Muslims Threaten To Kill South Park Creators
Make fun of Judaism or Christianity and Jews and Christians will be...annoyed...maybe even angry. (Remember "Piss Christ?" Christians got pretty pissed off about it, but nobody murdered the artist or blew up any museums.)
If, on the other hand, you make a joke or show a cartoon about Islam (or show Mohammed in a bear suit, as South Park did), you're rather likely to be murdered or spend the rest of your life in hiding.
Here's a fantastic CNN report that actually gets into the realities of Islam and what a mismatch it is in our free, democratic society:
These scumbags at RevolutionMuslim.com (from Google cache, since site is down) published where the South Park creators live and work, and put up a post subtly encouraging Muslims to murder them like they murdered Theo Van Gogh.
There's even a picture on their site of poor dead Van Gogh lying on the ground with the knife the Muslim who murdered him for Allah left sticking out of this chest. The caption with the photo:
"Theo Van Gogh - Have Matt Stone And Trey Parker Forgotten This?"
Another post reads:
We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.
Sick, primitive fuckers.
A comment from "Em" on Entertainment Weekly about the episode:
Bob, as a newcomer, you probably don't know that Southpark is not respectful of ANY religion, or at least, it shouldn't be. Priests walk around with little boys on leashes, Jesus has done some bad things to a US flag and then Pres. Bush, killed people, etc. The theme song for the Joesph Smith episode was 'Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.' Budda was sniffing coke last night for peeps sake! That's the whole point of the episode, the creators are showing the INCREDIBLE hypocracy surrounding islam/mohammed in a culture built around free speech/free expression. However, that's limited now due to 'fear' that 'something' might happen. Overall, incredible episode... I was rolling on the floor with the line 'Release the Kiken!'
"We're commanded to terrorize the disbelievers," the RevolutionMuslim.com scumbag says about Muslims, right out of the Quran...as I've said again and again.
When will people realize Islam isn't like other religions, but is a totalitarian system masquerading as a religion? The Quran commands Muslims to convert or kill the infidel, and install The New Caliphate around the globe.
Yoohoo...did I wake any of you?
Please post this cartoon everywhere, per Ayaan Hirsi Ali's suggestion.
Speaking of threatening Islamic figures... Did anyone notice the freaky soldiers in masks at Ahmadinejad's parade the other day?
I don't suppose anyone else in the world, certainly not in the modern west, would be more frightened by soliders in hoods than we might be anyway. But what would that mean to his own people? What would it mean to the soldiers themselves? Presumably the message is "Trust no one, because if you cross the line, we'll fuck you up."
There's a famous L.A. restaurant critic called Merrill Schindler. About twenty years ago he wrote a column describing a visit to Mexico. He happened to take in a movie at a town cinema, and adventure fantasy in which a hero was compelled to wear a mask as he brought typical movie-violence solutions to the corrupt characters in the plot. After a couple hours of this, Schindler leaned over to a moviegoer in a nearby seat and asked "Why does he have to wear a mask?"
"He must", the moviegoer replied.
It's not just a Middle Eastern thing, but it's certainly a problem with Islam: It appeals to the seven-year-old boy in masculine nature. That's a zone of developmental risk, and it's a stage which modern western culture handles very well: We haul our kids through there briskly, and before they can stuck, we've shown them better opportunities for adult competition and achievement. And sex. And cars (independent transportation!) and fuzztone guitar (noise for fun!) and all the rest. And sex.
Back on topic– Props to Stone and Parker. I've never actually sat and watched their show, but few teams in show business (certainly not the Simpsons people and certainly not the Saturday Night Live crew) have been as steadfast in their insistence that no one (no one!) be permitted to demand preciousness and sanctitude from strangers.
I'm glad they're still out there making good TV money.

I saw the episode -- it was hilarious. (Volokh.com has a link to it.)
Islam is a death cult, and the Koran gives away nothing to Mein Kampf when it comes to sheer evil.

Seriously were I in charge of the country I'd have a plane load of pigs dropped on the kabba

Several years ago I swore an oath to defend the Consitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The notion of, "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it," I don't intend the death that takes place be my own. I enjoy the show South Park and if anything happens to Matt & Trey I will cheerfully boil the perpetrators in motor oil.
Oldie but goodies: I don't get it, they like blowing themselves up, and we like blowing them up...why can't we get along better?
So you're saying that making cartoons of Mohammad offends them and that they will riot and hurt/kill eachother over it? Let's make more.

