I counted 13 and saw the gorilla briefly. But my initial thought on the gorilla was "Move dude your blockin the guys in white! I can't see the ball!" I guess that's when I missed the other two counts. ???
What does it mean though? Am I like super duper observant or just OCD?

Yeah, I counted 13 passes, too. I didn't miss the gorilla, though. I just thought, cute, guys. Thanks for the distraction.

I counted 12 but the damned gorilla was blocking the view for several seconds.
Seriously, that was one of the better experimental tests of how the human brain filters information before integrating it into an internal model of reality.
I counted 15, but totally missed the gorilla. If I'm focussed on something, I usually block out distractions. When I was in university, I would study in a lounge with rock music blasting. If I tried to study in the library, it was too quiet. I would hear every chair move or whispered convo three tables over.

The internet's weird, 'yknow? It's BIG. It's so big that nowadays each of us is having a very distinct experience of it. This is not meant to give Amy a hard time or anything, but that clip's been out there for at least six years, and It's a surprise that person with an interest pop psych hadn't seen it earlier. It's like finding someone who never heard Thriller on the radio. It's ironically true: We don't see as much as we think we do, and others don't see the same things as you assume they will. (And I COMPLETELY missed the gorilla suit at first viewing during Bush's first term. That was back before video clips would cache in your browser, and I was certain they'd swapped out the video as a practical joke.)

It would be interesting to try this video on people who are high on pot. Normally if there's a steady or repetitive noise in the background, I tune it out automatically. The one time in my life I was high, I couldn't ignore the sound of a ceiling fan, and the damn thing kept me awake all night. I wonder if it would work the same way on visual tune-outs.

I counted 13 and had the same reaction as the first person: Mr. Gorilla - move I can't count when you're in the way!
I also got frustrated b/c I swore the thing was edited and people in white were popping up where people in black were. This convinced me it was a trick and I stopped counting and wondered wtf the gorilla had to do with it.

I couldn't even keep track of how many passes there were because I thought it was a trick, since even the people in black shirts had on white shoes.. except one person all in black. There was way too much going on and I was trying to watch everyone except the all black guy.. I did see the gorilla though, but mostly because he had those big white teeth.

I saw the gorilla. But, I was an infantryman in the Army so I notice a lot of things that my friends don't.
Only counted 12 passes though. The gorilla distracted me.
Counted 14 passes but sort of lnew the gorilla or something was gonna come. So saw it. But I am certain that the gorilla in the first clip did not thump his chest.

I managed to count all 15 passes, but I totally missed the gorilla, and then I laughed when it was pointed out to me, because I had actually seen this video a while back.
I should have known better, but I was on my second strong gin & tonic too, and it's after midnight.
;-)
I enjoyed laughing all over again though.
It's a great exercise...

When I saw this on Amy's blog this morning, I thought it might be a new joke... Because other famous internet clips have been successfully parodied.
