Robert Wright Debates Christopher Hitchens
Wright actually blame Hassan's Ft. Hood massacre, in the name of Islam, on American policy. Here is the five-minute version, with just that bit above and Hitchens' response, at Bloggingheads.
And here's the entire thing, first on foreign policy, and then on religion:
Wright makes my flesh crawl. Hitch sets my heart free. Put 'em together and it's an hour of good fun. RW drinks coffee and water, CH drinks coffee and red wine... And wins.
I like the way Hitch finally decides just to let Wright's meandering, ever-so-condescending argument about how the fight against terrorism creates terrorism simply collapse under his grade-schooler's overexplanation. Love that.

Who the hell is Wight? Isn't he just the carbon copy orthodox liberal for Kaus to abuse on these Bloggingheads.tv? shows (my dislike for video-only links has been registered. Why should we - or Hitchens - care what Wright has to say?

Funny you should ask; I'd think of you as soul brothers.

Wright is grossly outclassed and plays himself into the fool's corner, especially when he started to insist that he hadn't been blaming US for Ft Hood and everything else after blaming the US for Ft Hood and everything else and after Hitch pointed out that he had already said it, he said it again... strange fellow. It was like watching the same grade schooler write "red" with a green crayon and insist that it was really red.
Hitchens' contrarian independence lets Hitch be right all the time so-to-speak, while Wright must carry all of the standard political tropes of his team no matter how many foolish knots you have to tie yourself into. You don't go to the debate table against someone who has the freedom to be consistent when *you* have to carry *any* specific ideological jug of water.
