"Diversity" Is A Cover Word For Racism
I've long been disgusted at the "diversity" scholarships and fellowships that pop up in journalism, which give money and opportunity people based on their skin color rather than on merit and financial need.
Ilya Somin at Volokh blogs about a recent effort to establish a scholarship for white males at Texas State University. Jenée Desmond-Harris blogs at The Root:
According to the Austin American-Statesman, a "whites only" scholarship is being offered at Texas State University. The Former Majority Association for Equality -- a nonprofit group -- is offering five $1,000 scholarships exclusively to white male students (the amount doubled after the program received media coverage on Friday).
Student Colby Bohannan, the president of the group, said, "I'm not sure white males are the majority anymore," adding, "There's a scholarship out there for just about any demographic, except this one. We realize it's for good reason -- this is a touchy subject."
From the group's website:
Our goal: To financially assist young Americans seeking higher education who lack opportunities in similar organizations that are based upon race or gender. In a country that proclaims equality for all, we provide monetary aid to those that have found the scholarship application process difficult because they do not fit into certain categories or any ethnic group....One obstacle that we immediately anticipate is to not appear racist or racially motivated. We do not advocate white supremacy, nor do we enable any individual that does. We do not accept donations from organizations affiliated with any sort of white supremacy or hate group. We have no hidden agenda to promote racial bigotry or segregation. FMAE's existence is dedicated around one simple principle, to provide monetary aid for education to white males who need it.
At Volokh, Former Army MP says:
Racial decision making is racial discrimation.I try to explain this to my students without getting fired. It is hard.
University X has 7,000 open slots for freshpersons. They know, based on prior years, that admitting 14,000 will result in about the correct number showing up (overly simply stated, due to rolling and early decisions allowing admission notices tweaking).
If they desire to quota admit 13% legal critical mass black and hispanic, then they apply their tests to see who has earned an admission spot.
If they get to the end of the 12,000 and they only have 6% black and hispanic-they knock off the bottom 6% of whites and asians who earned an admission, and promote onto the list those who had not earned it.
It is as somple as that. Taking away something a person earned, and giving it to another person on account of their skin color.
If you want to play the racist game, and the Supreme Court decided they like inciting racial discrimination and racial hatred, then that means you should play it all across the board.
John Rosenberg of Discriminations.us blogs:
...The justice of "compensatory justice" ... so often results in rewarding individuals who have not been victims of discrimination at the expense of individuals who have discriminated against no one but who are taxed to pay for the historical sins of their racial "group."Racial discrimination is an ugly business, and it doesn't become prettier by dressing it up as either "diversity" or "compensatory justice."
If there is no diversity they will be no racial discrimination. That is why diversity is bad.

Diversity is an obstacle to be overcome, not a goal to be achieved.
Want examples? Blacks are over-represented in the NFL, at about 70%, and in the NBA; Hispanics appear above their demographic in Major League Baseball. These people have their jobs because they perfrom, and can show it. Clearly, when performance criteria are insisted upon and documentation is not ignored, some groups have an advantage.
Further, as can be seen in the management of some mahor cities, such as Atlanta, when major concessions are made to promote "diversity" and these result in majority-black local government, actual performance becomes a problem.
The public ignores the plain examples of professional sports. They just want to do what they want, not pay attention. They actively resist any indication that they should pay attention.
I admire the level of hypocrisy which accompanies the outcry whenever Dr. King's "content of their character" line is delivered today. Pure and simple, the incompetent want to keep their cherry job with no accountability, and play the race card freely to keep it. Incredibly, others let them get away with it.

Diversity is an ugly business(and should not be encouraged under whatever circumstances) and had been misused by certain whites and nonwhites for their own selfish fun and games.
Diversity is just another weakness for certain weak ethnics or certain race or certain groups to push their scams. incompetence and irresponsibility onto the world that is already afflicted with too much diversity related problems.
People should take a honest look at the ills of diversity before creating more diversity related problems.

I was going to post that in your next "free swim" thread... I really like the technique of turning PC tropes back in on the lefties.

This is also why I argue against "Reparations for Slavery." It will simply be taking by force from people who have never been slave owners and giving it to people who have never been slaves, based solely the color of skin.
If it wasn't so dangerous, all these noble sounding covers would be amusing. "Reparations for slavery," "best interest of the child," "Women, Infants, Children," etc., are all noble sounding covers from forcibly transferring money to left-wing constituents.

