Ground Zero Mosque: Calls For Tolerance
Me? I'm wildly intolerant of this sort of thinking, and I encourage you to join me in my intolerance. Isabel Vincent and Melissa Klein write in the New York Post of the new imam at the Ground Zero mosque/"cultural center" (a culture I hope we don't ever start to emulate):
The new imam at the Ground Zero mosque and cultural center believes people who are gay were probably abused as children and that people who leave Islam and preach a new religion should be jailed.... The organizers of the mosque sought yesterday to distance themselves from Adhami's comments and backpedal on his role in the $100 million project.
The Park51 organization announced earlier this month that he was a "senior adviser" to the effort.
But the Park51 organizers posted on Twitter that Adhami is only an "adviser" and that his views do not reflect those of the project.
Whoopsy! And of course, Islam calls for apostates to be killed. Read about it in detail here, from Ibn Warraq:
It is clear quite clear that under Islamic Law an apostate must be put to death. There is no dispute on this ruling among classical Muslim or modern scholars...

A couple of my very over-educated and sophisticated friends tried to explain to me "but the people setting up this up are Sufis, not Sunnis, it's totally different and they wouldn't have anything to do with each other!"
Then the old "I wonder if people would complain about a church being built near a bombed abortion clinic" canard came out. I tried to point out that if they can find the abortion clinic that was bombed resulting in 3000 deaths I might be on their side.

These are tribal warring people who continue to murder each other over believing in a different flavor of Allah. It's a little hard to blame da joooos when a woman in a burka blows up a bunch of hungry women in burkas with their children waiting in a UN food line.

Muslims can spin it any way they want but the truth remains: There is nothing moderate about Islam. The various factions hate each other almost as much as they hate American infidels.
Freedom of religion may give them the right to preach hate but it does not give them the right to kill Americans in the name of their god. It does not mean that we shall entertain their lack of sensitivity and allow this mosque anywhere near where followers of their religion committed mass murder.

The more I read of your blogs and comments, the more I like you. I understand that you are an atheistic Jew—I like you anyway. I hope you understand that the best friend that a Jew has in America is a southern Christian. I am a Presbyterian. My step son has a degree from a Presbyterian seminary. However, he is a Messianic Rabbi. Actually I get worn out with all these Christian and Jewish holidays running into each other.
