A Girl And Her Luggage Are Soon Parted
At LAX, United Airlines is having luggage processing issues, the Portland baggage issues guy told me. They have been for the past few days, he said.
But, hey, never mind telling passengers that, or -- gee whiz! -- fixing the problem pronto. Just let passengers pay $15 or $20 a bag to put their luggage on the plane, only to get to their destination without it.
I kinda need mine, since I'm in Portland for a TV appearance and book events, and then going on to Toronto to be on the CBC. They finally delivered it to our hotel, lucky me.
That is why I always travel with a change of socks, underwear and a polo shirt in my carry-on. And if I don't have to fly, I don't.

You should have worn the shoes for the show on the plane Amy!

I had nice black flare pants on and a black cashmere turtleneck and high-heeled boots. Still, it's a far cry from my usual evening dress-as-daywear, which I'm putting on now, with the very high-heeled boots from my suitcase.

When will you be on the CBC Amy? What show? Who's the host? If it's one of the shows with and audience maybe some of your Toronto fans can get in.

Dress warm for Toronto, my family says it's finally turned cold up there.
I think United always had baggage issues at LAX, last time I went through on my way back from Vancouver in Oct, my bag disappeared for 6 hours...I was pissed (as I always am by such things) and bitched and they gave me a $150 voucher...but the best thing was the delivery of my luggage that night.

I've started sending luggage ahead by UPS or FedEx Ground. Costs about the same as airline baggage fees, but with much better certainty of delivery and better tracking, and you don't have to lug it home from the airport. Works if you'll be at your destination for a while. Perfect for going home.
Now if I can just figure out how to stop flying altogether, until the idiot government gets serious and starts effective security measures, like profiling actual terrorists instead of profiling tactics. When was the last time and Israeli airliner was bombed or hijacked?

That's precisely the kind of service that's costing you $15-20 per bag: It's their Delivery Fee.
Ugh. I feel for you.
Me am on the ground, for a long while.