I don't think I have ever been more incensed then when that came up. Being essentially punished and taxed for being white?! What pissed me off even more was that businesses like JP Morgan Chase and Wachovia actually APOLOGIZED for thier companies part if slavery... 200 years ago!!
What the hell do *I* have to be sorry for? Even if my ancestors owned slaves, what does that have to do with me today? Besides, *my* ancestors never owned slaves. Most of mine were Irish Immigrants working (and dying) on the railroads during the Industrial years. My English ancestors were farmers that fought and died, for the Union Army. If we are gonna use something that happened 200 years ago to judge people today, then where's my fuckin purple heart and free fare on AmTrack? Oh, and I also want Casino rights because I am part Cherokee as well.
"Diversity" is a farce. It is just another way that the lefty's and the NAACP can play the race card to get ahead. It's disturbing that our "white guilt" has allowed it to go on for so long. I'll conceded that maybe "diversity" was needed in the early part of the 20th century when segregation was still in effect, but it's no longer the case. It's been 54 years since "Separate but Equal" was overturned. It's time for people to stop using thier race as an excuse. In fact, it's time for race to stop being a factor at all.
Sabrina at March 3, 2011 6:06 AM
Damn. Sorry. I can type...and spell... honest.
Sabrina at March 3, 2011 6:08 AM
We know Sabrina, but sometimes when we get fired up about something, and we're typing away, we misspell sometimes. It's understood, and we all know what you mean.
And I'm right in the same camp as you. My great-great grandad drove a trolley in New York, got gangrene in both feet because it was so damn cold and there were no heaters on the damn things back in the day. They had to amputate. Many of my great uncles served overseas during WWII, and my dad served during the Korean conflict. Couple of uncles got killed in Nam, and one came back with his arms full of holes, and they weren't bullet holes. But I digress.
In fact, it's time for race to stop being a factor at all.
This. This is the thing. But, as long as people use this as a tool for extracting privileges and justifying an over-inflated sense of entitlement, it will continue to be a factor. If only there was a way to attach some kind of social stigma to that!

I was wondering how long it would take for this story to end up here...
I went to Texas State.
It's a party school, but it's not liberal. At least, it wasn't when I was there. It's mostly middle-class white kids. So it doesn't suprise me all that much that someone there came up with this scholarship. The admissions staff might care about diversity, but the student body doesn't.
I like that FMAE was established. I don't know how controversial it is on campus- I live in Austin, it's been in the paper since last week, and no one has even mentioned it in coversation around me yet.
I will point out, though, that there are certain scholarships that are for specific white-ethnic backgrounds... A white guy can get a scholarship if he's German, or Czech, or Polish from those group's heritage societies. But, I guess this is the only scholarship I've heard of that's specifically for white men.
ahw at March 3, 2011 7:37 AM
BTW, I think I read that the person being awarded the scholarship only has to be 25% caucasion...

I once took an art class from a professor who moved up here to Seattle from Atlanta and was sighing about the "lack of diversity" here.
I was floored--the Arts center she taught at was in one of the "Urban" areas (we don't have ghettos here--poor areas, yes, but not ghettos), and besides, we are about 20% Asian (including East Indian and Middle Eastern), we've got a good whack of Mexicans, and about 3% blacks, many of whom are actually from Africa.
So, nearly 30% non-white, plus we are GLBT, Alt music and lifestyle and Artist friendly. And that's not diverse? What the hell does she want?
Took me a while to figure out that to her diverse means "black." I'd never heard it used that way before since we've always had the Epcot Center thing going here in Seattle.
She was also very confused when I told her that displaying the Confederate Flag in the North is something only white supremacists do.
MissFancy at March 3, 2011 8:04 AM
Here in Montana I have to crack up when someone touts our "diversity" when we have so very little of it. Even the Indians are not much of a presence in the towns, prefering to stay on the reservation.
I think maybe "diversity" here means GLBT and foreign teaching assistants. It's not diversity but the lack thereof that seems to delight even the most liberal of transplants.

I'll be more than happy to pay reperations, right after the governments of Africa for their ancestors part in selling themselves to slave traders in the first place, and after the cathoic church for using it political power to turn slaverly into a racial issue, and finally after the american muslim orginizations for providing finacial support to countries still involved in the african slave trade centuries after we abolished it.
Get them to pony up some cash and then you can ask me for some

ahw at March 3, 2011 1:39 PM
I can't wait for some nitwit at work to tie a noose, which, all by itself, is a firing offense.
Because I'll show up and loudly point out how my ancestors were hung by the hundred.
By the British.
In Ireland.
Radwaste at March 3, 2011 2:38 PM
I think diversity would not be such a big problem in the world, if only US and other West had the sense to stop providing aide to asian countries.
Once those people knows they that have to pay up up for their irresponsible diversity actions, or those poor people knows that they would never get rich breeding diversity, perhaps, they would stop their diversity nonsense.
WLIL at March 3, 2011 3:24 PM
I don't think there is anything wrong with this scholarship idea. The day that they condemn the United Negro College Fund as racist the can do the same to this idea as well.
BTW, IIRC, Texas has a policy that the top 5% of high school students has an automatic admission to any state college they want to attend.
