Airport Security With A Brain
Via the FT, British Airways chairman Sir Martin Broughton has a hard time abiding the ridiculousness of UK to US-bound flight "security":
Calling for "a risk-based approach to security rather than a one-size-fits-all based approach", in a speech to the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in London, Sir Martin asked: "Is it sensible to run exactly the same security checks on pilots - each and every time they fly - as, for example, a Yemeni student?"...Some would describe this as profiling, "which some people regard as a pejorative term" with "discriminatory overtones", but such concerns were misplaced. "Making everybody suffer inconvenience in the name of uniformity doesn't make any sense at all and reduces the quality of security by dissipating resources."
I'd actually like two different paths for security -- one for people like me who are willing to take the highly unlikely risk of being blown up, and the other for people who'd much rather take a risk with their rights and freedoms.
I'm with you, Amy. But too many Americans are sheep and don't deserve the term "citizen."

In the line where I'm keeping my rights, am I also keeping my right to carry my firearm?
That would icing on the cake.

I'd be in your line, Amy. I'm terrified of flying, have been all of my life. I'm only on a plane if I *really* want to go somewhere, and then it takes me a lot of internal pep-talking to get me there.
I'm also a huge fan of Robert Heinlein, and I've always thought his ideas in "Starship Troopers", where you had to earn your Citizenship thru military service were very appealing.
Actually, a lot of my beliefs have been shaped by Heinlein, I still, to this day, remember the ..But I digress.
Yes. Wolves on the Right, sheep on the Left. I like it.

And once we screen those willing to give up their rights for saftey I'd suggest we relocate all of them to oklahoma and wall it off. Make them work in labor camps, perfectly safe and away from the rest of society.

@Kat:
In half a dozen recent scifi novels Tom Kratman has been exploring vet-only franchise in the spirit of Starship Troopers, but in much more detail. Latest, iirc, is "Amazon Legion". I've enjoyed them all.

You know, I'm not supprised the movie turned out so, I dont want to say 'horribly' because it was a good enough film for what the director was shooting for.
But as far as being based off the book, well it was never going to work anyway as 80% of it was exposition from Rico's veiwpoint and the other 20% was first person narration, hard enough to right a book that way let alone make a movie, throw on top of that it was a complete 180 degree turn from the books proposed ethics and philosophy it was a disaster before it started

I'm in the line to keep my rights, and the sweet tea I brought from home to avoid paying $4.00 for a dollar soda in the "sterile area"
End this TSA bull.... now.
