Is Pubic Hair Passé?
For women under 30? For women under 40? Has anybody seen a woman with a full bush in the past 10 years (who isn't 55)?
And then, not to leave the other side out: Are straight guys out there shaving or...horrors!...getting the boyzilian?
What's your experience/opinion on the latest in hair down there?

I've been spray-tanning people for about 4 years now, and was shocked to see recently -- for the first time in all that time -- not one but two women under the age of 30 with "landing strips." I don't doubt that some gals don't shave/ wax but they didn't let me know... up til about 3 weeks ago! So for all I know Amy, pubic hair is making a comeback!
Personally, for myself & my partner, I prefer a clean machine. (We're both pushing 40)

I'm 27 and as far as I know from my peers (male and female) women in my generation generally keep bare. One exception seems that a lot of black girls don't-I've heard this from my black girlfriends, my boyfriend, and nurse friends. Maybe it's just in FL, who knows?
While most guys I know say they prefer a bald kitty, it is not requirement and they would never turn down sex just because a woman had a bush.
The guys I have been with (current bf included), usually trimmed, if they didn't shave. I think it is a generational thing. Maybe the ubiquity of porn?
LL at May 22, 2010 9:44 AM
I'm nearly 50, and I've always preferred a full bush. Thankfully, my wife accommodates me; she's 43. When I reached puberty in the 70's most women still had pubic hair, and that's what I became accustomed to.
roadgeek at May 22, 2010 9:53 AM
My husband likes my pubic hair— all of it.
It's red— that might have some of the w00t impact is used to.
I trim a bit, but I'm not gonna shave what I can't see.

I wasn't aware that "going bald" was what was in style.
No pubic hair is a bit ikky to me. I am not 12 anymore!
I'll keep my neat landing strip thank you very much!
Coletta at May 22, 2010 10:08 AM
heh, a qustion that reminds me that it's been way too long since I've investigated...
OTOH why would you want to look like someone who hasn't reached puberty?
SwissArmyD at May 22, 2010 10:10 AM
I am in the way over 55 group, and faithful to my wife so I don't see much. I think it would gross me out to have a sex partner who was bare there. It would be right in there with a woman who had a padded bra. Blechhh!!!
Why do so many people think they have to change what they are? If someone doesn't like what you are - with the exception of fat which is a choice - they aren't for you.
irlandes at May 22, 2010 10:21 AM
I'm in Philadelphia.
I think a lot of people do get the "pre-pubescent" vibe from hairlessness, but IMO its cleaner & feels more comfortable. The tickle of hair on my thighs as I walk is uncomfortable.
I wonder if there is a pubes/ pubeless, granny/ thong correlation?! Social scientists should be studying this.
Someone mentioned red hair downtown: I'm wonder how the over 50 crowd might feel about the hair changing color? Would a silver fox be a turn on or off?
suzy brown at May 22, 2010 10:32 AM
uh, people who don't have pubic hair are creepy. Both men AND women. Blah blah evo psych yeah yeah yeah. But still! To me, guys that pronounce their love of a bald pussy are borderline pedos.
To quote dice clay, "I like a bush. A nice big, hairy, stinky, smelly fucking bush."

Suzy - christ, how much hair is rubbing up against your thighs? No one is talking about a hedge here.
jdizzle at May 22, 2010 10:37 AM
As far as the gentleman's preference, I believe it has a lot to do with your age, at least insofar as when you first saw porn. I'm 41, and my first exposure to naughty photos was in the seventies, when pubes ran wild in the pages of Penthouse and Playboy. Thus, I prefer some shrubbery downstairs, (although I am not a fan of the hirsute hippie chick look.)
I'm also not a fan of the landing strip/bacon strip/Hitler 'stache - the classic triangle-shaped patch, please. Think of it as a directional marker.

For redheads, never! The thought of no more burning bushes is too terrible to contemplate.
Martin at May 22, 2010 10:46 AM
Oh lordy. I hope it's not passe.
I have to second roadgeek. The first Playmate I remember was Marilyn Cole and she was, as I recall, pretty fully natural. I'm guessing that the women I saw as I was becoming aware of sexuality were what established what was sexy to me. So I like the untrimmed look.
But it does allow me to tell my "airport" joke:
The first time I saw a landing strip, there was an emergency and I had to foam the runway.
BlogDog at May 22, 2010 10:47 AM
Interesting... discussion. heh.
I'm an artist and yes, for the most part a lot of people seem to be going for the bald thing, at least for the past 10 years or so. The thing is that I and a lot of other artists kind of prefer to see the hair down there. Without it, figure drawings and artistic nudes take on a bit of a soft porn look, skeezy look.
I've been a bit pleased to see that some of the models who come in to be drawn are starting to let things grow back in. Maybe it's because they've figure out that we prefer that. Or maybe it's come back in style. I'm not sure, I haven't asked.

