Is this really what we want? I wonder...
First, if some one has paid their fine and/or done their time, do they not deserve a fair chance for a fresh start? How is it helpful to know that someone three blocks over was convicted of a felony?
Second, given the ever-increasing number of laws, your average innocent citizen commits three felonies per day. Many felonies are essentially meaningless. For example, I looked on the map and found that an entry near my address is someone convicted of "sodomy in the second degree"? Did I really want to know that?
This kind of service plays into the whole "be scared of your neighbor" concept that the government has pushed since 9/11. If you see something, report it. Trust no one. The Stasi is here to help you.

And sometimes, you should be.
If I were a parent, I think I'd want to know where all the kiddie diddlers are in the neighborhood. My area is rife with them.

And as far as the accidental felonies go, I do think we have too many laws, and that that's dangerous (innocent people can be hauled in on trumped up charges), but when's the last time you accidentally inserted your penis into a child?

Apparently I'm surrounded by people who can't drive, like to burn things down, and molest kids.
And this is a "nice" neighborhood.

The felon data that come up are fake. See Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/hoaxes/felonspy.asp

THIS SITE IS FRAUDGALINT!!!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.
Amy I think you're awesome but you should have checked this one out first.
If you are concerned about predicate felons in your area just check out your local prothonotaries office at the courthouse. It's all in the public record.....

Here's an example of a valid law-enforcement page. Note the button for searching for sexual offenders.

I thought it was a little odd -- but the second visit gave it away. They had six felons located on two adjoining farm fields -- 600+ acres with no houses. And I know the guy living in one house is not Han Liu.

Two of the felons living near me live in an industrial park. Another one lives in a cemetery. And two more live on the runway at the local airport.
Not sure I believe this site.

Hahah. Nice. Guess I'm going back to using the State of Colorado website then.
Daghain at January 30, 2011 8:45 AM
It says a convicted child molester lives in the cemetery that my street dead-ends into...
I think that, in general, you can get on your local law enforcement website to look up the convicted child molesters/rapists. There aren't many near me- but one of them (convicted of sexually assaulting TWO little kids)- looked like your average grandpa.
Most of the others were statutory rape convictions. I don't think they belong on a registry like that.

I put in my work address. It came up with 9 felons ... in downtown DETROIT!! Five of them apparently live in the middle of the Detroit River.