I literally logged on here this morning to send you this article Amy and you totally beat me to the punch.
Listen up Mohammed, the reason I enjoy South Park is because they cleverly insult everyone in every way possible. They are equal opportunity offenders. They are not just picking on Muslims, they pick on EVERYONE. Even us Christians. And they can, because in Amercia, we have the right to free speech. Is it totally tasteless and crass? Yep. But they still have the right to do it. If your little Kill book (aka Quran) doesn't like it, stick a lit piece of slow burning dynamite up your ass and bury yourself up to your shoulders in concrete so you can blow yourself up in protest. You guys seem to like doing that anyway so it's a win win for everyone. Including Trey and Matt who will have more material to work with when you do.
Sabrina at April 22, 2010 4:53 AM
Good for Matt and Trey. They've been trying to do this for some time and finally found a way.
While people are in a South Park mood: The episode about 9/11 conspiracy theories is also well worth watching.
marion at April 22, 2010 5:11 AM
Scrotie McBugerballs was pretty funny too...
And the episode with Tom Cruise locking himself in the closet.
Sabrina at April 22, 2010 5:17 AM
I too, am a big South Park fan. ANything happens to Trey and Matt, well, I've got a gun, and I'm NOT afraid to use it on useless Muslims bastids.
Just sayin'.
I don't think those idiots know what a can of worms they will open up if they even try to make good on their so-called warning.
Flynne at April 22, 2010 5:19 AM
Ha Sabrina, the Tom Cruise ep is a good point
"Tom Cruise is in the closet and he won't come out!"
I still fall off my chair watching that bit.
If they're willing to risk the wrath of Cruise's legal team ("sue me! go on, sue me!" from the ending) and the world of hurt that Scientology have brought down on people in the past, I doubt that a few inept Muslim extremists are going to bother them.
Ltw at April 22, 2010 5:27 AM
This may sound odd, but I am glad this happened.
I'm glad this happened, because in America we are unlikely to react by crying "Mea Culpa!" and apologizing and insisting that the network pull the show and ban the cartoon.
We have a much smaller muslim population, so we have less to fear, and we have a government that takes these threats very seriously. We are unlikely to react the way the Dutch did.
NicoleK at April 22, 2010 6:13 AM
Southpark is quite crude in both the language and quality of the graphics and I love it. Fuck the Muslims.

Once you accede to political correctness, you leave yourself open to these sorts of attacks.
MarkD at April 22, 2010 6:38 AM
Let me summarize the situation as some Muslims see it:
The Being which created our universe, and all other universes, is (1) so offended by the actions of two TV producers on this one planet among His untold quintillions times quintillions, that (2) he needs His Glory protected by these murderous believers.
And how do we know this to be accurate? Why, the imams told us so, based on a book they read.
Any other readers convinced by this? I'm not.
Spartee at April 22, 2010 6:44 AM
Oh, and am I the only one who thinks all this rage and violence arises because Muslim cultures are obsessed with not allowing young people to have sex?
Whenever I see old people trying to control the sex drive of young people for some purpose or another, I expect to see a fucked up culture, where the young men end up killing people.
Spartee at April 22, 2010 6:51 AM
Spartee, your thoughts on Allah mirror mine: Allah isn't much of a deity if a smartass cartoon show can do irreparable harm to him.
Cousin Dave at April 22, 2010 7:06 AM
"Allah isn't much of a deity if a smartass cartoon show can do irreparable harm to him."
Amen to that.
If he was so offended I would imagine he would find some way to smite the offenders...yet, Trey and Matt still stand uharmed and as offensive as ever.
Sabrina at April 22, 2010 7:47 AM
Oh South Park, how you tremendously offend me on many occasions. And how you have me howling laughter on so many, many more. I love that they are equal opportunity offenders with no sacred cows. I'd say 85% of the episodes are hysterical, 10% have me shaking my head and saying "That's not right" (possibly with a chuckle), and 5% honestly truly offend me. (The most upsetting episode is actually Scott Tenorman Must Die)
I do worry about Matt and Trey sometimes. Between Muslims and Scientologists they've pissed off a lot of people with a track record of doing vengeful shit.
In honor of South Park and Freedom of Speech I would like to quote Eric Cartman, "Fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck."
Elle at April 22, 2010 7:55 AM
Nicole - it's not the government that the muslims should be wary of if they start getting uppity.
They would do well to pay heed to what we did to Japan.
I'd also remind them that unlike most of the other countries where they pull their stupid shit (Denmark, England) - we're armed. Heavily.
Show up at our houses to slit our throats, and you're likely to find yourself on the wrong end of a Mossberg or a Colt.
brian at April 22, 2010 8:05 AM
Some Americans are perfectly capable of groveling & trembling in fear at the feet of offended Muslims. Case in point: Last year, Yale University Press published "The Cartoons That Shook The World", a book about those infamous cartoons that did not actually show a single cartoon! Actually, they went one step further - they forbade the author from showing any images of Muhammed whatsoever, even thousand-year old paintings:
http://faustasblog.com/?p=14742
I think the South Park guys are made of sterner stuff, so I'll wait & see if they show Muhammed fucking a pig in the next episode.