I'm a straight woman. I think it's really creepy for a guy to be totally bare, but there does definitely need to be some trimming going on. A full-on bush is both uninviting and (often)smelly, once he starts sweating a bit. Plus, I don't really like picking long hairs out of my mouth.
Marina at May 22, 2010 11:54 AM
I don't believe any of you. I think you're all dirty liars. And uh, Amy, can you turn images on for this thread?
jerry at May 22, 2010 11:54 AM
I'm 37. I was raised in Massachusetts among the Irish/French-Canadian Catholic side of the family. I was taught that the only time a woman should shave her pubic hair is when she and her lover are separated temporarily (e.g., military service, work). Shaving is a symbol of her intent to remain faithful, so she remains shaven until they reunite. A shaven woman (as, not too long ago, a woman with short hair) is considered unclean (crabs, lice, etc.).
Stephanie at May 22, 2010 12:07 PM
I think David Ducovney said it best on Californication...he was asking for a women with pubic hair just so he knows she's old enough to have sex...ya gotta see it, I didn't do the scene justice.
Straight guys over 40 are going hairless and it's nice!
For me I prefer trimmed for myself and my partner.
Sallie at May 22, 2010 1:06 PM
I'm 28, white bi girl, and I prefer bare for women (wax is far better than shaving since there's no prickles to contend with) but I like guys trimmed, as all those shaved boys end up giving me razor burn. Also, unless you're man enough to wax, don't shave your chest or back, the stubble combined with sweat during sex feels sooo gross, I'd much rather be with a furry guy than a prickly one! If you use a trimmer, set it to at least half an inch, it will look natural, reduce the fur, and not scratch up your lady ;)
It's funny how things change over time. When I started shaving my bush in the mid 90's, I had a triangle, then a landing strip and kept it maybe half an inch long. But about 3 years ago I went completely bare with full brazilians, and do the upkeep myself at home with a philips epilator, the bikini size one (a quick swipe every day or 2 and I haven't had to pay for a brazilian in over a year. Totally worth it and takes no more time than shaving...plus it doesn't hurt much if there's only random hairs here and there to pluck out)
I used to be of the opinion that a bare pussy looked too childlike, so my preference for it is purely physical. There's no hair in the way, no hair in your teeth, and sex feels better with no hair, for me anyway ;)Plus, a bare pussy on a woman with hips and breasts is far from childlike...perhaps if you're into 90lb women it can look that way, but we all come in different shapes and sizes and shouldn't have to grow a full bush just because some of us are petite :)
Angie at May 22, 2010 1:33 PM
My wife decided to start close shaving at age 45, five years ago. What really made it interesting is that she lets me play barber.
Do I prefer a bare bush, yes I do. However the fact I get to participate, makes it more appealing.
Right after she started, I reciprocated, by regularly "trimming the Christmas Tree". However we both agreed that clean shaven on a man does not look good. About an eighth of an inch is the most appealing (to both of us).
Girth at May 22, 2010 1:45 PM
I am a 27 year old female. Got a boyfriend and honestly... I'm just too lazy to shave that area. On special occasions I do it, but for the most part I just trim so it's not a wild jungle down there. I think it looks better and my boyfriend (and) ex-husband never had a complaint. :)
Jewels at May 22, 2010 1:48 PM
I go back and forth, sometimes I'm fuller, sometimes I'm bare. The bare thing freaked me out a little at first because I'm a woman, not a 9 year old, but eventually it became a matter of feeling clean. I prefer a man to clean shop as well. Nothing like visiting the friends and needing floss!
Kristen at May 22, 2010 2:24 PM
I think this bald pussy craze has just gotten totally out of control! from what I can gather, the trend seemed to start with porn in the late 80's/90's, which had girls shave it off so they could get good close-ups of the action - be it oral, intercourse or the money shot.
although there has always been occasional hairless or near-hairless chicks in porn pre-dating the years stated, lazy guys like the concept of not having to go down on a girl without having to shove the forest aside to get to the tree and now pretty much everybody expects you to shave or trim. personally, I think you lose some of your individuality when you mow it completely off, but hey, that's coming from someone over 50.
btw, I used to shave it all off regularly in the 80's, but after doing it for over a decade, I was tired of the upkeep. and now, after seeing how de rigeur it is, I am proud to say the bush is back - well, mine at least!
jacquie T. at May 22, 2010 3:55 PM
I trim. When I feel it's necessary. Never had any complaints. And frankly, I think the older one gets, the weirder one would look shaved.
Then again,I suppose doing a good job of it would be one way to stay flexible. A waxing workout...hmmn.
When I was approaching puberty, a friend and I looked all through the bottom drawer of her dad's dresser, looking through his Playboy magazines. Yeah, yeah, what were they doing in the bottom drawer so close to where kids might get into them? I don't know. Everything wasn't such a big damned deal at the time.
We were looking for the pubic hair we knew we were supposed to grow. We didn't know about airbrushing, but we looked through at least thirty I guess (I really don't know, but the drawer was full) and ended up very confused!
Pricklypear at May 22, 2010 4:03 PM
I've never been with a woman who's bare but the pics I've seen of bare pubes turn me off. I think pubic hair enhances a woman's appeal.
Iconoclast at May 22, 2010 4:57 PM
from what I can gather, the trend seemed to start with porn in the late 80's/90's
The shaved porn starlet deal started with "Oh Sexy Seka" in the late 70s, who was a chick from Hobboken, or some place comepletely boring like that. She took an exotic-sounding name and with her platinum blond dye job looked exotic. Linda Lovelace also shaved for - and during - Deep Throat, which was early 70s. But Seka was the one sho seemed to start the crotch-shaving fad.

