.

Also, people who've read it can review it on Amazon, and I find that reviews are helpful in my decision to buy books.

Done deal, darlin'. Still enjoying the book. I laughed out loud at the passive-aggressive Santa part. Perfect ideas for kids whose parents just won't parent. The 1000 piece beading kit with the operative words, "loose glitter" on the cover.
I so wish I had thought of that. I know so many who just need things like that.
It's really interesting to read how indifferent parents are...my mother was a single parent of nine, which I am the last, and she sees parents now in restaurants and she can't believe what she's seeing. Some kid starts screaming and the parents ignore it, and she said, "There was no way I would put up with that, even for a minute."
She didn't by the way. If we started acting up, she took us out of the store and gave us the tongue-lashing from hell. "...we are going back inside now...and...you...will...behave."

HotAir.com and Advicegoddess.com are two of my 'go to' daily sites - I'm giddy with the ditty of both 'love birds sitting in a tree'!
Amy, you rock. I'm a near neighbor, and have seen you at a local eatery a time or two. I've witnessed your decency...and fabulous shoes! I wish you all the best.
