Very elegant.

Offtopic lawlessness.

Offtopic continuance: The smirking pedestrian has replied.
I hate phone-talkers with sharp-toothed ferocity, and Arrington can be a dork, but we can't have weasel engineers deciding that every petty violation is worth risking their life for. It's a bad example; it typifies the distorted proportions in the perception of the California Lefties, as well as their fantasies of personal heroism. Also, Tienanmen moves on their campus make Google people look dick-y, especially in view of their smug arrangements with China, only recently unraveling.

Ontopic: Amy looks cool, but Wesley Snipes made a violent movie where he dressed like that. What title is she browsing, do you suppose?

If only that look were liquidified graham cracker-spit-up compatible.....

Very nice, Amy. Men love a woman in a hat.
Eric at February 6, 2010 7:59 AM
That, and if only that look were compatible for much shorter women....
However, I WANT THE HAT. AND I WANT THE JACKET. Where did you find them, pleasepleasepleaseplease Amy?

Jacket, like so many things I own, was bought on eBay for about $20. Leather, by Marquis, says "made in Canada." Little shorty thing, moto front, which I always love. Serial on it is 76T3696, but it's probably old. Moto styles went out, but they're always in style as far as I'm concerned.
Skirt is tafetta formalwear from Loehmann's. Gregg bought it for me to wear to his reunion. KM Collections by Milla Bell. Have three of hers. Usually get them for about $60 each, discounted at Loehmann's. Wear them as everyday wear.
The coolest thing is, I get evening dresses for $20 or $30, usually, on sale, in the off season. I wore an emerald green taffeta dress with a bit of a train to write in and then to shop at Trader Joe's. I love feeling like I'm on my way to the ball, even if I'm only on my way to more cottage cheese and paper toweling. (TJ's has particularly wonderful 4 percent milkfat cottage cheese. The low-carber's version of ice cream.)

I was actually looking at the diet books on our way out to see what idiocy they're promoting (anybody who promotes eating high-carb lowfat diets is not giving scientific evidence-based advice). Working on a question this week for a girl who gained 40 lbs. in two years with her boyfriend.

Only about one woman in a hundred can pull it off. (The style, I mean, not the hat. Any woman can do that.)

Oh Amy! You are wasted in our era! You should have been in the Belle Epoque!
NicoleK at February 6, 2010 10:11 AM
Amy, you totally rock that outfit! Now that I'm able to wear my smart-looking long wool coats again, maybe now is the time to heed my late fashionista mom's frequent advice to me to find a stunning hat to go with it! :-)
DorianTB at February 6, 2010 10:27 AM
Anyone remmeber that picture of Bernie Taupin's girlfriend? The hat made her seem exotic. Years later I looked at it and she was actually kinda plain. It was one of the first EJ albums, I 'll find it later.

Hey, Ms. A - Did you enhance yr stylin wardrobe by that Eighth St boutique while you were Big Apping it?

You look great, Amy!!Speaking of the diet book aisle, I'll be picking up the book you always recommend after gaining about 50 pounds from being on steroids. In the past I maintained a great weight that way, but blew it all to hell since being on steroids.
Kristen at February 6, 2010 12:59 PM
Sorry to hear that about the steroids. Just sucks.

You look flawless, as always. I covet that skirt so badly. Was just in LA for the first time visiting my sister, and of course had to go to the Grove. That Apple store has more aggressive 'geniuses' than I've seen anywhere. And there are so many of them - at least a 3 to 1 ratio of employees to customers! But I enjoyed the fresh squeezed watermelon juice at the Mexican stand.