Hair's a natural lubricant--that's why it's there. And, it's a visual cue.
KateC at May 22, 2010 6:03 PM
Hmm. Cut foreskin, bad. Cut hair, good? I guess it matters if you can grow it back, but still, hair's what you were built with. Just like everything else, it'll look better on Heidi Klum than it will Roseanne, no matter what it is.
Clue: don't gain weight if you shave. Your extra chin will show up.
Radwaste at May 22, 2010 7:23 PM
Love the taste, love the smell, but unless your in the type of relationship where you can come home, relax, and take a shower before getting busy, bush can pick up a bit of a urine odor. It's not sexy and it puts a damper on oral acrobatics.
What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, and we both shave. All bald all the time. It's not a bother to keep trim in the shower if you do it every or every other time and it makes spontaneous sex less smelly.
SamG at May 23, 2010 2:34 AM
As a nurse in maternal child health I see many, many pubic areas in a nights work. I can say that most women in southern California of child bearing age shave some or most of their pubic hair. A large percent shave all. (even while pregnant!)
I'm over 50 and quit doing that several years ago. My husband and I agree that we're both geezers and really don't care any more!

Full, with the occasional trim/tidy in summer when I remember or feel like it. I'm pretty lazy about hair removal in general, and dropped everything entirely for stretches of undergrad and when I lived in europe for a year (all while long-distance from boyfriend now husband, not that he cares except for the pits.)
Luckily my leg/underarm hair is very fine and not too dark, and the bikini region confines itself naturally to the expected area with only a few stragglers to the top of the thigh.

"Hair's a natural lubricant--that's why it's there."
Yeah, what KateC said. You know that hair does serve a purpose! For the record, I'm 43 and I keep it trimmed and completely clean in the important areas. But the stuff on top really does serve a purpose. My lover shaves most of his off but that has more to do with wetsuit issues. But I have noticed that if I get a little too close with my trim and we're together sometimes the friction off to much bald on me and his almost completely bare can be a bit painful. Again, it's the hair is a natural lubricant thing.

I'm married, not quite thirty, and strawberry blonde..I go from totally bare to just a bit of hair, but never full-on, and when I do have a bit it's short. Shaving my legs and everything else is part of my daily shower routine. Having a little hair in certain spots during the summer helps prevent camel toe in a bikini. If I had dark hair, though, I'd probably go totally bald. Husband doesn't like a lot of pubic hair on either of us; he trims his own every week or so.

I prefer bare. Had mine lazered off, and I know my fiance likes it that way. On the nude beach in Jamaica, only women over 50 have bush, so I think it's definitely a generational thing now.
My guy keeps his trimmed. The other night, he used Nair, which he'd never tried before. Unfortunately, applied it twice, and burned his balls. lol I didn't know he normally shaved them until he called me in agony. I've never asked him to do this; it's the way he likes it - or some chick before me like it - and that's fine with me. I agree that hair can pick up a certain odor which detracts from oral activities.
Plus, a bare or trimmed guy looks bigger, for what it's worth.
lovelysoul at May 24, 2010 7:58 AM
I'm 24, and I prefer to keep it as bare as possible on myself.
My hubby used to trim really short, until I told him I preferred there be a bit more there. Nothing wild, but I especially LOVE the thin trail that starts at his belly button and you just can't have that lead to a bare area.