Red: The notion of, "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it,"
When it comes to fighting The Gang, that phrase needs to be reworded thusly: "You may not agree with what I say, but I will defend to your death my right to say it."
mpetrie98 at April 22, 2010 9:06 AM
@Spartee: As I understand it, polygyny is perfectly acceptable in Arab cultures, meaning there's going to be a bunch of young men NOT having sex, unless it's with each other, or with goats and camels, because most of the women are taken.
And I have heard tell on this forum that these frustrated young men tend to get violent and abusive. Ergo, suicide bombers and riots.

While I agree, the west is pretty much the opposite anymore. Libertine culture but with safety nets for some, "responsibility" for others, often at the point of a gun by the state.
The irony of the southpark episode is that, they did indeed draw Muhammed several seasons ago (IIRC the david blane episode from season 4 or so) as part of the "super best friends" a rip on the 80s cartoon. No one said anything. Then they had the family guy episode that was a direct commentary on the Dutch cartoons and comedy central wimped out on showing zee "prophet".
Last night's episode wasn't as good as part one but it was hilarious to see Tom Cruise be "censored". Both were a great treat to fans with all the references to old shows.
Sio at April 22, 2010 10:58 AM
Bah, I wondered if they'd meant all the bleeps intentionally at the end of the show but apparently Comedy Central did indeed censor some of last nights show:
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/22/south-park-episode-is-altered-after-muslim-groups-warning/?src=mv
"In a message posted on their Web site, SouthParkStudios.com, they wrote that they could not immediately stream the new episode on the site because:
“After we delivered the show, and prior to broadcast, Comedy Central placed numerous additional audio bleeps throughout the episode. We do not have network approval to stream our original version of the show.”
On Thursday morning, a spokesman for Comedy Central confirmed that the network had added more bleeps to the episode than were in the cut delivered by South Park Studios, and that it was not giving permission for the episode to run on the studio’s Web site."
Sio at April 22, 2010 11:04 AM

Echoing some of the posts above: I've wondered this about other religions, but particularly about Islam - "If your deity is so all-powerful, why does he need you to do his dirty work?" I think someone else alluded in a post here long ago to the Star trek movie where they meet the Face of God, and he asks them to bring their starship closer. Capt. Kirk asks: "What does god need with a starship?"

BTW- when I mentioned "strangled", it is because even though the sentence for homosexuality is hanging, in most of the Muslim societies they tie a rope around the condemned's neck, and lift them up by it. It takes a lot longer and is much more painful for the victim to die. At least Saudi Arabia just lops off their head...

Offical response by the Southpark guys:
"In the 14 years we’ve been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn’t stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn’t some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle’s customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we’ll see what happens to it."

Mr. Teflon at April 22, 2010 8:34 PM
if anything happens to Trey and Matt
Nothing will happen to them. Some nobody on the show shuffling paper will get killed. Look at Rushdie, he is fine, but several translators were murdered.
If someone did get killed if CC aired it, what would happen? Would our government condemn it? Or would Obama talk about how we need to not insult religion (like he did Oct. 1 at the UN) and stop being mean and then they'd stop wanting to kill us?
And then the families will sue CC because they would be an easy target and have deep pockets.
Our whole society is creating cowardice, because a large portion of this country would rather blame the victim, including our leaders.

The streets in those neighborhoods are officially closed on the Sabbath; anyone driving there is crossing a police line. Not that this justifies throwing rocks at them, but I spent a year in Jerusalem, and I never saw anyone throw rocks at the occasional car that drove through. They would yell something maybe. You get the rock throwing when there's an organized demonstration about something, and the fringe crazies get worked up. I denounce them.