"OTOH why would you want to look like someone who hasn't reached puberty"
I don't get this argument. You wouldn't look that way at all, you'd look like a grown, mature adult woman who happens to be shaved. All of my girlfriends in the past 5 years were smoothly shaved, and naked none of them looked 'like they hadn't reached puberty', on the contrary, they looked like sexy adult women. I have to wonder about anyone who looks at an adult woman naked and starts thinking about naked children, that is surely not normal.
"lazy guys like the concept of not having to go down on a girl without having to shove the forest aside"
Lazy? It's just all that much nicer to go down on a shaved pussy (looks, feels, smells and tastes better, and none of those pesky pubic-hair-stuck-in-teeth problems) ... you think it should be like some kind of unpleasant work for him to please you? Don't expect much oral sex with that attitude.
"Are straight guys out there shaving or...horrors!...getting the boyzilian?"
I haven't, but have been considering trying it out of curiosity, just to find out what it feels like.

I don't buy the arguments about shaving the pubic area for hygienic reasons. I think there's nothing down there that daily shower can't clean. Quite the contrary, I feel that shaving on a regular basis such a sensible area might cause irritations, infections, cuts...
But hey, that's just me, and I'm biased, since the look of a grown-up woman's naked body without pubic hair gives me the creeps...

Ladies if you're letting men dictate what's down there, you've got the wrong guy. My preference is natural, but isn't just being there the point? BTW, nearly all men are natural - any gym locker room or local nude beach will tell you that. The report from my GF from inside the local ladies health club is the younger women are more likely to be hairless than the older women, but there are plenty of exceptions in both directions.
roger at May 31, 2010 4:43 AM
I'm an aspiring artist and I attend figure drawing sessions every week. The models come in a variety of sizes, ages, races and genders. Being in the presence of an unclothed model for hours provides a lot of time for reflection. The older models are usually unshaven (though usually trimmed for neatness) while younger models (male and female) are more frequently shaved. In my opinion a natural model is nude, a shaven one is naked. I perceive a difference. But then, I'm an old geezer. If you can draw, I recommend you attend live modeling sessions. It will help demystify the unclothed body.

Shaving? No! I love my natural red-golden color. Just trimming the sides, nothing more. Also I don't like bare look as it reminds me too much of little children, probably would have hard time having sex with a bare partner. Also for hygenic reasons i wouldn't shave, as on the contrary to popular belief shaving pubic is quite unhygenic. Doctors started to shave pubic hair prioor to surgery, and guess what? More infections with bare than hairy.Yes, bush is cleaner. I'm 52 and must admit I don't see a lot of naked men or women. When I was going to the gym and using the locker room and showers, about 5 years ago, it was mostly older men, like 60's and up. Those guys weren't shaved at all. Even guys my age weren't shaving, although it was hard to tell because when guys got out of the shower they would put a towel around themself to cover up. Me, once I got out of the shower stall I would stand close by and dryoff so people could see. After drying I would then go to the locker covered up. I did get a few looks but nothing unusual. Very few young guy would even use the locker room.
I have been a smoothie down there for aroud 15 years now. It is so comfortable I really enjoy it this way. I have recently started to trim the majority of my body hair real short and started using lotion on my body. The smooth body with the short hair feels great. I wouldn't change it now even if the trend changed.

I am completely bald and it is really nice. There are many things in our days which help to keep genitalia nice: trim, shave/wax or laser, do not be too lazy girls, keep it fresh!

As a guy who is almost 70, some have told me to slow down and start acting my age. Not sure that applies here. I've either dated women who shave all or some of their pubes . . . and I asked those who didn't shave to start. I thoroughly enjoy eating a woman's pushing and tonguing her to orgasm. The first time I was shaved happened in 1970. She took off every last hair. That was to match her bald pussy that I shaved.
I understand that some men and women, mostly men, will not shave. That's fine, but don't criticize the those that shave.
So, I like being bald. I shave in the shower every few days; not as trimmed as I used to be. Mainly, I shave between my legs, testicles and any hair on my penis, plus elimination of hair at the base of my penis. Yep, I'm bare down there. My wife frequently grabs my cock and sucks me off in the morning after my shower. Yes, my bare cock arouses her, as does her bare pussy arouses me.
My wife prefers that I shave her clean. She is easily aroused by it and gets soaking wet. Since 1983, I've been shaving her and loving it and her. She trims in the shower sometimes, but the eroticism of me slowly trimming her vulva bare is still exciting for both of us.
There are comments about camel toe on women here. Actually, my lovely wife has displayed her camel toe many times, including "accidentally" uncovering one or two lips. There been a few times when men and couples walked by us a few times. She or I will stop them and strike up a conversation. Depending on whether she or I like them, an invitation to look and touch is given. This always leads to orgasms on the beach or a hotel/home bedroom, sometimes quickly.
So, to the younger folks who have discovered shaved pubes, welcome. It is not a new thing. And, razors today are wonderful, compared to just ten years ago.
Hope to see you one day. Maybe we'll share some bare pussy and cock. Who knows?
